More than 400 crazed teens grabbed and smashed jars of candy, stole cheap items such as baby balloons and beat up security guards at Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Mill Basin between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., merchants said.
A violent game of “Knockout” also broke out on the upper level of the mall — and one teen may have been carrying a gun, sources said.
The teens used social media to plan the mass looting, vowing to put the mall “on tilt” – or to raid it, according to posts on Facebook and Twitter.
Clerks, who scrambled to close up their shops, said they were terrified.
“I’ve been here seven years and I have never seen anything like this before — I’m so scared. I know they will come back,” said Abu Taleb,31, a clerk at Candy Plaza 2.
“I was begging them to stop. There were a lot of kids hundreds of kids… [Security] would chase them out one door and they would come back in another door.”
In a situation like this, shop owners should be allowed to have firearms. It basically protecting themselves and their livelihood.

Ban social networking.

10 RespuestasKind of a spurious source there. Not to say it didn't happen, but that publication is known to exaggerate. Anyway, the "The teens used social media to plan the mass looting, vowing to put the mall “on tilt” – or to raid it, according to posts on Facebook and Twitter" is pretty funny. Assuming they were using their real accounts and names at least. Master Criminals there.
In a situation like this, shop owners should be allowed to have firearms. It basically protecting themselves and their livelihood.
Actually a lot of shop owners do have firearms, it's just that in a mall most stores assume they are safe from anything but normal shoplifting, so the owner doesn't have one in his office.
-
The mall should have security cameras, dang near everywhere has them now. The softer side of me would like to see everyone of them tracked down arrested and put in juvi till they are 18, then transferred to prison til they're 25. So they have time to think about how stupid they are, it'd set an example and kids would think twice if they knew the consequences.

Children are just. so. -blam!-y

Nobody loses their inherent right to self defence. The clerks were perfectly entitled to defend themselves proportionally to the threat. I'd have loved to work in a sports store. Baseball bat here I come!

You only need to catch a few.
