...about the new exotic upgrade plans being implemented, go play DC Universe Online, then come back and tell me how much of a pain leveling up your exotic weapon was. Compared to the weapon/armor upgrades that are needed each time a DLC comes out with a new tier or better stuff in DCUO, this is a piece of cake. Having to rely on RNG in that game, coupled with all of the materials and plans needed to do so in DCUO is a pain.
Get over it and accept that this is what it is going to be. Silly petitions (that hold absolutely no weight whatsoever) will not change a damn thing and the sooner people stop crying and start realizing that this is an MMO too, the better.
Edit: this post was created as a reference only and it was not my intention to incite anger. If I offended anyone, I apologize. Most of the replys here offer constructive feedback and suggestions, which is what is desperately needed. We may not see any changes in 5 days time, but we can in the near future. We as players want transparency and communication from our devs to make this game truly shine and offering alternatives will expedite that process. This is OUR game after all!

1 RespuestaIn MMO with Vertical progression (WoW, DCUO, etc etc) it's completely normal that weapons are rendered obsolete with new expansion (lvl 60 green from Burning crusade beating Legendary raid gear was quite common and accepted). You normally feel like a God when maxed, because the content doesn't scale with you. You one shot everything and cannot be killed by lower level boss in instances. In horizontal progression MMO (Guild Wars 2 comes to mind), you tend to work on your character and look instead, and you never feel like a god, the content is dynamic and scales you down so that redoing old stuff is not meaningless and too easy. While Destiny is not a MMO, it's still closer to horizontal progression than vertical. Not wanting to play the last week before a DLC (played from day 1, many many hours each day) never happened to me before, with any others games (And I've played a lot of MMO since Vanilla WoW). I feel like every exp I gain (the only thing left for me to do was leveling my many exotics (20+) that weren't maxed) is wasted, and every shards I used to max them from a system implanted in a patch one week before the DLC could've been used to upgrade them instead... It's not crying for me, it's just a feeling of time lost.
