I've seen a lot of posts since Destiny launched regarding acquiring gear and the unfairness of RNG. We don't understand the system they proclaim, I played 10 days straight and not had a Legendary! The game is flawed!
I was in this camp. Along with the other complaints (story, repetition etc), I asked myself - what is it that keeps me playing? Sure the gunplay is great but that's not it, it's not enough to keep me playing the same mission, the same strike - over and over and over again.
Then it hit me. The RNG, the luck (or lack of!), that gamble feeling, the joy at obtaining something great, the groan of another piece of junk. That RNG I thought I hated, that slow progression, that longing for a particular item - that was what keeps me coming back.
Maybe, without realising it, your the same. Ask yourself, if acquiring weapon X was guaranteed from doing action A, would the game have the same hold? Would it actually be as fun?
For me the answer is no. I'd have stopped long ago. For me Destiny is about the gear, the never ending quest to get the next best thing. The feeling when you finally get it, the admiration and envy of someone who has what you want. It's perversely fun.
So take a step back, maybe this is you. Stop hassling Bungie to change the game for the worst. Learn to stop worrying and love the RNG. Dr Bungie does love you, it's just tough love.

1 Respuestalove the name of this post great movie reference

1 RespuestaThe RNG has been kind to me. Too kind. I am being smothered in everything. Except for the raid gear. It has been the only thing to elude me.

Editado por CaptLonnie: 10/17/2014 8:34:42 PMThe problem I have with the RNG is the quality of drops. If you are lvl 29 why would the game reward you with rare items of lvl 20 from a weekly set at 28? I mean you can't even be 28 without a legendary piece. Come on. I don't mind the RNG in patrol or lower end strikes but when I know it's equal to my lvl or raid I should be getting something equal or greater to help me progress. Another thing is the repeating of the same items. Last night I ran 8 strikes in a row and got 4 of the same item from cryptarch and 3 non-engram from tiger. I did get a shader, but come on, 8 strikes for it?

2 RespuestasThe game really isn't about loot, so randomness works. Everything you need to progress in this game is either given to your or can be bought which is not random. Loot and abilities are just Destiny's version of the FPS perk system. You really don't need them but they help. This game is about FPS gameplay action, and any random drop rewards are just to make things a bit more interesting. How many complain that the lottery is random?

Without RNG, A lot fewer people would still be playing right now. Trying to get raid gear is a pain..

3 RespuestasGood post. I agree and I think that most would as well, as much as they'd like to (and probably will) say otherwise.

1 RespuestaThe title of your post was much more satisfying than it's content.

Destiny RNG = Feast or famine.

12 RespuestasThe loot system from most things is fine to me. The loot system from the Crucible is something I have a problem with, because there is literally no incentive to do well when the guy on top of the winning team and the guy on the bottom of the losing team have the same chance for the same rewards. The loot system from the raid has a problem with me apparently, as my friend and I have done the raid several times, including once on Hard, and he has full raid armor, the Mythoclast, all the aesthetic pieces save for maybe one ship, and the sparrow. He got the sparrow, mythoclast and the raid helmet in the Hard run we did together, and this was his first try. Going through several hours of frustration because of constantly swapping teams for people who can actually do the raid up to Atheon just to get none of the hard raid rewards while another guy gets them all at once makes me want to completely quit this game. It makes it even worse that I've completed the raid every week except for the first week it was out, and have almost nothing to show for it, while said friend pretty much has everything from the raid.
