A bit of a mixture actually.
My bet is on a super ancient computer developed by an even more ancient species, powered by a collapsing star held in stasis.

That's a sweet idea. A neutron star at it's core, powering an ancient, in-comprehensively complex computer designed by a god-like super race. Its mission - to travel the universe helping lesser life forms rise up their level on the Kardashev Scale.
