I still don't understand why do they have extension packs before the game even comes out. Like why can't they just include it and try to save gamers a little money. The game itself is like $70 but the expansion pack is around $34 like lately I've noticed it's a trend in games to be doing this lately. what happened to "selling whole games"? For example battlefield 4 game is full of expansion packs, they are just asking for gamers to go into boycott. Honestly I have mad respect for rockstar they actually give their updates for free take for example GTA5 the only thing you purchase is money and in midnight club games they actually give you extra content forFREE ! They give you your money's worth but seriously us gamers need to actually work together bc games are getting expensive and then companies are starting selling you the game and content apart. Bungie don't let gamers down and follow that route.

  • Expansion packs cost money because expansion blacks cost money to make. It called capitalism, well come to murica. Rock star is makeimg so much money on GTA V they can afford to send free updates. And because of those free updates more consumers are attracted to the game. Not like the updates are big too. Small cheap updates=attention to game=PROFIT. it's a good marketing technique by rock star but a bit risky because it depends on the success of the game.

  • Yes I understand that extra value for expansion pack bc it obviously costs money but I'm sure the expansion packs should've been released after the game itself. But I understand

  • There are no expansions ready for release. What's for sale is a season pass for the first 2 expansion packs. Basically if you buy the expansion pass you get both for the price of one. If you buy the limited edition it's an even bigger savings because of the extras + the expansion pass for only $40 more.

  • Well, micro transactions are actually the new trend. Console games and mobile games have all started using them. I would much rather pay a bigger amount for a decent amount of content then having a bunch of little crap constantly. That and Sony and Activision invested a butt load of money into this game series, and I want them to make enough to convince their investors to keep investing. So I'm happy to pay more for later content.

  • You want this to turn into Duke Nukem Forever? They have likely started those expansions but I doubt they are anywhere close to being done. So would you want them to delay the game for another whole year and during that time have them come up with even more content to add and then by your logic they would have to delay the release again?

  • I think it's great for game makers to provide all different entry levels so more people can play ... But personally I love that there is a game like this finally that I won't have to leave and wait years for a new one ... It will always evolve into something different each time you play !!! { How about thinking about what you have ... And how lucky you are to have it !!}

  • Honestly man.. If you want it at the beginning just put out for the Limited Edition at launch. I mean it's all a choice.. You don't have to play Destiny. No one is making you. But if you're investing $70 at launch you're buying in to the Destiny universe. I, and many others believe that $100 is nothing for the hours of gaming you're gonna get out of this game.

  • Funny, I don't hear anyone complaining when WoW charges for expansion packs. This game is an MMO-FPS. You're trying to compare it to GTAV. All R* releases is new cars and guns. They haven't released ONE OUNCE of new content since the game dropped. We're still waiting for the much-promised online heists. When the expansions for Destiny hit, they are going to have new worlds and new missions. That's worth money. I don't see anyone complaining to Blizzard that they paid $50 for WoW 10 years ago so they deserve all the new content for free. Stop acting like a spoiled brat and realize that this isn't just any game. Bungie is creating a platform that we will play for years to come. Stop expecting everything for free.

  • I'm not expecting the game for free but I'm just saying this simply bc it's been a trend in games lately. Right now bungie is doing good by having some different versions not that different from each other but I'm just crossing fingers that they don't start selling the game piece by piece.

  • You are missing my point. You are paying $60 (or whatever) for the content that comes on the disc. That is fair. Bungie has very clearly stated that they plan to work on Destiny for 10 years. What the expansion content is doing is saying "we are planning to keep building more content, even after the game releases. Would you like to preorder it?" Nothing more. This isn't something that's already done and they're selling to you "piece by piece" as you say. Again, going back to the World of Warcraft example, people were more than happy to pay Blizzard for the expansion packs; each one tangibly changed the game, gave you new content/missions/things to do, etc. You are basically saying "I paid my money, so I deserve to receive everything in the future for free." That isn't how things work. And again, you used GTAV as your example. They have added nothing to the game. Just new guns, clothes and cars. Buying GTAV now gets you the same content as if you bought it on day one. But if you look at GTA4, they released 2 expansions, both of which cost $20 each. So even using R* as an example, you are contradicting yourself.

    Add to this the fact that there is no ongoing subscription cost that you must pay to Bungie. It makes absolutely no sense to punish a developer for planning the lifecycle of their product before it ships. The difference, compared to most devs, is that they are being transparent about it. No sub, long-term transparency about updates and ongoing development... I think this deserves support from the player base rather than the opposite.
