This is absolutely stunning.
Was that title a clever middle finger? As others have stated, I eagerly clicked thinking that the beta was finally here, and instead I read a heartlessly canned statement about the fact that an entire piece of the Bungie soul has been torn out and left on the floor. The title of this blog post, along with the shockingly cold statement is not only cold and cruel, it's damaging.
There is a very personal post below left by somebody who was clearly deeply influenced by the work of Marty O'Donnell. In it he says that this is the beginning of what eventually leads to the complete fracture of what was once a whole. I agree. He or she is absolutely correct. Mjolnir gave us the look of master chief. Steve Downes gave us his voice. Cortana made him interesting. Marty O'Donnell gave not only Master Chief, but all of Halo, it's soul.
I used to repeatedly watch the intro to the level "The Siege of Madrigal" because of the beautiful piano melody that whispered in the background in Myth: TFL. In Halo: CE, I used to fly the Banshee up to the Control Center and balance on a thin metal frame in the falling snow to listen to that beautiful sound. There is a magic there that Marty O'Donnell is responsible for. This and a thousand others like it are the moments that Marty has given us in his time with Bungie.
Like many others, the Halo and Myth soundtracks are the only video game soundtracks that I've ever purchased. To this day, I listen to these soundtracks while I navigate through my day at work.
Whether there was good reason or not for what has happened is really secondary to the much more depressing reality here. Bungie is no longer the Bungie that we've all followed here to this web page. Whether Destiny sells the way it's expected to or not, this reality remains. Bungie today is a Bungie without the man that crafted the very soul of our experiences within their games.
I agree that this has taken a lot of wind out of the sails that were propelling Destiny.
Who else is now completely soured by the thought of checking this website for beta news? Without any exaggeration, I can say wholeheartedly that my excitement for beta news has been permanently tainted with the complete T-bone blindside that I felt misled into receiving by the ridiculously poor choice of words in the title of this post.
Deej, for all your "clever" posts and "witty" paragraphs, you have really exposed a weak side to your ability to communicate. Not just in the weak, canned, and heartless announcement, but also in the misleading and cruel title.
What else is there to say. Words won't do justice to the sharp turn this path has taken. Where it leads will eventually be known, but when you boil it all down, the fact still remains that we've lost what once was.

I completely agree except for the deej part. He was just told from higher ups what to say. I can't even bring myself around to read about destiny right now. It's been tainted by what has happened with this b.s firing if the heart and soul of the music and influence in halo and bungie

It is tough to agree with you on everything. I whole-fully agree on the bits that don't involve attacking the post. But I can't hate on the guy who posted it. He is simply a person here to try and give the people what they want that that is some info or simply words from the source. It may not have been executed properly but he's just a guy like you and me. I can't be angry because of a post title. I've learned to much to let something like that bother to much although it does make it sting.

I address Deej specifically for a reason. While the post itself might simply be a canned statement, the title of this post is not. Whether it's an intentional jab at Marty, or an ignorant mistake, it shows a real disconnect from what the rest of us are going to be feeling when we read what follows. That's on him. I can think of many ways to express sadness that an icon has been let go. Even if we don't feel the sadness personally, understanding the community and the respect for this man and addressing the issue accordingly would have been a good idea. There was no attempt to bring that to the table, therefore, he holds some responsibility in the lack of concern for the community that has to absorb and process this, as outsiders looking in. It is no secret that many eager fans are coming here multiple times daily, looking for that beta announcement. Using a title that says "There are those who said this day would never come" doesn't take ESP to predict what people will be thinking or hoping for when they click that link. To use THAT line and then slap us with this has got to be a subtle middle finger. I cannot believe that Deej is THAT out of touch with the way written words are received. In his typical posts, he works pretty hard to show his "clever" side.

He did not intentionally make it so you would feel this way. He did not intentionally try to demean the anger of the community that this point and time. He simply was tasked with giving the statement and he did. I don't see a problem with the title whatsoever. I'm not so stupid as to think they would release the beta info just as someone so important was lost. I'm not so stupid to take offense for something he definitely didn't mean. If you really believe that he intentionally did it then god help you. People are just like everyone else and even though you claim him to be a crap community manager that still makes him a better one than you because it isn't you who gets paid to talk to us.

If you're gonna try to make a point, at least make sense. It's hard to post in response to what you're saying because you obviously cannot comprehend what it means to read between the lines, so to speak. I really don't care to spend a bunch of time trying to explain this to you. It's ironic that you start flinging insults and calling me stupid. That's something that stupid people do. What, are you afraid that if you speak your mind you won't get a beta code? You think they are gonna put your name in the little black book? Do you have Deej's name tattooed on you somewhere? Do you get a haircut just like his? Do you practice smiling like him in the mirror until you get it just right? You should watch the video for Ed Sheeran's "Lego House". You must be to Deej as Ron Weasley is to Ed. Straighten out your back when you walk. Close your mouth and try breathing through your nose.

In actuality you really just taken advantage of the rage of some community members to throw some hate towards someone (DeeJ) who doesn't deserve it. I called what you were doing stupid because it is stupid. I did not actively call you stupid but what you were doing is definite stupid. It's akin to hate-mongering and thats what you're doing. I don't think you completely understood a word of what I actually posted perhaps I'll reiterate for you. There was NO intention in his comment and like I said earlier he was most definitely tasked on the fly with a response to an angry community. I'm not in fear of beta codes or black books or anything of the like. I've been on these forums for way to long and have started plenty of shit in posts when i was a younger poster. I'm not in fear of what could happen because I know nothing will happen. You simply fail to realize that you are/were attacking a person that didn't deserve it and that puts you in the wrong. I can really try to get through to you in any other way. You claim that I can't read in between the lines but I understand what you were trying to point out and it seemed like far fetched bullshit. You say that the title may have led people to believe the beta was here and then hurt them with the bad news. Honestly the more you post the more unreasonable you seem. It's like all you want to do is rabble-rouse and that's why I don't like your posts. Trying to put fuel on a fire against DeeJ that shouldn't be there. So go read a book. Learn to view a dire situation from more than one angle because damn is your mid set on the fact thy the post was harmful. It's done so much more good than silence would have done. In my opinion if an individual is given a role that involves releasing information to the public, it is the job of that individual to deliver the message in a way that will be received in whatever light is chosen, and this is accomplished by the words chosen by this person (or people if more than one is responsible for writing these releases). It's the same as a politician delivering a speech. The words chosen will make the statement, and the message can be completely changed by this choice of words. This is something that you also clearly don't understand. Again, I'm not going to bother trying to explain this to you. It's beyond your scope of consideration, and you'll obviously just apply your fanboy bias to the situation regardless. You used up a lot of space to say "No he didn't!". Well, in my opinion, "Yes he did!". You speak for another individual as if you know the thought and purpose that went into the message. I have shared an opinion, and if you read it slow enough to comprehend (this is gonna be a different speed for everyone, yours is pretty darn slow) you'll see that what I've shared is my opinion on how the message was delivered (not literally, I know this might confuse you. By delivered I mean received by the individuals reading it... again, just read this slowly and take time to let it sink in, you'll eventually understand). What I'm sharing is my take on this, and what YOU are sharing is a bunch of defenses written in a factual form, as if you were present and discussed the wording of the title personally with the poster. Which of course you weren't. Which makes your response pretty ludicrous, because obviously you have no idea what factual thought went into the title, as you don't share minds with the poster. SO! Thanks for your factual information on why Deej chose the words that he did, but please forgive me if I dismiss your babble as blind fanboy fanaticism, since the "facts" that you're reporting are actually just your own speculation. Worded as facts.
