How can a majority of the US have the shortest end of the stick?
The world runs on connections. If you know somebody, that's already a leg up vs. someone who is actively trying to push people away that are making them uncomfortable. I'll use this forum's political population as an example since the title is describing the majority of the Offtopic:
Considering that this forum is generally conservative when it comes to politics, it's not surprising that people on this forum are playing the victim complex and are complaining about the world being mean to them, or whatever. Many conservatives on this forum tend to give each other praise and gang up on someone who isn't a conservative, often to just attack them as a person and rarely their points.
Many conservatives on this forum are close-minded and aren't willing to open up to the possibility that not everyone on this forum or in the world is conservative. The ones that I have met who don't fit this description are far and few on this forum, with at most that I can count right off the bat being around 4 people. These people also don't seem to be complaining that they're receiving the short end of the stick, so they must be doing something right.
It's probably because they're willing to connect with other people who don't share their political views.
As for real life, if it's a job, it's probably because the other person has more desirable traits that the white person doesn't have, such as speaking a second language or more languages, for example. If I was a business owner, I wouldn't use skin color as a major determining factor. Other than the base qualifications, I'd see if they have a volunteering history, if they can speak multiple languages, are empathetic, and generally a pleasant person to be around. Seeing less than 30% of the US can even speak a second language, it's not surprising. To bring it back to this forum, I remember there was a poll back in 2015 that indicated that not even 10% of this forum spoke a language other than English. A majority of people on this forum only spoke English, which is great, but it doesn't look that great compared to someone who can speak a second language, a third language, or more.
Advice for people on this forum who want to look better on a resume: Get volunteering experience, get awards, be involved in the community where you're applying to, learn another communicable language, be a tolerable person to be around, do something that stands out compared to other people also going for your job.

exactly

I’m sorry, but using a forum of shitposters as ‘evidence’ for your counter argument is just dumb.
-
Would you rather me use incel.me? Either way, both communities mirror each other in very many ways.
-
How about you don’t use any online shitposting forum?

Then the OP's question wouldn't need to be answered by anyone on this forum, because not too many people outside of internet groups like this actually think like this. I legit haven't met a single person outside of the internet who thinks that they're being oppressed or that they're getting the short end of the stick just because they're white, conservative, heterosexual, and male, and I live in a town that's over 70% white. It seems that the "I'm being oppressed" white male crowd seems to only fester in online forums like this one, or incel.me. If people on this forum feel like they aren't getting ahead in life, they should put some of that wasted energy they've put into complaining on this forum and shift it over to doing something that will make their lives better.

There is 0 reason to speak another language. People should just convert to English. The only “languages” people should learn are computer ones.

You don’t speak computer languages. And computer languages are essential to our way of life. Not to mention the best part, all of them are in ENGLISH. LOL NICE BLUNDER

Editado por Section Ratio General: 5/7/2018 3:39:55 PM
And computer languages are essential to our way of life.
I don't need to know Java, C++, or Python to speak with any of my friends or family, any of my coworkers, or in general, anyone who isn't a computer science worker. We can get by fine by speaking languages we know. Also, fyi for you: English isn't the most spoken language anymore; it's now Chinese. You should learn the dominant language of the world. Besides, it doesn't take much effort to learn Spanish if you already know English. It honestly only took me about 3 days to learn the base foundations of Spanish, and about 2 months to speak it in a communicable way towards others. Spanish is easy if someone already knows a language derived from Latin, such as English. I'm not the fastest learner by any means either. Since people on this forum love to say that they are so smart and intelligent, they should be able to learn a second language faster than me.

So there is a reason to learn those languages in other words. But it’s too bad those 1.2 billion Chinese speaking people all live in China. Chinese is in no way dominant in this world lol.

Why should I waste my time on a skill that doesn't pertain to my job or my life? Also, news flash: There's Chinese people all over the world. There was this fancy new invention made recently called transportation. It's a marvelous invention.
Why should I waste my time on a skill that doesn't pertain to my job or my life? Also, news flash: There's Chinese people all over the world. There was this fancy new invention made recently called transportation. It's a marvelous invention.
I never said you should do that. I’m saying there’s a valid reason to learn that if you want to. Yeah and when’s the last time the Chinese language has ever influenced a language outside of China? Oh right, never. Yet you see South Africans speaking fluent English. I rest my case.
-
The Japanese writing structure uses Chinese kanji. I wouldn't be surprised that English is common in South Africa given that Africa was invaded by various European countries for the sake of resources and imperialism. Also, stuff like Apartheid also plays a role.
-
Apartheid has no relevance in what language is spoken. Chinese has very little influence outside of china, that’s the point I’m making.
-
https://metrosaga.com/10-chinese-contributions-to-world-civilization/ You sure about that claim that you made that the Chinese didn't provide much influence to the world?
-
Chinese as in the language, not the people.
-
That makes no sense. English is easily the worst language to have as a common base if anything it should be something like Esperanto which was designed as the universal language. English is a very dumb language to have everyone learn as many languages have nothing in common with it. Also it’s just kind of lame looking.
-
Even though I'd consider myself very fluent in English because I went to American schools, I can definitely see where people are coming from when they say that English is a terrible language, especially if they're learning it as their second, third, onwards, language. Many of my friends from my college days that were international exchange students spent most of their time asking me to help them out with English, while I asked them to help me out in physics, calculus, and Japanese. Even though I needed help with more subjects, they preferred helping me out rather than constantly going through their English work. English is definitely a language that's a frankenstein of other languages.
-
It’s my secondary after a language my father created that is an even bigger Frankenstein than English seeing as it has roots in almost every language except Celtic and Greek. Unfortunately there is no name for it and I am one of three who speak it in the world so learning English and French as my secondary language was the only option as I live in Canada. I type on the forums in English because most peoples secondary language here is either Spanish or Japanese, oddly enough. My point for it looking stupid on writing still stands though. Would you rather look at some scribbled lines or some Katakana? I only know some basic Japanese along with Russian but only enough to do my job when I’m in those countries. So basic yes, no questions and, description words for what a suspect looks like. Sorry this is so long I got bored so I wrote this while in my hotel room.
-
I type on the forums in English because most peoples secondary language here is either Spanish or Japanese, oddly enough.
Spanish is understandable since either the second or third most spoken language in the world and is absurdly easy to learn if someone already knows a language derived from Latin. For the Japanese part, a lot of weeaboos are online. I learned Japanese mainly because I need to speak to my cousins that were born and raised in Japan fluently enough for them to speak back to me.
-
Yeah mine is more occupation hazard not knowing the language as I have dealings with members of the Yakuza around once a year. Mostly international missing people and they have the most reliable network outside of my own. I do need to learn Spanish though as it is a very widespread language in South America and I need to be able to work there. Normally I wouldn’t be able to talk about this but considering no one here knows what I look like and even my contacts only know me by my helmet I’m fairly safe... Unless Henderson is reading this then I will find you and I will get my 30€ from you... Sorry if your name is Henderson and you don’t know me; that doesn’t relate to you.

English is already dominant in the world. Cry about it.

We need to build up our community, both here and in real life. No, of course we will not always like everyone, but we can still respect them! Building the community up helps drop barriers created by our differences. It is all about getting past that psychological block that calls like to like and says they are safe. The only way to do that is by getting to know each other. We are all equally scared of the things and people we do not know about and fear and ignorance do not care about skin color, religion, politics, or sexual preference.
Does being able to order beer, ask where the bathroom is, knowing when the bouncer says not to touch the ladies, and being able to ask where the donkey show is count as a second language? If so, I know many languages! Sorry, I know it is a serious post and very true, but yeah, that is all I remember of the other languages I studied. I also know how to say honey from the bee in Spanish. Do not ask why that stuck, I am flabbergasted as well.
Well, when Bungie started with the first purge, it got rid of a lot of quality posters from this site. With the second purge, it got more of the quality posters that managed to remain here. I'm willing to bet with Destiny 3, there will be a third purge and every single quality poster that managed to survive the first 2 won't be able to survive the third one. All that will be left is the hugbox that can probably be equivalent to /r/incels. There hasn't been much of a community here since Destiny was released. There's a community for Destiny, yes, but the Offtopic definitely moved on to other websites because many of them felt like they weren't being represented in any way or being listened to by Bungie. Tbh, I've gotten to know a good chunk of the conservative posters in this forum since the majority of posters in the Offtopic tend to be conservative. I like conservatives in real life because they allow me to expand my political views and also teach me new things. But on this site, I can see myself associating with the 4 I can name right off the bat. I can deal with the rest of the people easily on this site, but the majority of conservatives on this site? Nah, other than the 4, I'd rather hang with people who give conservatives a good name. The rest feel like I get a brain aneurysm every single time I see them try to say that they're better than everyone else around here. This is pretty much a product of about 5 years of dealing with the new community and the people who managed to survive the first two purges.

I honestly wasn't going to come back, I came back to say good bye to God. Then I got to talking to a few folks and suddenly I am back. I truly can not stand the 13 year old mentality here. That being said, I am also not trying to get to know those folks either. The thing is, when we truly know each other, we are less willing to be hateful to each other, because we then care about each other. This place has some damned wonderful people and some people who should probably wear a helmet to protect what little is left upstairs, but if I took the time to get to know them, I may still not like them, but I might understand them enough to not start shit with them when they are going full blown dumbass, I would just nod and say to the others, "Yup, it is another episode. Let's see how far they can take this before they need their nuggets and blanket, then we can finish our conversation." I have a real life friend like that, dude could give Alex Jones a run for his money. He is a good person at his core though.
