(Here's my reading music) I agree that there are problems. I acknowledge your concerns. I just thought I'd let this unfold for a day before I entered the fray. Now that I'm out in the open, let's get into it. Forum Moderation needs improvement, and Achronos and I are working on that right this very moment. No, I won't give you a preview right now, but the Ninjas are itching for us to finish our work. They even helped us hatch those plans. I'll remind you what you wished for once it's granted (heh heh heh heh hah hah hah hah hahhhh). Private Groups need new features, and we have things brewing behind the scenes that will reinvent the social landscape of Bungie.net to truly compliment the playing of Destiny. This website serves the purpose of supporting our community. By its metaphorical nature, a community is a group of people that share a common passion. Our hope is that the game is what will unite you, which is why our planning is tied to Destiny. When you talk to us about Titles, you're really alluding to the act of becoming legend. Right? Who among you is a unique snowflake. This next game of ours is all about that. The closer we get to the game, the more you'll understand that. And, this time, you won't earn your stripes simply by avoiding the Banhammer. We'll expect greater things from you. That's what I have to offer for now. We acknowledge you. We listen to you. We work for you every day. We won't ask you to thank us for that. We do it because, as the OP tended to suggest is not true, Bungie loves its community. We love our community everywhere we find it, be it here or beyond. I will personally ask you to meet us halfway. The idea of community suggests a relationship that is deeper than vendor/customer. It suggests that we're in this together. We've given you the power to control your own experience. By and large, people have insisted they don't want to use them. We've relaxed the rules you've needed to follow to be here, and some of the abuses of that newfound freedom have been embarrassing. This community will be what you want it to be, as much as what we want it to be. We only build these halls. You fill them with noise. If your private group existed to circumvent the rules of this website, it would seem that those rules needed to be changed. We reserve the right to solve the problems as we see them. I see groups here that are still quite vibrant because they provide a unique service to their membership. People are expressing their enthusiasm for a game, and creating art, and writing fiction. The Bungie Community is not suffering a slow death. It's just changing - and rapidly at at that. If you haven't heard by now, the arrival of the Traveler will change everything. I can't tell you that being a member of this community will be easy. I can promise that we feel at Bungie as if we're in this together. More to come...

Somethimg tells me you've been working on this for a very long time.
Experience shows the premise in the OP is not correct, at least for bungie.net. So, we opt for simplification and clarity - most people already follow the rules anyway, and those that don't are often deliberately breaking them, not out of any confusion. So, let's make it easier for the "good" people to follow the rules, and not let those trying to find loopholes use the specifics of the old rules to plead their case. Hence, we get the way the rules are as of today.
Change which led to members being harassed off the site, which led to members conducting raids on other forums, and led to people posting nudes of themselves and a person using those nudes to blackmail members. Change is coming alright, we're on the fast track to becoming like 4chan with #offtopic being our /b/.

  • Absolutely. I don't find the website to be "slow as balls", and I'm not sitting around complaining about a website that's perfectly functional >>to me<< That said, I hope changes are made to appease those who are dissatisfied with the current state of Bungie.net.

  • It's "functional" in terms of buttons usually sending you where you want to go. There are many less features, it's slower than the last iteration, and as has been said hundreds of times already, groups got nuked. The changes will be too little, too late. Most of the good people have gone forever.

  • If I could ask, what features are missing that were imperative to your experience? Give me a list. Order them in terms of importance. Your outlook on the future of B.net feels somewhat nearsighted. I understand it's been a year, but eh. We've been here for how long? People come and go. They might even come back with a new game. By the time launch hits, you might get what you've been waiting for in terms of features as well.

  • I should also add that I am incredibly biased against this site. In my view, nuking a perfectly functional website to replace it with something like this is a bad idea. Doubly more so when it destroys the community that spent years supporting your company.

I'm probably not going to think of them all now, but will edit more in as I remember them. My focus is not on the website, but the community that used to dwell here. 1. Convenient Navigation -Right now reaching just about any page you want to see takes a minimum of 2-3 clicks. -Have to login every time you close the browser; it saves login details but it's still annoying. -Menus are all at the top corners of the screen. On a larger screen (26"+) it's a long ways off of anything you actually interact with. -The usable area of the website also doesn't change with screen size. On my current 28" screen, more than two thirds of the screen is blank space. Combined with the long length of pages, it really reduces the amount of content you can see on the screen at one time. 2. Useability -Completely impossible to follow a long discussion right now due to the completely random shuffling of posts in order of "popularity". Also doesn't tell you who someone replying to unless you hover over the left of the post. "Older First" also does -blam!- all to help since thread pages don't exist; you just keep scrolling down the page infinitely, and lord help you if you want to do this more than once. -PAGE. NUMBERS. As I mentioned, you can't follow a long discussion due to infinite scrolling/page extension. If you want to read old messages, it is literally impossible without spending dozens of minutes or even hours scrolling. -Preview box is -blam!-ing tiny. Seriously, you can view a paragraph and that's it with no option to increase size. 3. Groups -Not much I can say that hasn't been gone over dozens of times already. Functionality is mostly gone; stickies, mod powers beyond deleting, customization, etc. -Now that the rules in the mains are almost non-existent, much of the purpose for some of the largest is gone. The often thoughtful discussion e.g. Black Chapter has been replaced with trolling and ignorance outweighing the intelligent discussion. 4. Public Forums -These were once funny just to sit back and watch the stupidity, but right now they're cesspits of complaints, trolls, and sheer stupidity. Mods power are finally usable now, after a year. -The entire concept of hiding bad content seems like a bad idea. It doesn't go anywhere, and there is no incentive not to post drivel. The only difference is that if User B hides crap, everything User A posts from that point out no longer exists and, therefore, reduced content. Shitposts will still clog everything up but better users will have significantly less interaction since they've simply chosen to hide the bad. -Quoting is entirely useless now. If you quote someone, you have to manually add in the person you quoted since it's more than likely nobody will be able to see the post you quoted. 5. New Features -There are some here that have the potential to be good, but feels like they were half-assed then presumed done. Notifications: -Only shows the number of replies, likes, etc. to any given post and links to the most recent. Doesn't bring you to different replies, so you have to go play scavenger hunt. -If someone replies to an old post, it still shows the number of total replies to your post, not the number of new replies. This one has screwed with my mind more than once. Collapsed Threads -This one seems like they had it done well first, then reduced its functionality. If memory serves, originally clicking "X replies in this sub-thread" would simply display said replies and you could keep typing a post. Right now it refreshes the page, but doesn't load the whole thread. If you want to view the whole thread, reload the entire page again. Likes -As far as I can tell, these change the order of posts, and that's it. I still have yet to find out how to tell how many each post has, or any actual use for them besides screwing around with post orders. They show up on notifications, but you can't do anything with them. There is more but I can't remember it right now.

  • 1.) I disagree with you. The notification system SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the amount of button clicks that I used to do to see if somebody had replied to me in multiple threads. I can go straight to the group forums without going through too many menus, and I can see right away what some of my friends on here are up to with the follower features. 2.) They added pages lol. You obviously haven't even realized this. Do it, switch to "oldest first", I'll wait... 3.) Oh you're back! The groups were good because...you could avoid the rules? You can do that again with the recent update! The groups must be thriving with activity now...oh wait, they're still dead because of not being able to make stickies?! You're kidding me right? There are pinned topics on the front page of the groups, if the survivability of a group hinges on stickies and cool decorations then was that group even worth it? The only thing I want is my titles back for the elitism and to bring meaning back to the Mythics, other than that...-blam!- the rest of the groups. They seem quite useless without anything to unify us, like Destiny. 4.) Nobody will see the post you quoted? People will know I'm replying to you because of that little arrow next to my avatar, thus the quote citation being redundant. The incentive used to be losing your title, and then people subconsciously ignoring you because you were newfag blackbar shitposter lol. Oh and that ban that you'd get. It's the same thing right now other than the titles. 5.) "Have to play scavenger hunt" was the thing we had to do FOR EVERYTHING in the old site, and NOW you're complaining? The total replies thing pisses me off too. The likes feature is just so people don't say "this^" whenever they agree with you. tl;dr: -blam!- you, I read your whole post read mine lol

No, I won't give you a preview right now, but the Ninjas are itching for us to finish our work. They even helped us hatch those plans. I'll remind you what you wished for once it's granted
Would it take into account past posts once that system gets set up, or will it start with a new slate all over again?
We've given you the power to control your own experience. By and large, people have insisted they don't want to use them. We've relaxed the rules you've needed to follow to be here, and some of the abuses of that newfound freedom have been embarrassing. This community will be what you want it to be, as much as what we want it to be.
The only reason I could possibly see a person not using the tools given to us is because "I'm not a coward", but even then, I don't see that as a strong reason to not use it. For me? I have been using the report/dislike/mute system quite a bit, and my experience has gotten better after blocking out the things that I would deem detrimental to my own experience. It's not like "I don't like this person's opinion so mute, report, dislike, etc.", but more of a "Well, this isn't going anywhere anytime soon, do I have to deal with this abuse, or can i just mute and go on my merry way?" Honestly, other than the "I'm not a coward" reason, the only possible reason that I could think of with some logical reasoning to it is that there is no incentive to report, mute, or dislike (Especially on the Off-Topic). In the old Bnet, some users became Ninjas after repeated reports of people, built up trust, and enforcing the rules without going to the Forum Cop point. In Bnext, there is no such incentive, but from reading this:
And, this time, you won't earn your stripes simply by avoiding the Banhammer. We'll expect greater things from you.
I'm going to assume that people are going to start following the rules again, since there would be a reward at the end. At least, that's what I'm thinking.
I can't tell you that being a member of this community will be easy. Teach a man to fish he can feed his family. Teach a man to be a fishermen he can be a productive part of the Community. Deej our passion is us being impatient. Also you say Community but i am unsure these days what that defines. The entire Community ? Play Station or Xbox ? Actions to me the last year have been directed to Sony or its fans. I am not demanding attention or the like i just wish you guys would not need to whisper Xbox. A community should be together. I hear what you say yet will wait to see. I hope i am wrong about what i have been speaking about as of late. I do hope private groups or the changes to B.net will allow us to simply see more then stats. I am sorry if i seem skeptical but i am being reserved till the changes happen. I am sorry that i see things different as i see what is going on or happening. I am glad you are all working on the changes. I want to see a vibrant community where people who have groups or social fiber stay here. I think you guys at Bungie are good people. I guess you have to yell to get attention as someone will come over see what it is about. Good, Bad or Indifferent. Also Deej you guys missed CES show this year. or was it Comdex...that does not exist any longer...RIP Comdex and Tiger-Man.

  • Holy crapoka Ministry? Well good sir you're just right up the ladder for awesome taste. We need video. More Console just reusing the same E3 footage over and over is killing the conversation by tipping the Destiny forum in favor of repetitive questions and trolling squashing imaginative discussion. I'm hopeful that will change now that we are into the 2014 marketing cycle with the GDC and E3 coming for this new year. But you have a great imaginative group hanging in on the fringes adding worthwhile discussion here and there with vocal YouTube and social media voices doing their best to keep everyone excited for Destiny. I know you guys are great at anticipation and the build up, but I feel depressed about Destiny instead of bouncing out of my seat with wallet in hand throwing it at the screen. I'm looking forward to that moment again. It's just taking forever.

DeeJ it's been over a year and some people are just impatient for new features, I know I am, then I realize how difficult making the site "just right" is. Thanks for explaining some of things the web team is working on, but does this mean the site is in for another drastic change? Also why did some of the good b.old features get removed? Was it because the layout did not allow it?
