It was all for naught, after all. How Bungie ruined Destiny, and lost at least one loyal customer
Before I begin, let me just say that up until Tuesday I was absolutely obsessed with Destiny, and an avid fan of Bungie. As far as I was concerned, Destiny was one of the best games ever made, and the Vault of Glass was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I have ever had in a video game. I would run it for the loot, and then run it again several times a week just for fun.
Enter The Dark Below, Destiny's first expansion. At first glance I'm filled with excitement. New missions, new Strikes (I'm on PS4), and, or course, a new Raid. But then my smile faded, the controller slipped from my hand, and my excitement and desire to charge full-throttle at the new level cap disintegrated...
The Tower vendors are now giving away level 31 gear. Marks and commendations are easy to get. All you have to do is run bounties and strikes, which are fairly low-skill activities, in my opinion, not to mention boring and repetitive as hell. All that time spent playing VoG was a total waste of time, and all the gear we got from it (except the Mythoclast) are now obsolete. In fact, the VoG itself is now obsolete. There's almost no reason to play it anymore - even if you haven't reach level 30 by playing it. You're better off running bounties and playing strikes/crucible for marks. You'll get better gear, and you'll never have set foot in the VoG.

I agree. They do need a way to catch up. Having spent all of five minutes thinking bout it, here are two suggestions, that could easily have accomplished this, without making the VoG obsolete, and without making all time spent in the VoG a total waste.
1. Bump the VoG gear to 31, and make the tower gear level 30. That way, people could buy the lvl 30 gear, which would then make earning the level 31 gear from the VoG easier (hence helping them catch up).
2. Leave the tower gear as it was (level 29), and let people fight through the VoG to get to level 30, just like everybody else. To keep things accessible to non-30's, they could just have made Crota's End normal difficulty 29, medium difficulty level 30, and hard difficulty level 32.
In both cases, 30's are rewarded for their hard work, and non-30's still get a a leg-up and a chance to run Crota's End.
As it stands, I feel cheated, and will be investing in something more worth-while from now on. GTA, here I come.
Bungie, you just lost a player, and a loyal customer, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Those who don't either haven't given it enough thought, or had never invested in the grind for level 30 in the first place.

Here's the problem.... NONE OF US SHOULD HAVE TO DO THIS SHIT in the first place! WTF is this? Here's 2 months of wasted time... If exotics are the "bread and butter" per se of the weapons,, then we shouldn't have to buy new ones! Don't let Bungie's "upgrade" word fool you, we are -blam!-ing buying exotics that we've already purchased GODAMNIT! We -blam!-ing earned them! Now I have to WAIT again....., (BY CHANCE ) to see if MAYBE Xur has the -blam!-ing weapon for me to upgrade? And bye bye glimmer!!!! It would have been 50X easier, and more respectful if they just added 3 additional attack bubbles for us to upgrade it our existing exotics. OH.. what's more.. all that old raid gear.. OBSOLETE. In what MMO does just one tier below - previous - raid make all your shit obsolete? What a joke, the vendor sells better gear than the old raid? VOG doesn't even drop the new exotics, they are 300! the old ones! I am honestly hurt that Bungie thinks it's okay to laugh at me and disrespect my time. I'm not going to -blam!-ing GRIND GRIND GRIND for an already overpaid video game that should have included this expansion.. Here's $90 on a video game that makes you grind and doesn't give a -blam!- about your time or the fact that you jumped through all their hoops to even get the exotics in the first place. Let's make legendary weapons the SAME attack as exotics.. AND then.. we'll take the perks away!!!! UPgrade your exotics! no perks.. -blam!-ing farse.

6 RespuestasNever really got time to go through a 'full' end to end raid, was [b]very[/b] lucky to get my old raid gear and every time I tried hard mode I was met with 'oh, you're a 29? Bye then.' No helm for me then... So I'm happy I'm now back on an equal footing, and I can at least have the opertunity to play with others. I'm still wanting to do the VoG for shards/energy, after all, this new gear isn't going to level itself...

Legendary gear and weapons The existing exotics we have, we can buy an exotic shard to reset them to get the higher damage forbweapons and the higher armor level. Why not have a system where you can usw an ascendant shard/x amount of mptes of life/ x steange coins to reset your current legendary weapons or gear. Also for VoG weapons/raid gear. Make it x ascendant material to reset the raid weapons and gear to match the max level weapons and gear for the new expansion. There is alot of people who grinded for legendary weapons and armor. Also people who grinded for the raid gear and weapons. Instead of making them obsolete, let us reset or weapons and gear just like exotics. Maybe use you 1 accomadation to reset gear/weapons or use vangaurd/cruciable marks to reset all our equipment. Grindingn is grinding, but not to allow people to upgrad all their existing raid gear/weapons/legendarylweapons/ gear is ridiculous. Spending all that time to regrinding getting weapons you all ready have with a higher level damage but able to reset your exotics to get the higher weapon/armor ratimg is a joke. This pissed off alot of people. All bungie would have to do is give players options to reset their existing legendary items or raid items so they can reach the new max armor/ weapon damage output to match their counterparts from the new expqnsion.

I agree. I just reached level 30 not long ago because of weeks on doing the VoG raid. I feel cheated that I did all that work for nothing. I can buy better gears from the vanguard and the crucibles now and i feel like all my raid gears from VoG are worthless.

1 RespuestaI wouldn't say the VOG is obsolete. It is still by far the best method to get ascendant shards, which you will need in droves to level up all that level 31 gear. We ran it today for some. And man, we all have spent a lot of time in the vault of glass. Its part of the fun, and part of the game, but when a new expansion comes out there WILL be new content that requires higher levels and they just aren't going to make it exclusive to the higher level players. I think they knew the RNG system for loot is unforgiving so they gave many more options to get level 30 stuff. You still have crotas end to do, the new pinnacle of the destiny experience. This pinnacle will always be increased with probbaly each expansion and you shouldn't look at it as a waste of time every time it happens.

The ones that want to be higher levels with better weapons more easily so they can catch up to more hard core players and the ones that want to grind and work hard to get those gear and weapons and let the less hardcore people in the dust. Too much complaining from the players on both sides. Too little listening to either side from bungie besides that players always want more content, that is exceedingly clear. Too much greed on both sides. P.S. The forums just seem like a venting blog now. 90% rants, 10% other. Kinda tired of it now, so I think I'll be done posting here.

I agree here. I think the cap bump and equipment change in the tower would come eventually but not 3 months into the game when there was still plenty of things to be had. Now as many as 24 weapons and close to 50 armors from the vendors just dissapeared never to be seen again and a whole raid is useless.

Yeah i agree with all. I vote for option 2. New people can buy lvl 29 gear at tower vanguard, play VOG and be 30 then play new raid to be 32. Same for weapons. You want to upgrade legendary equipment? Make it with xur in exchange for strange coins for weapons but armor´s have to stay like always.

1 RespuestaPlease tell me you haven't played gta v when it originally came out. I like your ideas and theyre well presented but Destiny is not one of the best games ever. Far far from it, I know it's your opinion. I respect that. Hopefully Bungie will find a way to breath new life into the VoG.

What pisses me off is that i've played vog religiously and now finally got fatebringer and VoC, and now they are worthless. I like what they did with the armor since my destiny was to be stuck at level 29 forever but the weapons part makes me angry.

Unfortunately, no matter how you slice it the loot system, the level cap, everything that has to do with progression in this game is all part of the foundation. Sadly, I dont think it can really be fixed at this point as it would be an exhuasting task and probably need a complete overhaul of the game. They basically have artifically prolonged the game for rewards and leveling. It is a path that they thought was best, unfortunately their inexperience with mmos/rpgs shows in this case. Its a bad way to do things. Overall, as fun as this game can be at times, it is a very poorly designed game on so many fronts.
