Kimberly Ray and Barry Beck -- hosts of Rochester, N.Y.'s Breakfast Buzz radio show on 98.9 The Buzz -- took to the air to discuss last week's announcement that the city of Rochester would now be offering trans-inclusive insurance policies to all city employees. What followed was an extraordinarily transphobic 12-minute segment.
Ray made a statement reinforcing the idea that transgender individuals are mentally ill, saying, "The service that will be paid for under the new coverage -- gender reassignment surgery, psychological counseling -- because you're probably a nutjob to begin with!"
The hosts went on to mock transgender women, saying, "The dude can look like a lady and the city is going to pay for it!" They followed this by playing a clip from Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady," making the same insensitive joke Fox News made last year.
The hosts then discussed an unconfirmed report that there is a transgender girl playing softball at a nearby school, repeatedly misgendering her, making jokes about genitals, and pushing debunked theories about whether or not trans athletes have a competitive advantage.
A woman called in to the show in an effort to correct the insensitivity of the segment, only to be repeatedly cut off and called "sir" as the radio team laughed along. They then ended the segment by again playing "Dude Looks Like a Lady."
Ray later doubled down on her statements via Twitter.
Freedom of Speech includes the freedom to offend others. You aren't granted a right to not be offended in this life #getoverit #ROC

Never listened to their station outside of being in the car with my Dad, but they've been well known for offending people. This was way over the top though.

That host deserves to be slapped and thrown into the pit of filth.
-
I feel sorry for those hosts, having to resort to low blows against trans people in order to garner publicity. It must be a hard life.
-
2 Respuestas"After discussing this with our superiors and the board, we are now terminating your contract effective immediately." "But muh freedoms" "#getoverit"

9 RespuestasAs a transfemale I think it's fair for me to say that radio host can go -blam!- himself. Life is hard enough without bigots spewing hatred all the time. I hope he loses his job.
-
Kimberly is entirely right, freedom of speech means you can offend whoever you want. It also means the radio station can fire your ass for spewing idiotic views that do not reflect the company she is working for.
-
6 RespuestasWhat is it with so many idiots committing career suicide lately? *How to lose your job and look like a total piece of shit human being in 12 easy steps!*
-
I'm a big fan of offensive humor, but he didn't even make a joke he just kind of said "I hate transgender people" on public broadcasting which is a pretty dick move.
-
2 RespuestasReported... Don't know why I don't have you muted on this account.

4 RespuestasOn the subject of free speech.
-
I don't exactly agree with their views, except for the gov't paying for the surgeries bit, but I think firing them was excessive. I hate how PC society is becoming.
-
5 RespuestasFreedom of speech I suppose, just as I have the right to declare all Americans as the sub-human filth that they are c:

He's just an asshole.

1 RespuestaThis country is going to shit. If that guy feels that way then he should be allowed to speak it without losing his job.
-
My main issue with transgenders are their attempts at winning beauty pageants. Beauty pageants were created for young WOMEN not men who THINK they are women. I don't care what you're brain "feels", it's what sex you actually are. The world doesn't revolve around anyone's feelings. Get over it.

5 RespuestasSo a business owner can't fire gays but you can fire someone for not liking gays blaming lol this -blam!-ing tyrant government is out of control
-
3 RespuestasThis is actually really mean though. :( why would they think this is cool? Even for a second. I'd have liked to see these pricks fired.
-
They have been known to offend people lol. So when a liberal calls the south rednecks it's not offending
-
I think transgenders are quite odd, but I wouldn't publicly speak about it on the damn radio. There's some stuff you just don't talk about in public.
-
Good troll, good troll. Lol/10

1 RespuestaI've never listened to these guys, but it seems they were pretty popular. Firing them is a terrible decision by the station. These dudes will have another job by the end of summer. I'll bet its higher paying as well.
-
2 RespuestasUpdate: After being suspended indefinitely yesterday, the radio station has officially fired both Kimberly and Beck.

1 RespuestaHahaha, silly people. Don't they know that freedom of speech only means the government can't sensor you? Your station is still privately owned and they can still respectfully disagree with you by firing your ass.
