Agreed. The Tower is lifeless. It's a 'social hub' only in name. Go play World of Warcraft for 20 minutes and see what a social hub is.
You'll laugh at the claim The Tower is a social hub after that expereince.
People really need to stop comparing this to WOW. Yes they are both MMORPG's but they will be nothing alike. Even in the early days of WOW there was a lot less to do than it has now. Just give this game a few years or even one an it will have so much more! People..,it is BRAND NEW! Give it time to grow and mature. Please.

Wow actually had a LOT more to do day one than Destiny does. Whilst I agree with the fact they are two different experiences, when Bungie makes the effort to define an experience they have to remember the playerbase has no other frame of reference than past experience with similar titles Now I know Bungie has deliberately avoided coining Destiny as an MMO experience, but the fact of the matter remains that many of it's parts are directly comparible and as such, it's certainly fair to compare the experience Will Destiny have launch teething issues? Sure, the horrible network/server problems are testament to that. But it doesn't excuse the fact that at it's core, Destiny tries to define an experience that's a sum of parts from other games in a similar genre, but doesn't even equate or yet alone pass what other games have already done and done better Name a component of Destiny that no other game on the shelf does better? The social experience for SURE is one of the weakest components of this game - it's flat out terrible no matter what you compare it to I mean no chat window or proximity voice chat in an open world multiplayer experience? Wtf were they thinking???
The social experience for SURE is one of the weakest components of this game - it's flat out terrible no matter what you compare it to
one word....Defiance. I wouldn't compare 1 week old Destiny to 10 year old WOW. That's like making a 1 week old baby take a knowledge test against a 10 year old.

Defiance actually had passable social aspects, such as proximity chat and trade. And it was a legitimate mmo

I disagree, sure you can't compare something to an established game in terms of content, but we're talking about a very simple feature which was actually a choice by the devs, to strip voice communication out of the game because they think that was what is best for us. They claim the game to be made for teamwork, socializing, etc....but you can't do any of this unless you already have known friends to invite in your fireteam. The tower is supposed to be a place of gathering for players to group up, how can you do that when you can't communicate to anyone at all besides point and dance? I can understand voice chat being annoying for some people because of the trolls and 12 year olds, but this would so easily be solved to just have a chat system in the tower and plug your keyboard in....that way you can look for groups for Strikes, Crucible, Raids, etc.

I never said I didn't what a chat feature. IMO though Destiny should have a way for people to view fireteams who need more players. Maybe like a Board or something in the Tower. A text-based chat is a good idea but not everyone has a keyboard or they may be just too lazy to plug it in.

There's also the smartglass apps for phones and computers. We really do need some form of communication in-game, though. Coming on this site just to find a team for anything kinda kills the immersion. I feel like there's no point in even having a "hub" when I can't really interact with anybody there. The only thing I've ever done was play an impromptu game of "hackysack" once with the big ball that apparently shows up on every 500th instance of the tower.

yeah I'm hoping Bungie adds in more social features in the tower sooner then later.
