Does halo 4 really feel like a halo game?
So for the past couple of days I've been discussing with friend of mine about the beginning of halo to the new halo 4 and soon to be released halo 2 anniversary but one problem we seemed to have is the opinion of halo 4
Now I for likes halo 4 I am a bungie fan yes but i also don't mind 343 that much (despite them taking the name of the holy oracle) and I believe that halo 4 was good especially with campaign due to the interesting plot an dialogue of chief with the characters within the story but I will admit I was disappointed with the lack of interaction of the Didact.
Multiplayer wise people have criticise the gameplay now I will admit there are some issues with it but the it is true that some aspects of gameplay were changed before this in halo reach (not meant as a insult just an observation)
The main disappointment was forge for obvious reasons that many other people can and have explained better than
But otherwise the question remains is halo 4 worth all the criticism it receives? In my opinion no as many games have faults to them (except halo 3) but are not criticise due to being protected by nostalgia and therefore are treated as if there are no issues with it
However! ( notice I am empathising this so please think before you comment ) some criticism is back up by a lot of fact and I believe is true but I'm holding out in hopes they will improve anyways I wish the fans of halo Bungie and 343 alike to discuss your opinions on the topic. P.S I'd like to make a request that we keep this discussion civil, non violent, that criticism is constructive and meaning and last of all respect the opinions of others as we are all fans of halo and should treat others of the beautiful art as family so comment below.

i did not mind the campaign but the multiplayer felt like cod and adding in sprinting was a mistake

I played it today and it just keeps freezing up. With people quiting every game. Thought Id try to fill in some time before destiny but it feels bad. Never liked it but I thought Id try again...

1 RespuestaI'm really upset with the lack of objective gametypes in matchmaking. There isnt even an Objective playlist. Noone votes for objective games when they appear. What happened to the community? Its easy to mindlessly shoot things but Objectives bring mor strategy to a game.

I liked Halo(CE, 2, 3) because it was an arena based shooter so everyone was equal at the start. Halo 4 however completed the transition Reach had started, converting Halo into a class based shooter. Unlike Reach, Halo 4 decided to add ordinance and personal ordinance giving anyone random power weapons and power ups. This destroyed the idea of "map control" and turned Halo into a mindless luck based shooter which ruined any sort of competitiveness in the game, knowing that at any point the other team can have anything at anytime.

1 RespuestaI wasn't a big fan of the campaign Multilayer was mediocre I don't really care about Forge that much Spartan Ops was stupid, I much prefer Fire Fight. However, I think the game was made well (graphics, sound, attention to detail, etc). So, I've come the the conclusion that [i]Halo 4 is a good game, just not necessarily the Halo game the community was hoping for and was therefore disappointed.[/i]

While this system was altered in Reach, 343 kept with it and elaborated on it with the armor abilities. I'm not saying they are bad, but sometimes unbalanced. Everything should have some form of counter or all should be on an even playing field from the get go. Map control and coordination of power weapons or items, like a jet pack, os, or promethean vision, should be what drives gameplay in the short run, your time in one specific game. In the long run, there should be rewards like ranks or armor for how well you manage to progress and perform. Not an accumulative thing like Reach, 4, or CoD, but like that of 2 or 3. Not saying 2 and 3 had the best system, but it sure was rewarding getting higher ranks after weeks of work.

Halo has a long-running style of gameplay and a large percentage of the Halo community has been following the game since day one. With each new Halo installment, it seems like it is straying further and further from it's equal-opportunity, arena multiplayer roots. Halo 4 is probably the most radical in straying from the original Halo formula because of it's Call of Duty-esque custom load outs. It even added sprint as a native ability rather than an equip-able armor ability like what was done in Halo: Reach. I think what a majority of Halo players want is a return to simplicity like Halo 2 and 3 offered. Sure adding new features keeps things fresh but fresh isn't always good. I believe that Halo 4 is criticized so harshly because it strays so far away from what Halo did well in the past that it plays like a completely different game. Different for the sake of being different doesn't yield good results.

it sure does. that is, if you take individual moments from the story. the emotional tone of the entire game is a bit of a mixup [though everything is indeed within the "halo" bounds].

While pinpointing an exact "Halo feel" is rather difficult, Halo 4 definitely lacks the "Bungie feel". Since the "Bungie feel" is largely associated with Halo, and consequently, the "Halo feel", Halo 4 just seemed lacking. When Bungie ceased production of the Halo series, with them went that "Halo feel" which everyone loves.
