Sorry to deflate your argument. The old vacuum tubes could be stressed with buildup of deposits on their cathodes, but semiconductors and integrated circuits don't have that problem. There is no damage being done to your system even though that system may be becoming outdated with speed problems associated with program requirements and system capabilities. That is not an issue in this case. Bungie is doing a fine job of program design.

Well.... since I'm always the won to comment on weird and irrelevant edge cases, I'd just like to point out that if there's something defective with whatever failsafes your console has to keep it from damaging itself through overheating, then you could cause permanent heat damage by stressing your system too much.... I mean I did say it was weird and irrelevant.
-
Not irrelevant at all. You are correct. Excessive heat will cause a semi-conductor to go into thermal runaway and that is damaging to the system. The heat is caused by the processing required of the system, the console. A well balanced program requires the server to do its fair share of the processing, thus preserving the console. Much of the lag you experience playing other games is due to software design and how much processing is required of the console coupled with a server that is insufficient to handle the load being placed upon it by an overwhelming number of systems accessing it. Beta testing...Bungie is doing a fine job.

Are they really doing that much on the servers nowadays? I mean I know it's been something getting more popular, and obviously in something like destiny you need to have the everyone going through the server for the consistency of the shared space, but I would tend to assume most of the processing (ai and gfx, i suppose is most of what you gotta calculate these days) just happens on the box, then again, I could easily see ai for a shared space coming through from the server... I guess it's all possible, I just obviously don't know how Bungie's doing things on the tech side.... someday....

It is not difficult to realize that much software is used to run the servers. You can't just sign into a blank server and run millions of systems on that. Your system is not the one that tracks the location of each and every console in the game. Your individual system is also not necessarily the source of the drop assignments or re-spawning of the enemy. If that was the case you would already have the requirements of a stand alone private game. It would also make the task of implementing on-the-fly changes to the game during Beta testing a truly daunting one, since those changes would have to be made to each and every console. Be careful not to confuse modem (or router) with server.

I think you might be confusing me as someone who is being confused. I guess I took it as a given that a lot of things are handled on the server, like, obviously things like public events and vendor inventories need to come from the server, by their very nature, and I understand it is possible to do all of the computations of a game serverside and just pipe audio/video back to the client.. Anyway my point is that I would kinda assume things like all of the graphics rendering and a fair bit of other miscellany is being handled by my console, but as I said above, the whole game could run on the server, I just don't entirely know how it's all divided up, b/c I don't have access to the source code (and if I did, I doubt I"d bother reading through what would have to be many hundreds of thousands of lines of code, at the least).

Great comment sir. Good to know someone knows what they are talking about.

You have no idea what you're talking about troll.
-
You really don't have any idea what you are talking about.
-
He was completely logical and well spoken. How is he a troll?

Oh, but I do know what I am talking about, young man. You see, I am a retired electronics technician with 35 years of experience in numerous areas of the industry. I also know when someone responds only to keep strife going. Enjoy your day. Destiny comes.
