King, developer and publisher of Candy Crush Saga, has managed to trademark the word "candy" when pertaining to video games. Ever since King got its hands on the commonly-used word, it has sent notices to Apple regarding multiple games that use the word "candy" in their title.
The Candy Crush dev argues that games that use Candy in their title can increase "the likelihood of confusion" in games like All Candy Casino Slots. However, developer Benny Hsu says that the claim is "ridiculous."
This is getting pretty dumb...

1 RespuestaNot as retarded when Bethesda was trying to sue some company for using "The" and "Scrolls"

I'm sorry OP, but I must order you to cease and desist the creation of (and/or maintenance of) internet threads/areas wherein dicussion can be held which explicitly make use of the word "candy" in their titles, immediately. You have 24 hours to comply or face legal action.

I hate when everyday items and words get trademarked...
-
Mannnn.... It's shit like this that makes ios gaming look worse and worse... Lol jk ios gaming still is better than all those crappy console games #IOS mustard rice In all seriousness though, don't let shit practices like this fool you, there are good legitimate games on ios, don't be a dumbass and deny it...

*proceeds to make a game with candy in it* *refuses to pay royalties to CC devs*

-blam!-ing Facebook and casual gamers. It's ridiculous that these shitty developers make so much money off these crappy games and now they've gotten so big that they've trademarked the word "candy"!? It's not a unique made up word, why the -blam!- were they allowed to do that?
-
Good thing I don't support them. They can go -blam!- themselves to high heaven.
-
Wow. That's just stupid.
-
It's literally a bejewled clone, and wtf is this bullshit?! You can't copy right a -blam!-ing word for that shit reason. Then Call of Duty should copy right "call" "of" and "duty". Or all the games with the word "the" in it's title would be confused with each other. I'd get it if somebody named their app "Candy Smash", and there is a copy right issue about that. But this is complete bullshit.
-
That is so silly.
-
I can understand created words, like when Lucas Arts trademarked "Droid," but this is ridiculous.
-
This is incredible I mean wtf
-
Yep I invite them to sue a major company not some little app game company a big franchise and see how far there trademark takes them. Or the could grow up. This ain't Star Wars

It's just a bejeweled clone

You see, there's an understanding part of me that says "Yeah, it would suck being a mobile developer who's profits are being split because people confuse someone else's candy puzzle game for your candy puzzle game, that's reasonable as long as they don't take it too far...", and then there's another part of me that says "Why in gods name are you making that game who's only key defining characteristic that needs to be protected is 'Candy'? Seriously?" The engineer and game designer inside of me leans towards option two.
-
They'll pay for this, mark my words.

Seriously?.....

Meanwhile in the world of business... people are still stupid.
