A "theater mode" is a video game option (generously added to video games by developers) to record your in-game data to a file, so that you can retrieve that data of everyone who participated in an event and play it back as a movie from any persons point of view, any angle, at multiple speeds, setting up your point of view anywhere you want with the ability to pause, fast forward, rewind and take screenshots. it's like in Halo 3 or the Call of Duty games where it records your gameplay and you can go in and edit it locally but it has all the angles, you can see it from all players perspectives etc.
