That doesn't seem to work for me (unless it was very recently fixed). I have to press x (well, square for me), then go into the normal level one to get the restart mission dialog, back out to orbit and then start the heroic one... It doesn't restart for me if I use square and then change to a heroic level and go into it...

No, what you do is select the mission then go to difficulty. Instead of selecting the mission when your cursor is over the difficulty hit the restart button over the difficulty you want to restart. So when you have the selection of where it says normal, hard level blah blah and the other hard difficulties, instead of pressing square over the yellow hard box use the restart button.
