There're some terrible players on here. (Crucible)

So, I'm starting to get the hang of this game (I have twins that were born the week Destiny came out, so my time is limited (only just got my first Legendary Primary)). My K/D is improving and I normally go anywhere between 1.2 to 4.0-5.0. (Unless I'm being a one man team because for some reason, people like to spawn and run off in different directions (WTF?) and die over and over and....you get the point). So how are there people with a lot more hours played and higher level Guardians (sometimes, they have three) who run minus and drag teams down all the time? Logic would have it, that the more you play, the better you get. Apparently not. This isn't me taking the piss, so to speak, just my two cents on the matter. And possibly a way to find other players to play with, if anyone's keen. EDIT: I'm aware that some people only play PvP because they're forced to due to Bounties and marks. You can usually tell them apart from the rest as they wouldn't have clocked up that many kills in The Crucible. I'm on about the ones that have a lot of kills, with a bad K/D. Again, I'm not slating, it's just frustrating. EDIT 2: What're people's thoughts on a playlist that's unlock-able for higher ranked players? Just a quick thought, but if there's reason this would suck ass, then please inform me. EDIT 3: If the Crucible Rank idea couldn't work, what're people's thoughts on a playlist based on matching people with their K/D? Could that work? EDIT 4: Something like The Arena in Halo: Reach. EDIT 5: Can you all please BUMP this so maybe Deej will see this and hopefully one day we can have some form of competitive playlist (other than Iron Banner (I like how your weapons and armour work), but with weapons and armour at the same base levels as standard Crucible). That way, more people who actually want to play PvP can play with like-minded players, and the people who're not that fussed but fancy playing Crucible and those that're forced can play with other like-minded players. Lets get this trending! EDIT 6: It seems that quite a few people only play for the reward system, some even admitting to playing terribly because 'I've received an exotic for coming last whilst the top players got nothing!' So what about a competitive playlist that doesn't have a reward system, instead replaced by a True Skill system which you're matched to other players through? EDIT 7: With the DLC on the 9th, there's a playlist that is based on 3 losses and you're out, or something? Do's anyone know about this? And if it will be matching players to their own skill level?

  • I can't speak for everyone, but, it seems to me that Destiny attracts a different kind of FPS player than a game like CoD or Halo. I don't particularly enjoy either of those. Destiny is the first FPS game I've played more than a handful of times, and while I enjoy pvp, the learning curve has been rather steep. I don't play for the sake of testing my skill usually. Just to get my bounties done. Which, if I have a melee or postmortem bounty, I'm doing suicidal things just trying to farm those kills, and I don't care if my team wins or if my k/d sucks. I think having a ranking system is a fantastic idea. A separate playlist accessible to anyone where you gain or lose points based on your k/d with raid-level rewards near the top. I do wish regular crucible rewarded better players more often. I've seen last place finishers walk away with exotics and it didn't feel right. I think maybe having special ships/shaders only drop for the top player on a team would be enough motivation. Also, the difference between a win and a loss in the crucible isn't that much. Maybe have special "margin of victory" rewards...more rep, more marks, more glimmer, ascendant materials, etc.

An average of a 1.3 KD doesn't set you far above the bar of 'bad players'. Secondly, winning only exists because of losing - you can't win them all. (Even if you did amazing and your team did not.) Your two cents is poorly put. Just ask for matchmaking and quit bashing - yes, calling anything bad is bashing.

The game needs 2 things, period. 1). True Skill. A ranking system that assigns you a rank that goes up or down based on your k/d. You're positive you go up. You're negative, you go down. Like Halo 2 had. And you only play people in your skill ranking. The game is more enjoyable when everyone is playing groups within their same skill level. 2). Opt out of parties. If I have to go in solo, why should I be on a team of mimes that refuse to use the team chat and communicate, running in 5 different directions, while the other teams are clearly a group of six communicating. Parties should only be an opt in option where they play other parties exclusively.

        • You can't end up with everyone on the playlist having an amazing k:d at the end of each game. Surely that's basic mathematics. Happy to be your cannon fodder as I try and sort bounties etc Played hard to get IB boots in my quest to get to 30 purely because RNGesus had been crap in terms of raid gear. If you could 'earn' ie pay for 30 armour through work in PvE that would be great. There must be some ranking involved as I always seem to end up with 29/30 s for control etc

          • I am pretty sure I'm one of the people you're talking about. My k/d is rubbish but for some reason I still find myself chipping away at the crucible. I try to stay with teammates and team shoot, etc but I regularly get mowed down. If there's a stat for most "back in action" medals I probably am near the top of that leaderboard. Despite that, I still have fun on a regular basis. I'll keep Trying to improve, but for me the skill ceiling hangs pretty low and That's just something I'll have to deal with. should there be a playlist for the proverbial "try-hards" I can't see why not. Whether they like it or not 50% of players are below average(technically 49.999...%). There's a lot of people who get the mistaken idea that PVP should just come naturally to everyone, but they're wrong. Sometimes experience just isn't enough to compensate for the gap in skill. Currently the game doesn't punish for this, and I'm glad it doesn't. Along the same line they shouldn't hold you back from your desire for more competitive (skill discriminated) gameplay. I'm all for it I can only imagine that this would improve the overall experience for most people.

            • I just have terrible luck in the crucible. I'll follow my teammates to an objective, (try to do the team stuff) and usually the second I get there a warlock or titan supers me. I usually have better luck one my own. If my teammates are capturing an objective I'll branch off, and find a pathway I can flank the enemy team from.

            • I hate the crucible but I have to play now after the patch to make use of my faction. I've watched the tutorials and read the hints and I just flat out suck at it. I also have zero desire to get better at it. I don't find it fun at all. Point being, bungie is forcing people into the crucible. I think it's a terrible idea. Unfortunately until they bring back marks for mats, you'll see us getting our 2 points per match.

              • I'm not that good and the Crucible and frankly I could care less. I forced myself to slog through it to satisfy several bounties and what not and I'm even to the point where I'm actually enjoying the Crucible. But never will I take it seriously enough to give two shits about K/D, I'm just in it for the fun of the game. Besides, my connection to Destiny's servers are perpetually crap, which makes it impossible to take it seriously. IMO if you want "serious PvP' go pick up Countr-Strike.

                  • Not a huge fan of PVP because of that exact reason. I tend to gravitate towards control but I lose my sh*t when the entire team scatters, most have no strategy and no idea how to play PVP.

I'm more of an objective player from my COD and Battlefield days, something I am trying to get rid of in the Crucible because it really is all based around kills. When I first started playing Control I was always trying to cap flags, going 1 on 3 and getting just destroyed every time I came around a corner, trying to get the objective for my team and as a result taking a lot of stupid deaths that I later realized only helped the other team win faster. I was so focused on objective play from prior games and Halo. So now I try to play more in control and adapt to the map and the flow of the game, stay with my teammates, retreat from bad odds. As a result I got my K/d up from .38 to around .70 while doing the Invective and Bad Juju bounties, even pulled a 1.00+ quite a few times. Despite that I still have hardly any desire to play crucible as I just can't stand the rampant shotgun/fusion camping that goes on in it, at least on Xbox. I wish they had some more open maps that allowed for scout rifle/sniper battles, something more like SWAT from Halo which would put more emphasis on gunskill vs. cheap tactics. That's an issue with most FPS games these days though as they try to cater to newer players and make it easier to get kills, gunskill and aim/accuracy is more and more reduced with each game that comes out, with COD being the worst giving players all kinds of kill streaks and secondary gear like shock grenades, claymores, and more and more items that allow you to get kills w/o actually being skillful at the game. It's this reason I tend to stay more on the PVE side of Destiny and limit my PVP play to other MMOs that I play. There are also way too many "cheap" kills in this game which is another big turn off for me. I started PVP gaming way back with Tom Clancy's Delta Force games on PC where it was basically 1-2 bullets and you were dead with none of this equipment and super stuff, if you couldn't aim you got destroyed, and sadly games these days have taken a large amount of the skill mechanic away.

                        • Unfortunately this game massively suffers from "the host with the most" syndrome. I can tell when my ps4 is hosting a game because good players who were in the same group last game are getting completely dismantled by me in the next game. I'm a 1.5 or so KD kinda guy but when I'm the host it can climb as high as 12 in a match. I know the host always has an advantage but it's so dramatic in this game! In fact I can tell within 2 minutes of entering a game if the host has a crappy connection just by how myself an everyone else is doing. I would have gladly paid $10 more for this game if they would have had dedicated pvp servers. So in closing sometimes it's not the player at all. But if they have a statisically low KD overall then it's a problem with the person.

Im in the same boat as u always carrying players with such low k/d's (.5 to .1) and it gets so annoying. So i try and play with a few friends when i can but a true skill ranking system in a specific playlist would be ideal! Consider this bumped.

I'm generally not good. I have some moments of complete awesomeness but I'm not consistent. Since I've switched to sniper and hand cannons my k/d in some games has been above 2.0. I'm better at sniping. Some maps though, aren't that great for sniping:( Even though my k/d isn't high I am very clutch. If that makes any sense.

                                      • I have this problem. My teammates like to run off on their own and get killed in unmatched gun battles. This often leaves me fending for myself in a 1v2 or 1v3 gun battle. I can usually take one guy out, but I usually die after that. One way to resolve this problem is to play Rumble. I've only just discovered Rumble for what it's worth today, but I expect a Rumble kdr above a 2.0

                                        • Would love a ranked playlist so to speak without rewards. Or maybe have it to where you (or your fight team) have to reach a certain rank said mode to be able to buy the not so common items, maybe pvp gear that would allow you to get 30 without raiding. Lets face it not everyone is 100% keen on doing the raid but right now they are forced to do so in order to get 30. Even with both IB pieces (gloves and boots) you still need a raid chest or helm with the remaining piece exotic. I personally like raiding but if me or my friends can't find the time to complete a raid, I think you should be able to do a couple games with a full fireteam and do ranked and possibly (would take of course can't make it really easy) get a certain rank for gear for level cap. Only way this would work though is that they would have to make it just as time consuming as the raid if not more because it wouldn't be RNG gear because said rank would reward gloves or boots. Unlocking more gear slots as your fireteam ranks up.

Just bad luck with nailing down those kills sometimes. I tend to roll with 1-2 other ppl in a fire team though so one of us tends to have a great kd just from being there and picking up a couple of easy kills through out the map. Also on control some people will prioritise capping a point over killing thus put themselves at risk more often and then there are the baiters who will run into harms way to attract the other team so someone can get a trip or quad kill with a super or rocket.
