Buying timed exclusives like Tomb Raider will be an ongoing trend for MS this gen. Phil Spencer is out to prove that Xbox is all about games. When he said, "I'm in it to win it" I believe him and putting down cash to secure 6 months or a year on Xbox only is a big play. Now, whether or not purchasing content that is timed is going "win" anything for Xbox remains to be seen, but it's definitely a perk for Xbox players. I myself don't agree with this tactic, but I do like the aggressive approach that Phil Spencer is taking to show people that Xbox is about games. From the reveal until now, Phil Spencer has changed the face of Xbox One. Although it sucks for people that play ps4 only, I have to say...well played Xboss, well played. Expect to see this from both Sony and MS this gen, but more so from MS. Also, if you are the type to sign petitions aimed at Crystal Dynamics and demanding the game for PS4...don't waste your time. There is only on signature they are concerned about. And that's the one on the check signed by MS. Again, I don't care for moves like this, but at the end of the day it's business. Phil, if your in it to win it, you better keep throwing some punches...PS4 is a beast. Proud to own both.
My, my, my...seems I struck a nerve. Most of you are missing the point. If you agree or not , one thing is for sure, MS is being very aggressive. The Xbox gamer wins and ps4 wins becaue you know Sony will counter back. Who cares about sales numbers. Lol.

19 RespuestasDon't forget; in September, Microsoft will start selling the One in 21 additional markets. One of those is China. This will finally bring them to an equal status with the number of markets that Sony is selling the PS4 in. Now both consoles run the same games at the same quality, are priced the same, ad will be offered in the same number of markets. The sales should even out after that.

3 RespuestasImagine what would have happened with Bungie had Spencer been in charge. Think Destiny might be exclusive for a short period of time? Or would MS published it similar to how they did Titanfall? I'm a XBox'r, but if Sony plays this game I won't hesitate to get a PS4 to own some exclusives.

4 RespuestasIf they were really about games, they would create some new IPs instead of locking players out of multiplat titles.

Editado por Vgnut: 8/15/2014 5:23:23 AMI don't see it becoming an oncoming trend though. The install bases grow to such an extent that it becomes too costly for Microsoft to cover third party publisher's lost sales. Early last gen we went from there being some third party exclusives here and there to virtually none by the end. Here's the other troublesome scenario Microsoft could run into: Sony is winning. Winning makes these companies complacent and more iron fisted. If Sony sees a trend here they could easily adopt the kind of policy Microsoft did with indies and say "If you release your game on Xbox One first then you cannot ever release on PS4"

Editado por TheThunderDumpling: 8/15/2014 2:49:08 AMWell, sales really don't matter anymore. It's sadly "too little too late" for XBox to turn around sales anytime soon, but they can make up ground in the long haul, as long as they keep good games coming. I've liked what I have seen from XBox, since the restructuring after the XBOne launch. If only he was in charge earlier, XBox might be competing better. I don't dig the exclusivity. I feel it hurts franchises, but from the XBox perspective, if it moves more units, and increases the install base, it's worth it, even at the cost of the franchise.

2 RespuestasYou can't win with tv and timed exclusives. LOL

11 RespuestasEditado por BannedLemön: 8/14/2014 10:12:30 PMTaking value away from another console and restricting content to give the illusion of added value to your own console is not how you win. You "win" with good marketing and actual exclusive games.

24 Respuestas-Microsoft announces sharing games without owning them and they get flamed -Sony announces sharing games without owning them and they get praised as the second coming of Jesus. You -blam!-tards the lot of you.

14 RespuestasToo bad Sony don't have any money to do the same thing.
-
Well he definitely needs to be aggressive. I mean, 10 million PS4s sold vs. the Xbox's 3 million. They've got big catching up to do.
-
I cant wait for them to announce how many time exclusives they have shipped...Although phil was the better man for the job

2 RespuestasOf course he is. Why wouldn't he be?

11 RespuestasHogging exclusives that were once multi-plat doesn't win any favors with me.

Timed exclusives are meh. Ps4 still gets the game just might hsvr to wait longer. That certainly wouldnt make me run out and buy an xbox.

15 Respuestas"In it to win it"? Seriously? Xbox One is losing. I thought he was perfectly content with playing catch-up, but no he wants to win?? Well, isn't he going to be sorely disappointed, eh??

10 RespuestasAll he's doing is angering gamers and giving fan boys ammo to keep punishing each other and neutral players with continued abuse fostered in the console wars. A timed multi-plat title exclusive isn't something that's going to make me buy a XB1. Tomb Raider wasn't even a game I had any interest in when purchasing a PS4, even now I could careless about it other than it being indicative of a industry wide issue that effects all gamers. MS lost me day one on the E3 2013 conference. It's not the specs or frame rates. It wasn't exclusive titles for or against. It was Don Mattricks and his smarmy attitude selling a product to his Golf buddies while shoving the Kinnect and the big brother policies on me the gamer who supported MS for four years on XBL. Phil Spencer could march a thousand painful exclusives across IGN and Game Informer and I still wouldn't buy an XB1. I'd just sink my money into a PC or a Wave Runner. Out of all the exclusives shown by MS in the Gamescon conference the only one that made me annoyed was Space Engineers. Everything else...oh well. Not that interesting. Tomb Raider was just a slap at the Sony players on the Ps3. Gamers who own the Ps4 are largely 360 users who probably share in my disgust with MS and its views of gamer punishment and are only seeing MS acting desperate.

6 RespuestasEditado por SquattingTurtle: 8/14/2014 7:16:48 AMPs4 already won the popularity contest, not much they can do now unfortunately, aside from giving away free xboxes.

8 Respuestas>"in it to win it" >spends a good fortune on a "timed exclusive" that will move less than 100 consoles I guess if he says so.

2 RespuestasTimed exclusives don't get people to buy a console. They just piss everyone off

1 Respuestai find it funny how he said exclusive to xbox, when sony have been saying coming first to ps. Phil should of said coming first to the bone
-
This is a "timed " move for Phil. He knows he doesn't have enough first party studios. The ones he does have only 2 are coming with games by 2015 with only 3 extra exclusives. This is a move to show he is trying while buying a little time to hopefully get more studios in place. In Phil I trust!

Space Engineers will be exclusive to the Xbox One for a year. Hopefully they'll greatly improve the PC version

Editado por KingKrown: 8/14/2014 8:37:05 AMThey should Keep Platinum Games & Insomniac under their wing if they can get a good relationship/partnership going, Fund them and start cranking out New IP's. Bring back some old IPs yea those IP's, Original Xbox titles. They already started this path with Battlefront, Phantom Dust and Panzer(though it was bad). They had a handful of popular Xbox Original IP's fan's enjoyed, Star Wars: KOTR,Beyond Good and Evil,JSRF,Mech Assasult,Glitch In the system, Psychonauts,Jade Empire,Otogi, Hell even Brute Force(which I enjoyed) could be a great unique 3rd person shooter with a reboot and some tweaks, polish and the right dev team. I would say maybe try to get Timesplitters(once was exclusive) back, but I don't know how the game would hold up with the abundance of 1st person shooters these days. ..lol They could give Blinx to Insomniac....people would just rip that apart,never-mind ...Anyhow just my 2 cents. New IPs & A Few Old Favorites.

They should lower their expectations. It will be a struggle to even outsell Wii U.
