A Destiny Dream Shattered

To say I'm looking forward to Destiny would be one of the greatest understatements of all time. I'm absolutely freaking PUMPED for it. But there's just one...big...problem. For the past 20 years or so, virtually all games have been tailored for 4-player co-op. Not just in split-screen play, but also for online play. Because of this, me and my friends formed up into a group of 4 diehard gamers to share our gaming experiences with. For the last 14 or so years, we've shared all of our gaming experiences together, especially when it comes to big flagship titles (Halo, Gears of War, Borderlands, Left 4 Dead, the list goes on and on). We've shared joy, excitement, frustration, and satisfaction. Together, as 4, always. So as news and videos and screenshots began to leak about Destiny, I giddily shared the tidbits of info with my friends, helping to build our shared anticipation as we awaited our chance to Become Legend together. As a unified group of 4, we would storm into Hellmouth and drive out the...wait, wait...what? WHAT?! THE MAX FIRETEAM SIZE IS THREE?!?!?!?! This news was simply DEVASTATING for us. Why would they limit co-op groups to 3 when virtually all games for the last TWENTY YEARS had established an industry standard of 4?!?! And better yet, how are we supposed to eliminate ONE PERSON from our long-standing group of four friends?!?! "Sorry buddy, I know we've played like every game EVER together, but it looks like you're gonna' have to be the odd man out for the next TEN YEARS." Seriously Bungie, this is a MAJOR problem. I'm sure there are many people who grew up with online matchmaking or don't play with friends and haven't even given a second thought to this. But I'm equally sure that there are other steadfast groups of four who are finding themselves in the same impossible predicament that we are. For a game that Bungie is so loudly and actively touting as a "social experience", this seems wildly counterintuitive. I know that there are game modes that will allow us to play together, such as skirmishes or patrols or raids. But that doesn't change the fact that we're going to have to shamefully oust one person from our group for the entire campaign and every single strike. It just feels WRONG, and I'm sure the unlucky person who gets ousted is going to feel almost as bad for being shunned as the other three will for having to shun their friend. This is just a terrible situation to find ourselves in, and it's one that I think Bungie is doing a terrible disservice to the community over. I'm sure there are reasons why Bungie wants to limit fireteams to three. Internal testing and game design and whatever else may have found that three is the optimal number, but the steadfast 14-year friendship I share with three of my best friends disagrees. Please Bungie, make this right. Please. EDIT: This post is over two months old. I assure you that "two teams of two", "just rotate", "just play by yourself", and any other brilliantly groundbreaking idea was not only already suggested, but already discussed between my friends and I before I ever even wrote this post. I wasn't looking for suggestions, I was pleading my case with Bungie.
