I've decided to join the PC master race.
The one and only problem being that I know nothing about how to build a decent gaming PC, and I could use some help with it. The first question that I need answered is, "What's a reasonable budget?". I would like to spend as little as possible while still being able to run most games without issues.

You making your own budget makes things easier for us. I ended up spending about $1,700 on my rig and I just got into PC gaming.

I built one for about $600-$700, but I barely use it (was supposed to be a gift for my significant other until we broke up when all that was left was the operating system). I don't play PC very much, doesn't feel right in my hands. But it runs fairly good. My cousin, however, is very into this kind of stuff and he often uses PC Part Picker to plan out his builds. There's also people who post their own builds along with the list of parts they used. Just a suggestion, but I find the site very helpful for building a PC.

I believe there was an article on game spot on how to build a good pc for around 500 and it runs most games smoothly on ultra can't find it now but have a look it has all the hardware listed
