The first answer in this weeks mailbag (to " I would like the rumors to be addressed about…) I felt was a little condescending.
Now we can all argue forever about planned DLC vs on disk DLC (the whole internet has been talking about it for years). But I'm not overly concerned about that.
What bothers me is the state of the plot of the game. I'm a member of a small community devoted to sinking our teeth into the Halo universe. Everything from the nature of the Flood, the operations of the Halo Array, the philosophy of the Forerunner, the future of the Covenant post-war and the crimes of humanity.
As gamers, and readers, we were greatly anticipating having a new universe to ponder, explore, and speculate on. But when we bite down on Destiny we catch the only the wisps of forgotten tomb dust before our teeth clack together. How can one find greater meaning when one cannot ascertain the INITIAL meaning? Read between the lines when the lines themselves do not connect?
The voice talents of some wonderful performers are wasted here. Unskippable cutscenes are a chore to watch over and over. Having the disconnect between character knowledge and player knowledge thrown in my face for the hundredth time by Ghost Tyrion's line about the Black Garden "we've heard the legends" is galling to say the least.
No motivations are clear, be it your character, NPCs, or the enemy factions. Nothing seems threatening when we never see the city attacked, and our PC is invincible. The ancient technology seems oddly anachronistic. The entire game we are TOLD how wonderful the Traveler is but never SHOWN. Sure it makes Spaceball's everywhere swell with pride, but it doesn't mean anything to me.
In the past I've been disappointed by the lack of story/plot/narrative DLC content re: the Halo series. I bought the Halo 2 DLC on disc just for the extra cutscene (didn't have live back then). But I'm worried that Destiny is too far gone. DOA.
Rumors may be rumors, but two of the most amazing creative talents in the industry were fired/left the company in the lead up to the worst storytelling example from Bungie I've yet to experience.
* Is the Grimoire being integrated into the game?
* Are additional/replacement cutscenes planned for existing content? New dialogue for existing missions?
* Are new missions going to show us the city, and the impact of the opposing forces against human civilisation?
* Are the voice talents contracted for DLC work?
* Is the back story of the player character going to be explored? Or the guardian creation process? Or ANY of the other characters?
* Are we actually going to SEE the Traveler DO anything (Present, or past) to justify everyone's blind faith?
* How about optional terminals in game with expository text?
Even with all of this I'm not sure you'll be able to fool anyone into thinking this flesh golem of a tale you've delivered is well formed and statuesque, but one can always hope.

Hi Sinking teeth into Destiny universe at the moment is like eating a blank piece of paper-flat and tasteless. cheers

1 RespuestaI love this.. I've taken a different look to the game. What if and hear me out the point is to be confused rushed and clueless. Let's say you were picked up one day told your the only hope and grab a gun. I dont mind being lost and confused. Kinda adda to the fun. Now DLC can be made for all the ore stuff and current we want to know. A "back in time" dlc for the traveler, one for each of the bad guy groups. There are endless possibilities to make this awesome. Just try looking at it like that and see if it doesn't help.

1 RespuestaAny true effort that they'll put forth will probably be for the sequel, (wouldn't be surprised if it's already in the works). They're gonna shelf this game once they unload the two expansions. They don't care
-
Editado por Kovathos: 10/11/2014 11:48:47 AMThey most certainly could. Likely that they will? No. Best you can hope for is that any future content is done at a higher quality level.

Be ready for more flashback scenes than Lost.

2 RespuestasI think it's funny on the black garden the ghost says were "back on mars" hmmmm really looks more like venus or the pvp map on mercury but ok it's mars never mind the fact the face of the planet has been sculpted like when the ghost said that the vex had taken mercury and made it in to a machine. There's something wrong here really wrong.

Fixed via patch? Sure, if you call expensive DLC a "patch". Will it be fixed? Probably not.
-
I lol'd at voice actors contracted for DLC. The "DLC" is already done, and was ripped from the game last minute, by order of Activision. Hence cut scenes we saw way back when are no longer present.

1 RespuestaEditado por MacWilliam: 10/7/2014 2:08:55 PMFirst of all, great post. Good criticism and I'm sure most everyone agrees. I also fell in love with the Halo Universe and greatly enjoyed exploring it's lore and tried to do the same with destiny only to be horrendously disappointed. This story is bust. They will not fix it with some mere patches. The best they can do is release some actually good new free content (no more of this idiotic Queen's Wrath crap) that further explores the lore and gives us new missions to play. Then make some great quality dlc for us to really sink our teeth into, preferably focusing on one, maybe two factions at a time while revealing more about our own history and the traveller. And for the love of god give us a dialog option for all the NPC's in the tower letting us ask questions about who they are and what they do. Banshee seems like an interesting character when you read his grimoire but in the game he's just the gun guy. And the factions! Give the factions some lore damn it! The only one we really know anything about is Dead Orbit. And there mandate is, -blam!- this shit, we wanna get out of here.

2 RespuestasYeah. The disconnect between character and player starts to become hilariously bad after awhile. How many different databases does Triangle-boy scan? We're always discovering new caches of lost "Golden Age" knowledge, hell we even raid a sealed archive untouched since the collapse, but does that knowledge get prefaced in any meaningful way? Does Triangle give us any sizable, meaningful, lore that expands our knowledge? Do we become better informed? Nope. It's actually really dark if you think about it from an ingame perspective. You're supposed to be a knight fighting for his sieged castle, taking knowledge to fight the enemy and protect his people. But the reality becomes that you fight for yourself instead of others. You fight to get better at fighting, not because you give a hoot about anything that happens in the tower. I mean, honestly, if the tower fell, and everybody died why would we care? We didn't know anyone. We didn't care about anyone. It's a chain that forces us to return through necessity, not affection. To put it in perspective, The Queen shows up in two cutscenes and has a handful of lines. But has more character weight than the entirety of the tower. Our opponent is better developed than our allies. She even shares more information then them.

Game is done and dusted. We will get 2 more "expansion" packs focused on the remaining 2 factions (Vex & Cabals) based on what we are getting on the 1rst season pass and call it a day. Im sure they are working on DESTINY 2 as we speak but if they are planning to release it on all 4 platforms with the same lame narrative im out. I strongly believe that Destiny fallen short out of its potential cause Activision forced Bungie to make the game with last gen in mind thus trading its true potential for maximizing profits. Bottom line: I enjoy the game. Wouldn't have bought it though if I knew what they did to it. Next time I'll wait for REVIEWS...";(

From now on I'm gonna say "President Scroob! SALUTE!" whenever I see the speaker. Spaceballs. How did I not see that before. Lone Star the human hunter. Barf the awoken titan. Dot Matrix, the exo warlock. It all makes perfect sense now.
-
This is my concern too. Maybe they can add a bunch of cutscenes to fill in the gaps and maybe a few story missions too. I think they really need to fix the current story before adding on to it because I don't even know what the story is about its that bad.
-
Agree since beta.

1 RespuestaWELL said. The story for Destiny needs some major plot lines revealed to give more investment from the PC perspective. Grimoire library in the tower will help tremendously as well. +1

2 RespuestasPAC-MAN did well without a story
-
Good post. I think this game is dead. They should repair what they can, but ultimately we won't be able to get much more. I'd advise them to release what they can in another medium, then pit the full effort into the sequel. They chose a really weird method for a lot of things, release schedule/manner, in-game mechanics relative to RPGs, making a social experiment anti-social... but it's pretty lost with this iteration. I really hope the DLC adds more, but I wouldn't be surprised to find myself looking forward to "Fate."

9 RespuestasI call for a mulligan. Go salvage all the old scripts and recorded footage and cut-scenes and everything, flip the bird at whoever the -blam!- said it was too complicated for the intended audience, and pack it into a thirty gig patch.
-
1 RespuestaGreat post. I'm not holding my breath for DLC fixes to the game's storyline. It wouldn't be impossible to fix things, but the fact that the original vision of the game was gutted the way it was (this hasn't been absolutely proven, but I think all the evidence strongly points to this having happened) suggests that the wrong people are making the decisions at Bungie now. There would have to be a significant change of command/heart and a renewed commitment to creating an epic universe. That seems very unlikely.

10 RespuestasRemember there wasn't a whole lot of in depth lore in Halo:CE, to be fair there was a bit more than what Destiny has at the moment though but I do think Destiny's story will grow
-
This isn't halo or even like halo. With halo, u get the whole story n that it. Destiny was designed to grow from the start. I understand the argument, but I'm hoping destiny holds up to what was promised, and that is a story that grows over time.
-
What story
-
1 RespuestaThe story is junk and there's no amount of DLC that can fix it. It's just going to be Junk continued.
