Should I buy an Xbone with the Kinect?

I don't have TV so I wouldn't be watching it and I have the extra money to get it. Is it worth it?

  • If you never used the first one you won't miss anything with the second iteration. Save yourself 100 bucks and buy some games or a headset adapter instead.

  • It's nice for pausing/playing videos when your controller is off, that's about it, but it is a great feature

        • Unless you plan on gettin' down on your awkward white self in one of those half-assed dancing games, I can't say I'd recommend it. I don't use it much, unless I want to watch something on Netflix but I don't wanna get out of bed. Just get the XBox without the Kinect, buy a good game, and order yourself a couple pizzas.

        • I know I already posted in this threa, but listen here OP: majority of people who say they love their kinect are just in denial because they got shafted when Microsoft dropped the Kinect. 3 friends of mine say they regret not waiting for the kinect-less bundle. I've used kinect previously. It's not worth a hundred bucks.

        • I like it. If I had the choice I would've gotten the Kinect-less version, though. It's good for when I want to get in bed and watch Netflix.

        • Its handy if you know how to use it. But im not sure if its really worth 100 dollars. Depends on the games you play. Though now that its optional, it might be best not to get it since no company is going to utilize it.

        • although they have not justified the extra $100 yet, i believe they will. i love my kinect..voice commands are great and legit. its a very nice piece of hardware that hasnt really proven itself yet. but it is still early in the console generation. voice commands are great and im sure kinect will be heavily used with the vr peripherals that will inevitably be out soon. imo, i want the whole xp and in the long run, it will be worth the xtra cash.

        • You can always get the One with Titanfall Bundle ($500) if thats a game you're interested in playing. $400 for the kinect less One + $60 for Titanfall = $460 for 40 extra bucks you can get the whole package. if in the future they do decide to sell the kinect alone, that will cost you $100. Might as well get it for the deal

          • Everyone thinks the kinect is stupid and worthless but I personally love mine. Ill probably never buy a game for it but just being able to use all of my media just by speaking is very handy and is just simple. I can go to Netflix to my games to YouTube and back just by speaking. Really handy when I can't find my controller. Give it a chance, it's worth the extra hundred bucks.

Do it. The Xbox one without the kinect is nothing more than an upgraded 360. I refuse and i mean REFUSE to play games on my friends Xbox without the kinect because you can't say "Xbox Record that" and I capture ALOT of pretty badass moments. You can even go into the youtube app and upload all of your clips from there pretty conveniently. I had 30 youtube videos before this ability, and now I have 100+ videos. (and over 300 recorded clips) You can record without kinect but it is very inconvenient as you have to back out of your game manually snap and do it that way, pausing you and most likely getting you killed. The dashboard in general seems to be designed around the kinect, so voice commands will make your life 10x easier. However a proper kinect setup is required for it to work at it's finest. Keep it away from walls, on hard floors, or anything that creates echoes, and calibrate it with your TV turned up so that it will listen better, mine works 90% of the time but i've seen much worse. It takes times to get used to the voice commands and you will fail them alot at first - it takes patience. If that didn't seal the deal for you, mayhaps this will.
I have not had batteries in my TV remote in almost half a year, thanks to the kinect.
Sync the TV up with your xbox (even if you won't watch tv on it or have it setup it will still communicate) Voice commands such as - Xbox volume up/down/mute will be enabled and they are pretty god dam useful. You can even select how much your tv turns up/down in the troubleshooter. My most used voice commands - Xbox record that - Xbox sign in as --- - Xbox On/Turn off - Xbox volume up/down/mute - Xbox go to --- (Mostly a digital game, they are pretty awesome cause i can surf from game to game without needing to find discs or change them out) - Xbox watch TV - Xbox Call ---- (Via Skype) - Xbox snap ---- (Mostly party) Some games have a neat integration with it. Battlefield 4 is the biggest example I have. It lets you lean left and right which is pretty neat - the voice commands seem unresponsive for that game, however. Ryse also has simple in-game voice commands that never failed to hear me once thoughout the entire campaign(which was very impressive, kinect) and unfortunately that's about the only 2 examples I really know of, more games that have it integrated would be nice.

              • I didn't think I'd use the voice commands as much as I do lol. They're pretty useful when they work properly. Sometimes the Kinect ignores me unless I speak in a very stern and loud voice, which can get frustrating at times. It's super fun to not have to reach for the remote to do certain things like Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, App switching, snapping, recording gameplay, and just turning it off/on. The facial recognition for signing-in is pretty cool, but if your the only person who's gonna use the console you can just set your account to auto-sign in anyway. Personally I like having the extra features, but it's not a giant loss if all you really want is to just sit down with a controller and play games. It's features are mostly useful on the entertainment side of the X1. The most useful thing it has to offer in terms of actual gaming is saying "Xbox, Record That" and have it save your last 30 seconds of gameplay automatically without having to pause your game or navigate through any menus. It's pretty great to just say it and be done with it and have the clip of your game without actually having to stop playing to do it.

              • If you can get it... Do so. I can see why some would want to buy the console for cheaper without. But it really does add something you never thought youd get from it. It recognizes you as you sit down and auto signs in. Or signs in when you enter the room. I can say "Xbox sign in as Dustin" and it works. I didn't even have to teach it my name. It works off your profiles info. I thought that was cool. So you don't have to select a profile manually. I can turn it on, sign in, and direct it where to go without even touching anything. Or pickup where I left off on Netflix. That's handy for when cleaning, busy eating, or just waking up and not even on the couch yet. If you want to try streaming gameplay on Twitch, it works as a face cam and mic.
but if you're game chatting, use the damn headset!
Girlfriend and I like to watch shows while we eat. Don't need to put plate down or wipe hands off when you can just say "Xbox pause". Useful for when you get a phone call too. Rather than find the controller and turn that on, just to hit the A button to pause.

              • Ehh. I like it, but really, it doesn't make that much of a difference. I'd go with the Kinectless SKU if I were you, just for the $100 savings.

              • From what I've heard it's leaps and bounds ahead of the 360's Kinect. Apparently it really streamlines the console.

              • The Kinect makes the console. I adore mine. I have come to be actively frustrated at my computer and other television because when I am across the room or cooking something, I can't just tell those two things to do things. It has become such a habit to just go 'Xbox On. Xbox sign in as burritosenior. Xbox go to Netflix. Profile 1. Select 1.' Boom. From start to finish it takes me around 20 seconds, and I never even have to look away from what I'm doing. It's just incredibly convenient. And when I'm moving around? 'Xbox pause.' That kind of thing. Then there is the ability to go anywhere on the dashboard in one command, recording... there are so many nice things. I cannot recommend the Xbox One without the Kinect- you might as well get a PS4 at that point. But with the Kinect? A mighty purchase.
