I play destiny since alpha, have hundreds of hours playtime and 3 chars - 32 hunter, 31 titan, 31 warlock. I completed the hard raids several times and gathered almost every single item I can think of. 4th horseman is the only exotic weapon I do not own yet. So I have enough experience and know all classes pretty well.
Every time I join a raid group there are two questions:
1) Do we have a warlock around?
2) Any titan in the team?
If one or two of these questions get answered by 'no' then one of the guardians changes to the appropriate class. This happened in almost every raid I participated in or listened to via party chat. What I am missing is the question about hunters! Dont get me wrong, I love playing my hunter as it is and I dont want any nerfs or buffs, but it gets increasingly frustrating that no one actually needs hunters. Warlocks can revive, titans have a bubble and hunters.. they can go invisible... sounds cool but there are very rare occasions it can be used for the team. The first phase in crotas end is the only part of destiny where a hunter can play out his advantages .. .. oh wait, do we have a titan? Cool, he can do that part just as good..
Warlock and titan players often make fun of hunters, knowing they arent needed for anything but pulling a trigger. Well, warlocks amd titans can pull triggers too, so hunters really seem to be obsolete..
Sometimes when my hunter enters a random raid group (not random really, you know what I mean) I hear a voice in my headset saying 'oh.. now we have two hunters.. hm.. titan would be better'
Why is that? I mean, the classes should be balanced not only in gunfights but in group play as well. Sunsingers are awesome, almost negating the drawbacks of a hard raid (selfrezzzzz), saving the whole team from being set back to last checkpoint, titans provide huge damage bonusses and offer protection as well, hunters .. .. well .. they shoot things..
I am not asking for buffs but I would love to see some more situations where hunters actually are needed, where they can play out their aces. Something like shortcuts that can only be passed invisible (e.g sentry guns killing guardians on sight).. I really hope the third subclass will be more useful to teams, some support skills, some buffs (like weapons of light) or some crowd control..
*edit* lots of feedback so far. Looks like the hunter is used as swordbearer at crota. Thats a pretty good use after all. My team(s) used warlocks most of the time, but we might reconsider regarding the feedback. Invisibility seems to be the key ability.

Tell them remind you when you need a swordbearer or clutch the lamps on crotas end. Or maybe even stay alive long enough cause everyone else is dead.
-
Remind me next time you need a hunter to go invisible to res you or you need a hunter to do the abyss run or be a sword bearer for Crota, to tell the hunter haters where to go!! That is all!!
-
Hunter requires the most skill without question. You are looking at it from the wrong perspective. Players seek Titans and warlocks because it's easier, not because they are better classes.
-
Hard mode crota hunters are the best sword bearers. Not saying other classes haven't done it though
-
2 RespuestasWarlock- reviving when we fail hard or wipe. Titan- defending teammates with bubble shield while adding a bonus. Hunter- reviving everyone in really bad situations by going invisible.
-
2 RespuestasYesterday , we've done crota hard raid with all people hunters It was pretty amazing !
-
4 RespuestasHunters are for gamers that prefer a faster paced fps experience. I don't feel sleek or fast while using warlocks or Titans. As a hunter I feel more in control and evasive. Why would you want to hover and not just double jump?! Double jump is the reason I'm a hunter.

1 RespuestaEditado por Howie: 2/2/2015 5:21:11 PMHunters aren't useless, but they could do with a pve buff for sure. Gunslingers are, imo, pretty much useless tho in pve. A levelled Ice Breaker does more damage than the golden gun and really, what else to they have? Give it and the throwing knife a significant dps buff and they may have a place. Bladedancers on the other hand have value as they can sneak about, revive people, kick Crota's arse etc, but they s still lack compared to the other classes. I think Hunters should have some crowd control skills - something that can stun or slow mobs down - and possibly some team buffs.
-
Hunter as a swordman in Crota is invaluable. Invisibility is great for the fight. Also, Golden Gun can effectively one-shot Oracles in VoG. No class is useless: some are just best for certain things. Hunters are good for solo play. Titans and Warlocks are team players more than anything but you can mix and match as you see fit.

I find that hunters ability to be fast in timed events and stealthy when the heavy camps on a dead guy, as well as there ability to destract the enemy or take out a big target/choice little targets is their perk. Of course this is overlooked in the chaos of everything, but most solid hunters say "i got it" first unless specificly instructed otherwise. As a personal experience, if i gotta keep a portal open or keep a bridge up, people usually cower behind me and tell me to kill the scary level 32 in front of us.

1 Respuestabladedancers can be really helpful, but gunslingers... they really are the worst of all for raids...
-
2 RespuestasTried making a hunter alt and i cant figure out how i got as far as i did with one lvl 32 character. Nevermind an alt. its like going to the dentist. Zero fun

4 RespuestasIf you are only talking about raids, then you may have a good point. You mentioned the first part of Crotas End and the Hunter can make this preposterously easy, far easier than the Titan. So far I basically agree. But Destiny is not just the Raids. My wee clan almost always runs with a Hunter when we do anything serious like Daily, Weekly, Nightfall and Strikes. (We do happen to have a particularly gifted hunter player). Countless times the invisibility is what wins it for us, picking us up when we are about to wipe. For us we find it an invaluable part of our team. Pvp, is of course another huge part of Destiny, which I enjoy playing fairly often. Again, Hunters are extremely good, their invisibility and blade dancing can be used to very good effect. As far as I can tell, from our experience, the Titan bubble is one of the most valuable abilities for the Raids, less so for the rest of the game.

Hunters are awesome.

Do we have a hunter to take Crota down? No? Okay see ya later....

11 RespuestasHunters take the most skill to use. Anyone that says the Hunter is useless obviously is not a knowledgeable Destiny player. Titans are a very good support class as Defender and Striker can help get the team out of tough situations. Voidwalker is great for clearing out enemies. Self res does nothing to help your team. You use self res because you are already accounting for when you die, and you use that as a crutch. Self res is also used in multiple cheeses, and if you cheese then you are also bad at the game. And don't give the "I don't have time to do it legit" excuse, if you knew what to do it wouldn't be hard. Huntet Golden Gun is great for doing high damage to targets, and combustion is great for clearing out multiple enemies. Blade dancer is used for pretty much Crota and revives. I have all 3 classes, and I find that the Hunter is honestly the most fun to play with. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the whole Sunsinger Master Race thing is hilarious. Scrubs use Sunsinger. End of story.

Hunters make Crota so much easier

I think people are too picky with raid teams sometimes. If they wanted a Titan, they should make A Titan and not complain. Literally only takes a few days to get the Titan to 20 then just gear from either VoG or the vanguard. Or crucible whatever you play. I got my Titan to 30 in only a few days. I did have one exotic thing for him but that was it. The rest was from doing roc strikes or VoG when I got to the level.

2 RespuestasIn my opinion hunters need an upgrade to the PVE golden gun. Since titans and locks have better supers for pve why not make the Golden gun like a serious dps against bosses. Golden gun does like 1k damage it's pathetic. I think people would value hunters a lot more if they had a super bad ass boss attack.
-
2 RespuestasBeing the swordbearer, getting the 2nd chest, holding the relic etc. Hunters are not useless. They just do what requires most pressure and have highest failure rate, and must succeed to win.
-
In CE hard, we need warlocks and titans, not only Hunters. Warlocks to generate orbs and titans to protect our team. In my clan, we use Hunters to get the sword and kill some enemies low tier with bladedancer.
-
1 RespuestaHahaha people want hunter for crota the only time hunter was useless was vog hunters are op in PvP so you don't know what your talking about
-
Hunter is used on crota hard mode for middle and left strategy. Any class can be used for horse shoe strategy which apparently is the safest strategy.
-
Well now on crota hard it's good to have a hunter sword bearer so your guy is gold if you can run the sword.
-
Hunter is personally my favourite class, but you're right, the abilities they have aren't all that useful for team play....well except invisibility, that's really helpful in a raid if you need to res team mates). They're also decent sword bearers in the Crota raid, but thats incredibly subjective. It kind of annoys me because they archetype isn't even used properly. Traditionally in these kinds of classes the Hunter type character is supposed to be high DPS, but hunters don't do anymore damage then the other classes. Hell their melee specific subclass gets outdone by the titan's shoulder charge.

1 or 2 Hunters is good for Atheon on hard they can clear the harpies, if they go inside they can golden gun all 3 hobgoblins or the two minotaur ads and one shot on the minotaur so it is easier for the sword carrier to kill it.. so in Atheon hunters is amazing! At Crota the hunter can grab the sword and go invisible and be the sword carrier so hunters is useful.
