Comp makes you a better player, for sure. I'm pretty average, 1.38 KD. I have no issues with having to master skills and meta to grind things out. I take issue with an environment littered with paid carries and account recoveries, particularly at lower levels. They're not fostering an environment that promotes skill based play; they've created an atmosphere where people feel like they have to pay or cheat to win, which is zero fun for honest players who want to "get good". Fix comp scoring to be less punitive, and people won't resort to cheating or paying. Simple fix
