Well, video games do require a good hand/eye coordination, they certainly can be competitive, your skills/abilities do improve with practice, & some people are born with a natural talent & some people have earned their skill, just like any other sport & just like almost every sport, when it started out, gaming is not considered an actual "sport".

So, was I right that it is Pikachu (or however you spell it)? Well, back in the day, I certainly trained for it like it was the highest level sport imaginable! (Fapping, not gaming)

  • It is not just like any sport. It takes eye hand coordination to throw a cheeto up in the air and catch it on your mouth and some people are born with that skill but that will never be a sport. WWE wrestling takes a lot more ability and you will never see it in the olympics. Fact is a 500 lb fatty can be an elite gamer and therefore there is no chance gaming will ever be considered a sport

So, you are saying that because a 500 lb fatty can do it, it is not a sport.......Have you ever heard of Sumo Wrestling? Also, notice the "wrestling" portion of that, yeah, wrestling is a sport. WWE is not because it is staged, but those folks are considered athletes. Yes, throwing a Cheetos into the air & catching it in your mouth takes eye/hand coordination, so does typing & many other things. Now Salty McSaltyflapjacks, go re-read what I said in my reply to the other guy & see where I only pointed out HOW it could come to be a sport, not that it was one(see how I just said again that it was not 1, current trends make it so, but guess what, chess is considered a sport, checkers too, so go get some breakfast & watch cartoons to chill out.)

  • Key word being athlete. You do not have to be an athlete to play video games. By your meaning of sport, if i get a competetive group of people that can type well together it is now a sport. Or jugglers. Or cup stacking. Or hackey sackers. Or beer pong. Or pen flippers. Or magic performers. The list goes on. If there is no athletic ability involved its not a sport.

So, where is your answer to chess & checkers being considered a sport? Being an athlete does not mean you are in a sport, that would mean WWE is a sport. Is being a Samurai a sport? How about a Knight? Jousting was once considered a sport & that had many fat shirt men in tin cans riding muscled horses to hit each other with trees. X-games are now considered sports & some of that relies on gasoline powered vehicles, Nascar, drag racing, car racing period. Apply your logic there & explain why those are sport & gaming can not become 1.

  • Depends on which events of the xgames you are talking about. The endurance and strength it takes to control a 2 or 300 lb motorcycle over moguls and jumps is something only an athlete can do. Nascar is more of a competition like golf. Chess and checkers is a competition not sport. I know its recognized as a sport but lets be real, no one considers it as such. But to the original point, no gaming is not a sport. If it doesnt take an athlete to compete it is not such and I think that almost everyone out there would agree. Doesnt mean its not competetive or entertaining, hell I watch more gaming videos on youtube than anything else but in my mind its not a sport

Ok, fair enough description, but then how would you classify Sumo Wrestling? Also, when you look back to the start of most of what we consider sports today, those people(men mostly), where not these buff athletic gods we see today. They were overweight. Babe Ruth is a good point. The man was too fat to run, so he hit that ball hard enough that he could walk those bases. Fat does not equal weak or low energy, though it can be an indicator of that. Depending on where you start historically, a lot "sports" where merely training for war/battle. Chess & checkers taught strategy, relay races built endurance, archery contests, wrestling, blade work, etc. Our own military are picking up gamers to run their drone programs & things of that nature, so even the definition of a soldier is changing. My whole point comes down to this, things change. Just because you do not see it as a sport, it does not mean it can not become one.
