I was just looking up a bunch of stuff on the size of Destiny, particularly the explorable zones, and I thought of this:
What if Bungie purposefully lead us to believe that all the explorable zones are only "decently" sized to lure us away from the possibility that they're huge?
We all know that there were certain blocked off areas of the beta that were intentionally blocked off so we don't go exploring all of Old Russia, but what if there's A LOT more to explore behind those blocked off areas?
My theory is Bungie is making the explorable areas look small at first glance, but when the full game comes out and we see the areas for the zones, they're going to be maybe double or triple the size of what we seen in the beta.
I'm not too sure how plausible this theory is, but I just thought I'd say it. Do you guys think this theory sounds like it could be possible?

Something tells me they planned on having a lot more, but then Activision stuck it's big nose in it and forced them to hold off content for dlc. Because thinking back so many more areas were discussed very early in the development process.

1 RespuestaDestiny is as big as my D ...
-
Destiny may not seem like much at first, but once you get things going it gets HUGE. Like at least 12 inches.
-
1 RespuestaWell that would be like anti-marketing.
-
doesn't seem like thats very likely with the map we were shown of earth, seems like thats pretty much it least for old russia
-
Lets just settle down until we see the playable areas in the full game (Mars, the Moon, Venus), bungie could have a few tricks up their sleeves

First off I think what we saw in Beta was great. I never really felt like I ran out of things to do. I never felt forced out or bored even in lower level areas but that could have been the MMO player in me. I just felt I could easily have been level 10 or 12 before leaving Russia as it stood which is fine for now with 3 more planets to move on to at higher level. Wasn't anyone else impressed how they had you running almost the same maps backwards and forwards but most areas still felt new? I say that's better than walking east for 20 minutes only to find a randomly placed hermit shack unrelated to the story like most open world games. As far as map sizes or locations yes the facts were already stated. We saw 75% of Old Russia and it was the only nonPVP map on Earth. For now or forever? No one said? With expansion cities that don't connect even the older game systems could handle endless maps linked by destination options offered after picking your planet (just like you pick PVP zones/types after picking the crucible). Who really cares if you can't swim from Russia to Alaska as long as you had options to fast travel to the largest cities on each planet. No one said that wasn't or couldn't happen. But maybe just not at launch to avoid people grinding the entire game out after a non-stop sleepless week of stale chips and semi-frozen burritos. The real question is what would be the point of new maps since it really only takes a few hours to complete a Planets storyline? Level cap raises? New high end weapons? New subclasses? Different lockable class options such as a quest for a different grenade skill tree? Options are pretty much endless or maybe about 10 years worth of options? I'm certainly not seeing any reason to start hoping for Destiny 2 before 1 releases.

1 RespuestaI gave myself no exaggerated expectations of the game, thus the Beta I found amazing.

8 RespuestasThere will be more to explore, in dlc. Lots of dlc, paying more money for what should've been in the final game.
-
2 RespuestasI'm actually starting to think we will be disappointed
-
2 RespuestasThis is a 10-year series. If bungie over hypes and doesn't deliver. It may be over quickly. Much like titanfall
-
op you got it backwards. bungie has told us how huge the maps will be and they lied their ass off. the maps are not big at all. just path ways that lead to some small open areas. sorry destiny let me down on this one. big time!

6 RespuestasEditado por C0mb0 king: 8/13/2014 4:16:45 AMDestiny is also on xbox 360/ps3 so huge maps are not gonna happen, atleast for now or until next gen console exclusive dlc
-
1 RespuestaThey announced that we were able to explore approximately 75% of old russia
-
Well, if the grotto is any indication, you might be onto a little something. I can only hope Zeiroh, I can only hope.
-
2 RespuestasDoubtful. With the sparrow it only takes a few minutes to cover the entirety of the old Russia map. The only "Outside area" we haven't seen is kings watch and it's subarea the blast. There may be a few more confined areas such as the vault but that sums it up. Bungies maps look to have been designed to "feel big" rather than actually have notable land mass. This doesn't mean there couldn't be plenty to do. Honestly the level of interactivity of the maps concerns me more than the size of the land mass. Other than enemy action it became a very dull and overly repetitive place to explore. My concerns grew even more transitioning from alpha to beta.
-
2 RespuestasI believe it. Bungie has said several times stuff like, "trust us come 9/9 were gonna blow your minds." They're not the type for mislead hype.
-
No no no Activision publishes this game.....more area to explore less dlc to be made easily with means less profit
-
Im hopin they just walled off a huge chunk of the explorable space for the beta. However I never had it in my head that it would be the size of multiple skyrim maps or anything, so I'll enjoy it either way. Was kind of dumb to say you can go to whatever you can see though. Clearly not the case. That being said, developers/publishers always overhype their games.
-
22 RespuestasThere is an other two places on Earth just as big as Old Russia, so your answer is yes.
-
I'm not holding my breath.
-
3 RespuestasDestiny 2 though..gonna be huge cause theres no doubt it'll only be on current gen systems. After 3 years of not moving on, it's your own fault at that point :/
-
I don't think so. A lot of people criticized them for it, they would have most likely addressed it if the worlds were much bigger. I think they'll be bigger but not by much.
-
2 RespuestasWell for anyone that got in on the few hours that the moon was open and actually explored it (and didn't just do the mission), you would have seen that place was pretty damned big, and Bungie did state that the moon was their smallest location...
-
Sounds like a fantasy to me. But I suppose anything's possible at this point.
-
I'm pretty enthusiastic, obviously their you can go anywhere you see statement was a little over zealous, but knowing they had that mindset when they started making this game makes me believe we didn't even scratch the surface of explorable area.
