  • Got firewolf first treasure from quest... Suck it you idiot who wastes money on nothing and contributes to the ruination of modern gaming. I wish I could delete your account, because that's what you really deserve for wasting all that money.. Git Gud Skrub

  • Lol how are you gonna tell people what to spend their money on. Do you go to the bar and tell the drunks to stop wasting their money? Or smokers.. or fat people with a crate full of Twinkies? Yes I understand that if NO ONE bought silver the system would go away, but you're not going to make that happen, and only going to look. Some people have the disposable income to "throw their money at the screen" and unless they owe you money or something, why do you care how they spend it?

  • Lmao I can make a stand against the ruination of the future of gaming that's what I can do. Micro transactions are one of the biggest things holding gaming back from what it could be. And it's the destiny forums so of course I'm gunna throw salt, -blam!- the people who waste more money than the game itself costs on silly cosmetics. They aren't just wasting their money, they are -blam!- the future potential of gaming, because good business is what makes most money for least effort, and that's what silly cosmetic RNG bullshit is. It's -blam!-ing disgusting.

  • It's cosmetics, get over it, plus you don't pay my bills the microtransactions pay for events like festival and SRL you don't like it then stop playing

  • Sorry you don't understand micro transactions with your selfish thoughts and actions. You prove that you only care about yourself and the your own foolishness and not gaming as a whole.

  • Well I understand your point of view and even agree to it to an extent. (I bought $20 worth of silver when it first came out and promptly regretted it. Anyone gambling on silver at this point should know the risks by now) It's just that I think that explaining how game companies are using B. F. Skinner and operant conditioning against their players is the bigger evil. People who dole out $$$ are being psychologically manipulated so it kinda seems unfair to blame the victim - even if they think it's their choice. (Kinda like the analogy of "let's throw all the drug addicts in jail, then people will stop dealing drugs." Didn't work :/) Interestingly enough, the DSM V (psychology handbook) has listed Internet Gaming Disorder as a condition for further study, which means that theoretically people could bring a suit against developers who target psychological weaknesses in a person with a disorder.

  • The problem is, how many people reading this even know who Skinner is? While I would disagree with his determinism, in this case he's spot on. What makes this much, much worse is that so many players are under age or even pre-teen kids. Fleecing adults may be deplorable, but robbing kids is criminal.

  • Tldr- you're right, it's f.u. I agree with you. I was almost tempted to suggest that there should be some sort of warning label, but in reality the responsibility falls on parents to protect and educate their children. Unfortunately, parents are learning to trust gaming consoles as babysitters. It's not just video games, however, once I started looking for it, I couldn't un- see all the attempts to mesmerize (another nod to a psychology great - Mesmer) children at an early age. (Reason why advertisers pay so much for streaming commercials) The scariest thing about conditioning and influencing our consumer decisions, is that even if you're aware of it, you're still not invulnerable. There should be some sort of ethical constraints (a daily limit on microtransactions or a cooldown?) But I doubt that would ever happen. Policymakers are a bit more knowingly influenced, so it falls on adults to make smart decisions, and parents to educate their children to do the same. I won't hold my breath lol.

  • Back in my college days (when even the science majors had to have 12 hours of phil & theo) on of my philosophy profs was doing a study on marketing techniques and ethics. I get it. I had that class back in the mid-80's and these market games predate that by centuries. Just to add another example look at how Walmart changes the location of product every few months. Pure marketing manipulation. As far as the Destiny microtransactions? Frankly, the way they have implemented it in the game context, it is no different than playing slots in Las Vegas. Only difference is that the prize in Destiny has less value - pixels instead of money. I tend to be more libertarian/conservative but in this case, I'd be willing to consider banning minors. There's a fair number of games I've banned from my home primarily because of microtransactions. If it creates a ceiling to progress, it doesn't come in.

  • Very fair response, but I don't believe that the spenders have no control except in the most extreme cases. I used to play some BS Star Wars card collecting game when I was younger. And I would throw money at it whenever I could, easily spending over 200 dollars over the course of playing that game(maybe more). But I did some basic research (and watched the South Park micro transaction episode "freemium isn't free" lol) and realized I was an idiot, that the game I was playing was only really fun when I spent money, and most importantly that micro transactions were lazy and terrible for gaming. That's when I deleted that bs game and stopped playing any micrograms action bullshit mobile games. But people can learn about micro transactions and what they're doing to shape gaming, and people can choke not to buy into the bullshit. Also the fact that now so many console games are using micro transacts in one way or another is terrifying and infuriating, and needs to stop if we ever want the groundbreaking games we deserve. Shit I'll buy a 100 dollar game if it comes out COMPLETE and without micro transacts.
