Ok so I asked if someone who witnessed a murder would report it to the cops. Most people obviously said yes, 80% in fact.
Now here's the flip. Let's say the person committing the murder was the person you cared most about in this world? Would you still report them to the cops.
Let's say to clarify that it was just an act of violence but you've known this person your whole life and was nothing but good to you, you love this person and they love you.
Look at that people, less than half of us would report a murder if it were someone we loved. A complete stranger however, 80% would turn them in.
I would like to think I would do the right "moral" thing and turn them in but how do you really know how you would react in that situation? I hope nobody ever has to find out and thank you for all your responses

Yes, a crime is a crime regardless of who commits it.

3 RespuestasBut the person I care most about in this world is myself :\ (if anyone harps on normative moral conventions I might be peeved and retaliate unmercifully :3) Heck no! If I'm murdering anyone it's for a damn good reason.

2 RespuestasWho are they murdering and why? I'm not an advocate of outright vigilanteism but sometimes, in rather extreme cases, someone needs dead and the authorities won't dead 'em and it falls to the average citizen to become the avatar of justice.

Depends on the who and why.

Circumstance would play a huge factor. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Say it was a fight that got out of hand or something like that. I'd probably walk away and never mention it again. If it was just cold blooded murder, where they enjoyed and actually planned the act. I'd have to turn them in solely for moral purposes.

There is definitely a bias here as I would be way less likely to listen to reason from a stranger. Perhaps the person murdered was an abusive partner or a rapist? If their reason was not good, I'd probably report them to the police. The reason I believe I would is because if their reason was something bad, I'd never be able to look at them the same way again and thus the friendship is over.

Not enough information for me to decide

Uh, yeah. I'd probably beat the shit out of them too.

1 RespuestaDepends on who they're killing, their reasoning, and if they're coming after me next.

I would report them. If I found out the person I love most in the world was a murderer I would try to keep away from them.
