Bungie said it is….we know better tho.

Destiny 2 advertises itself as MMO tho. From Steam store-page;
Destiny 2 is an action MMO with a single evolving world that you and your friends can join anytime, anywhere, absolutely free.
I don’t understand why people think that MMO’s need to have like 50+ people on your screen at one time. That’s not what makes a game an MMO. MMO stand for Massively Multiplayer Online Game. Destiny 2 is a online multiplayer game that can be played by a very large number of players simultaneously. That’s what makes games an MMO not oh you need to see 100+ players on your screen at all times.

Correct
-
It is, it's not an MMORPG there is a difference.
-
Bungie themselves have called it an MMORPG
-
Well they are flat out wrong and don't know what an MMORPG is. We have no need for tanks, healer, and pretty much everyone is a dps. We have way too many restrictions to be one , someone earlier pointed out the limitations of fireteams which I agree but that's not what make it not an MMO but it is clearly not a MMORPG and is a terrible lootshooter compared to something like borderlands.
-
The trinity doesn’t define an MMORPG - Black Desert for example has no Trinity along with other MMORPGs
-
I never said it does but no matter what MMORPG you play it will have it, ESO is a perfect example of the trinity being present but buildcraft and freedom can negate that. You still have tanks and healers in that game and roles , people just choose not to play that way. You can't say the trinity don't define an MMORPG when that's what makes an MMO an MMORPG in the first place. The role playing part. You can complete raids without a titan or warlock all hunters can work just like all warlocks can. It's so much stuff this game don't have that true MMORPGs all have.
-
I disagree a fireteam of 3 or 6 is hardly massive
-
(MMO- an online video game which can be played by a very large number of people simultaneously. )All MMORPGS are MMOs but not all MMOs are MMORPG.
-
6 is hardly massive it’s just a multiplayer shooter … that’s it
-
That's not what makes it an MMO. 300k players is what makes it that. Yall do not know the definition of MMO and keep confusing it with MMORPG or worse you own definition like fireteams which has nothing to do with anything. Destiny unnecessary caps groups but the fireteam bug showed what the game can and could have been.
-
You’re using a very dated definition of MMORPG. The term has been largely expanded since the early 2000s definition you’re referencing. Also I’m unsure why you’re conflating a requirement of The Holy Trinity for the definition of an MMO(RPG). The Holy Trinity is not a requirement and is absent from most Korean and Japanese MMORPGs.
-
Definitions don't become dated. Asian mmorpgs are often action MMORPG like black desert and a few. I never said the holy trinity was a requirement, of you're going to read my responses and use them don't assume. There are many things that make an MMORPG yall are making up your own Definition and even go as far as saying it's dated like the meaning changed because a few games went rogue.

Where did I say the holy trinity was a requirement? Did I not say there are MANY things that make an MMORPG that game does not simply have?

That does not say requirement. That defines and I still stand on that point since you wanna go there. How can you be a role playing game with no semblance of roles?????. Dps is a role so is tank and healer. You're playing a ROLE. Destiny don't have that and it isn't even a need and that's a problem. Yes games like black desert go rogue but they still have classes for specific roles Destiny does not.

Editado por Mara Sov’s Step Bro: 2/18/2023 10:07:30 AMOh and FYI the role in roleplaying means you assume the role of person or character. Who is our character? The guardian - that’s who we’re roleplaying as. Nothing to do with class combat roles. That can be a part of roleplaying - but not a requirement. You can roleplay a pacifist with no class combat role. Someone didn’t play Dungeons and Dragons methinks.

You're being disingenuous you know damn well what you are queuing as. You're not this dumb dude You're playing dumb.

Editado por Mara Sov’s Step Bro: 2/18/2023 12:02:44 PMI’ll tell you what you’re choosing. You’re choosing to enter the role of a Botanist or Herbalist. You’re choosing one of a number of pre-requisite roles for engaging in the games content. None of which are a staple requirement of the genre to be defined as such. Does Botany and Herbalism define an MMORPG now since it’s one of many pre-requisite roles one can choose to engage with certain content in certain games? I find it really entertaining that you’re conveniently forgetting lifestyle roles exist since it doesn’t fit with your idea that a Trinity, nevermind combat roles is what defines an MMORPG.
