sperm donor for lesbian couple must pay child support
[i]The Kansas Department for Children and Families filed the case in October 2012, seeking to have Marotta declared the father of a child born to Jennifer Schreiner in 2009. The state’s objective was to hold Marotta responsible for about $6,000 in public assistance the state provided, as well as future child support.
Marotta opposed that action, saying he had contacted Schreiner and her partner at the time, Angela Bauer, in response to an ad they placed on Craigslist seeking a sperm donor. He said he signed a contract waiving his parental rights and responsibilities.
Attorneys for the state contended the contract was moot because the parties didn’t follow a 1994 Kansas law requiring a licensed physician to perform the artificial insemination when donors were involved.[/i]
So basically this guy tried to do a good thing and give a lesbian couple a baby but because the lesbian couple immediately went on welfare, the State of Kansas sued so that the sperm donor pays and not the tax payers.
Maybe, just thinking here, the lesbians shouldn't have had a baby if they couldn't afford to raise it? Just a thought.

29 RespuestasI think the bottom line is that you read up on the law. I'm not saying that this necessarily should be happening, but this is bureaucracy. On a side note, lesbian couples are in far worse danger of falling into poverty because they are 'double' affected by the gender wage gap, just as gay male couples make more on average than a straight couple.

Why birth a baby when there are hundreds waiting for adoption? Unless the state doesn't allow same sex couples to adopt this seems like the better alternative.
