Besides people running away and using the excuse to retreat an rethink their approach. What could sprint seriously do to be considered beneficial in any means?

3 RespuestasEditado por Derp: 5/9/2014 5:59:46 AMIt lets you run fast. It's a very ingenious feature. So when you're running and it's taking a while, you activate sprint power and, like in real life, your character runs fast. It's like real life. Very ingenious decision. They definitely tried to attract the audience that loves realism. Very smart. Did i mention how ingenious it is? Edit: It's also ingenious (thanks to TigerTitan for pointing this out).

6 RespuestasIt forces players to adapt. Though sometimes it just makes them buttmad so they bitch constantly on the forum about their inability to adapt.
#ADAPT
2 RespuestasEditado por TyrannosaurusRex: 5/10/2014 2:29:38 AMIt doesn't. It allows you to get to places faster but that's neither good or bad. Edit: Also, this "real life" bullshit is bullshit. Halo is an arena shooter. Realism is not for Halo inside the games. Cutscenes, novels, movies, etc. is okay. Not the gameplay. Otherwise us Spartans would be running faster than horses, punching elites through the skull, and being superior in every way. Spartans are literally an army of Captain America's, without the shield but faster and stronger(Excluding plot shields and devices where Cap trumps all).

Good stuff in Halo: shooting people Bad stuff in Halo: not shooting people Sprinting lets you get places faster, so you can shoot people more. Pretty simple concept.

4 RespuestasWell, you know, it's in call of duty

I can run more faster

It allows me to retreat and rethink my approach.

9 RespuestasIt doesn't. It just changes (read ruins) the gameplay and map flow. Example: In Halo 3 someone approaching you with an energy sword would have to catch you off guard to kill you since you could shoot him while walking backwards at the same speed as he was walking towards you. In Reach and Halo 4 this isn't doable since he can sprint forwards faster than you can walk backwards.

9 RespuestasThe realism argument is so foolish. Spartans should be able to run up to 60kmh (if I recall correctly). The Sniper Rifle should be able to fire very rapidly. Spartans should be able to survive under water. Sprint is no different in this case.

Sprint allows players to reinforce an overrun position more quickly.

9 RespuestasBecause getting to Easter eggs easier, across the map faster, looking good in machinimas, lets players make a choice when being fired at, doesn't make the game look bland when racing/competing and just the actually fact that it makes sense helps a lot. In what way does it harm the gameplay?

57 RespuestasIt makes travel less tedious and enables players to quickly traverse the map, making combat better than ever.

It's like the Reach forum all over again...

2 RespuestasEditado por Siffera: 5/7/2014 9:28:15 PMAlready made a post here, but whatever. Sprint enables map flow to be disturbed, as well as ruining the integral structure of the maps themselves. Maps become more elongated. I'm looking at you Adrift. Sprint falsely perceives fast paced gameplay because the base movement speed is already too slow. And in an already elongated play space, it doesn't help when you don't sprint. In previous Halo games that didn't have sprint, you were able to get into engagements without long periods of waiting because the maps were made to fit a static base movement speed. Nothing had to be adjusted to fit an extra feature or two. Sprint rewards inefficiency because it allows players to quickly make their escape, causing an incredible merry-go-round because to catch up to the retreating player by sprinting yourself. By the time you catch up to them, their shields are already recharged. On maps like BTB, it just yet again makes the maps bigger. And with the inclusion of Long Range spawn weapons, it just ends up being a game of peek-a-boo.

3 RespuestasEditado por Halo2isduhBest: 5/7/2014 7:19:19 PMIt does not benefit Halo at all. Only casual scrubs will tell you it does. Sprint makes it impossible for 343 to make good small maps like Bungie did in halos 1-3. One of the main reasons why I couldn't stand Halo 4 was because nearly all the maps were large and none were small.

I don't like Sprint as a default setting. It is my number one complaint toward Halo 4. Firstly, Sprint forces developers to extend hallways and tunnels in order to give players room to actually use Sprint. As well as expand already open areas for the same reason. Obviously, this means cover and obstacles will be farther apart from one another to keep players from being too protected. Secondly, Sprint helps players to escape death when they realize they've made a mistake. Running away isn't bad, unless it's too common. When someone escapes me in Halo 3 or non-Sprint gametypes in Reach, I easily accept it and move on with the game because it doesn't happen too often. However, in Halo 4, it isn't unlikely to lose up to ten kills in a single game of Rumble Pit as many players prefer to flee from battle than attempt to continue fighting and aim, strafe, and use the (little amount of) cover to overcome the challenge.

Well for one, Sprint has better service than Verizon, ATT, Apple, and Amazon combined. The only VCR dealership that has them beat would be Virgin Mobile.

It doesn't.

1 RespuestaEditado por DroppedEP: 5/7/2014 12:44:18 PMWell sprint was something that I was shocked to see on Halo 4 when I bought it. My reaction was "Finally, I can sprint in Halo." It really bothered me that I couldn't sprint in Halo 3, and past games. Then I also realized that Reach had sprint. Another bonus there. Although, it is very different from Halo 4.

2 RespuestasMakes games a whole lot faster than just walking and being so slow.
-
2 RespuestasSpartans should be able to sprint, nuff said.

It's great in campaign though it should have an on/off switch for multiplayer.

On the face of it, sprint is a fine mechanic. Always give the player the option to move faster for a short amount of time at the expense of being able to fire or defend themselves. You can do a lot with that. That said, I think it was just tacked on to Halo 4 because that's what so many other shooters do these days... which is kind of sad. I don't really mind it so much. I hate Halo 4 for very different reasons, but you can't do much about it now.
