So I was just watching Microsoft's press conference at GamesCom.
And what did just happen. Well Rise of the Tomb Raider is a Xbox exlcusive game.... Wait what?
So you're saying that the game that sold more on Playstation is now a Xbox exclusive game?
Weird right?
Now let me quote Silellak from Arstechinca.com.
I can understand why some people feel betrayed, as I think there’s a difference between securing a brand-new IP like Sunset Overdrive, and making the sequel of a successful multi-platform game (a game which, apparently, sold better on the PlayStation) available exclusively on the Xbox. At the end of that day, though, that’s business, and Crystal Dynamics must have been written a pretty huge check to both make the game exclusive and potentially alienate any number of fans. It’s a gamble and it’ll be interesting to see if it pays off in the long run.
For some reason, this quote from their tumblr post just makes things worse:

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.
Pretty sure that’s exactly what it means, but hey, business is business. Hope that’s a pretty big check. It seems like an especially weird business decision, though, given that the last Tomb Raider game sold better on PlayStation systems, but I guess Microsoft can write some pretty huge checks.
Either way, I guess Winter 2015 is going to boil down to Uncharted vs. Tomb Raider, and I know who gets my money in that equation
Your thoughts?

Exclusives suck, no one wins

3 RespuestasI don't think I've ever played a Tomb Raider game. As a 360 owner I didn't buy the PS4 for Tomb Raider. So I guess only the real fans of this game will suffer Microsoft doing what Microsoft does best in ticking players off.

Editado por Vgnut: 8/12/2014 5:34:23 PMIt is a bit puzzling that Square Enix made a big deal out of Tomb Raider not selling enough and is now making the sequel exclusive to Xbox One. This ensures it will sell considerably less than its predecessor. Even when it eventually comes to PS4 and PC. Must have been a big money hat.
-
Its a timed exclusive it seems.
-
2 Respuestasbuy an xbox one? That's business for you.

I feel that with the money MS has they should do this a lot more often. There would be little competition at that point.
-
This the equivalent of making Persona 5 an Xbox exclusive.
-
I don't really react to such news anymore. Devs/pubs make their choice. Being money hatted to exclusivity worked out real well for respawn......................................................
-
Microsoft must have paid SquareEnix a poop-ton of money given their unrealistic sales expectations of the past.
-
Microsoft must have given Square a whole barge full of money to have them cut their market for their game by more than half. And now the Xbox One gets another exclusive that's comprised entirely of QTEs.

1 RespuestaThat's unfortunate. I wonder what their deal for exclusivity was... must have been quite the sweet pot. But they still say there's a Tomb Raider game coming this year? So maybe this is just a side game so it isn't a big deal? I don't know anything about it so that's just a guess, though.

1 RespuestaAt least I'll actually be getting a One eventually...

5 RespuestasIt's interesting, as an Xbox player I was very surprised by this decision, Tomb Raider started on PS1 I feel like that's -blam!-ed up considering their history
-
The thing is, why would you want to make your game exclusive when you made such a successful multiplatform game. The money ofcourse. But still, don't they have a form of pride, love for their fans? Apparently not.

It makes sense what Microsoft did and cut off the competition from getting a game and was smart. Money talks!

Sony is paying From Software to make an exclusive for them. (From Software made the Dark Souls series and will be making a game similar for their exclusive.) It's a two lane highway, and both companies are using it.

That's just the way business works.
