So I was thinking, "what if the next Destiny games were just giant 20 GB expansions?" They could be equivalent to the first game with four/five locations, same amount of story, and same amount of overall content.
Then I continued this idea and thought, "what if they did both?" Make it so that a player that only owns Destiny 2 has access to the content from that game but doesn't have access to the older content like mars, old russia, etc.
However, if you buy the next game and have data from the old one on your account/system you could use the new game to access both the new and old content similar to how you have an install disc for games like Halo 4 and GTA 5.
Let me know what you think about this in the comments.

In all likelihood the next Destiny will be a disc/retail/digital game. They will avoid it being some kind of extension add-on or expansion. Mainly because of marketing issues. Trying to sell a brand new shiny Destiny game to a customer base that hasn't followed or is as attuned to Destiny news this community is much easier then having it look like an expansion that requires the original game. That would keep people from buying it. They've discussed that very topic in some interviews. I would certainly would love to have all 3 Destiny games in my console and be free to bounce between them but it seems far to unrealistic. Sure, when we transition from Destiny to Destiny 2: revenge of the Moon Wizards, we'll be able to carry over our guardians and gear. That gear will soon lose it's luster and legendary status in D2 when you have all new loot to collect. And then the cycle happens again when we move from D2 to D3:Guardians go to Hollywood. This far removed you can expect new loot new animations and new specials. None of those things can go back into D1 and work when it was never programmed. Most likely you'll be able to go back in game and only use the max character you had during that game

As long as the futures games have all the maps from the previous games

1 Respuestaugh... i thought they said this game was going to last 10 years.... and that its not going to be like COD which releases a new game every year and all your progress gets wipes. Destiny your progress will continue for 10 years. now they havent said whether that will be in new games or expansions but i would assume were getting 10 years of expansions. and if they bring out destiny 2 our characters better be getting ported.

2 RespuestasEditado por Gatsby: 8/21/2014 12:12:10 PMWell Mr Smart man, if they release them as fully fledged games costing $60 they will get more money than selling them as $30 expansions. Since Bungie are a business they're obviously going to take this route.

2 RespuestasI think the sequels will be their own game. The size of all the content would be an issue, plus I'm sure I saw a video with one of the developers saying that your guardian would carry over to the next game (please don't quote me on that).

If the next xpacks or w/e are making Destiny a seperate game, like halo was, i am done with Destiny. Either it goes on like WoW or i am out. Simple, its all 1 big allways connected universe with Destiny or i am not interested. Its next gen for logics sake. Well its called next gen but i was expecting more, o well. still love my PS4!

It makes the most sense to me for destiny 2 to be XBox One/PS4 only, and its own disk. If Destiny 3 is to release on current gen, then that will be released in the form of an expansion.

Editado por Ensley2913: 8/21/2014 10:01:57 AMMy hope is that every couple years they release a full sequel with updated graphics/AI. These sequels would include all the areas we have come to know and discover (the Cosmodrome, the Tower, the moon, Mars, Venus, etc) plus additional planets. I think it would be very nostalgic and fun to return to old locations with new storylines in addition to exploring new planets. I hope to see each game branch farther into the solar system until we get to interstellar space. I would hope that each new game would raise the character level cap, and we would just continue our journey with the guardian that we built. The fact that the soft cap is at 20 seems to support the idea that we will be bringing our guardians with us into each new game. I just can't see Bungie asking us to reset with a new character for each new release if they want this to continue on for a decade. In between sequels, I hope to see new missions and perhaps a new location or two via DLC. No matter what happens, I know that I will be having an absolute blast with what Bungie has built.

3 RespuestasEditado por Kekyoin's Underwater Donut: 8/21/2014 7:34:24 AMA console can only hold so much data. You'd have ONE game taking up the majority of your space. So good luck with that... It'd be better for them to just make a whole new game so they can improve everything from graphics to different features. It's harder and longer but always reaps the best results.

I would very much like a World of Warcraft approach with "expansions" to the original game digitally similar to DLC and then halfway through do another physical disc release

1 Respuestawell i would say they should be advancements of the story but with the possibility of new heroes. as we have no name except Guardian, it can continue down a few different paths unless they actually give our heroes a name or something we are just gonna be cogs in the machines with no background. so with no background - why continue a story when they indeed could improve on a players role in the game instead of being an undead grunt with no name to indeed giving the hero you pick to play a name or title other than guardian in destiny 2 / 3. Right now we are just at the fore front of what could happen in game this game is like dipping your hand into a puddle whilst the next could bring dipping your hand into a river and the one after like dipping your hand into the ocean. what we will have now is a small game to start the ball rolling and hopefully they will change it to be more of a roleplay in the game where we feel like we're doing something in game instead f feeling like it doesn;t really matter what you guardian does.,

I guess the question is how different will the sequels be compared to the first game. If there's any monumental leap in game mechanics then it blows that out of the water. Plus, If this game is successful I'd be hoping for a bigger game. Which is usually how series like this work. More areas longer story more content in general.
-
But then graphics wouldn't be upgraded from game to game
-
New games WILL carry over data from previus ones. Also i don't think they will take out something but instead add it. And a new game will allow them to revamp graphics and other things that with just a "update" won't be as easy or possible

4 RespuestasEditado por Blackliukang: 8/21/2014 7:36:00 AMi think they are expansions in there own way even if it is another disk our characters carry over anyway its been confirmed
-
They're going to be separate sequels. They even said it in one of the more recent videos out that a bungie guy referred to a Destiny 2. I can't remember the video but I found it on reddit somewhere. It was showing multiplayer on a new map (or at least one I hadn't seen but I do pve)

1 RespuestaI think after ten years of support that they should release part 2

2 RespuestasMeh, I'm not feeling it. I see what you're saying I just idk about it
