apparently i'm selfish
...for not wanting to have kids. everyone keeps telling me i'll change my mind when i have my own. no thanks. i have no interest in birthing and raising a child, nor the stress and expenses associated with it.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much with what ignorant people say. Assuming they actually said you were selfish and you didn't add that in. In any case, I'm right there with you. The world has a lot of problems in a lot of places. I'd rather live a shorter more valuable life rather than have kids and not do anything but grow old. Perhaps, I will have kids some day though. I'm the only person to carry on the family name and with that comes a certain burden.

Not saying it will happen, just saying it's possible. Honestly before I had my son, I wasn't fond of most kids, and i'm still that way now, but when it's your own blood pumping through them, when you hear the first cry of your child when they're born...it really is something special. Or at least it felt that way to me.

The need or want to have kinds is not just a social or personal choice, its something hardwired into our DNA. It may not even be your choice, you may get a girl pregnant/get pregnant yourself, you may see a girl/boy who has her own kid and help raise that child, you never know what may happen.

How is that selfish? If anything you're being considerate by not contributing towards over-population. Maybe its because they just want to marvel at your baby's cuteness and call you selfish for denying them that.
