Is there a point to arguing at all
Lol
No, there isn't, there never was, and there never will be
This is just incessant bickering and namecalling, and attempts to make each other look dumb
Theists are supposed to be humble and what not and for the most part we are, at least I am,
And then some atheist (some, not all) act like they have to retaliate against the ones who keep to themselves
Who cares
If a true theist is rooted in their beliefs, then they won't change
If a true atheist is rooted in theirs, they won't change either
These threads are nothing but cluster-blam!-s and they always will be until we can agree to disagree
And we never will

Editado por Prototape: 8/31/2013 4:22:42 AMMore importantly, why are people even trying to change the beliefs of others? If someone's happy being religious, an atheist has no right to try and discourage them from believing what they want. If an atheist is happy with their beliefs, then a religious person should not try and change that. There's no reason to involve yourself in someone's life when it comes to something so important. If either party is unhappy with their beliefs, they will change by themselves. We're all adults here, capable of making our own life choices. Even if you're not an adult, you're conscious enough to know what you do and do not believe in. Me personally, I don't care about either groups. The only problem I have with some religions is their leadership and the church itself, but I won't argue that with its members because it clearly makes them happy. It's just respectful.

Taken from separate reply chain:

And, no, there is no point to arguing. It's a fruitless endeavor that accomplishes nothing. Neither person involved will change, and if anything, it'll just create more anger between those involved in the argument.
This is demonstratively false. Debates on these forums have led to beliefs being changed in numerous people. How else do you think most people change beliefs? They talk to other people about it.
Editado por Bandi: 8/31/2013 3:06:17 AMSorry Winy I don't care how false it is or how ignorant I may sound If you can show me an example of each right here on these forums, then cool Otherwise, I've yet to see it even in real life, heck even the other day I eavesdropped on a Muslim and a Christian debating and neither side wanted to just shut up after two hours of going back and forth These sways have only happened within people who've had ounces of doubt I'm sure, but I'm pretty sure that what I said is true to some extent I don't think suddenly not believing in a God that I've believed in for so long would be a good thing, nor would be be acceptable for an atheist to start believing in one after he and his atheists friends had a night out and bashed the hell out of a Jew Just my two cents

i'm an example guy man
If you can show me an example of each right here on these forums, then cool
Zeal and dr0xc are the first two examples I can think of. There are more, some whom I only directly spoke to, but it was way back in B.Old.
Otherwise, I've yet to see it even in real life, heck even the other day I eavesdropped on a Muslim and a Christian debating and neither side wanted to just shut up after two hours of going back and forth
Very seldom to realizations about the validity of one's beliefs occur during debates. It's a very gradual, time-consuming process. I transitioned from Theism to Agnostic Atheism over the course of, like, a year. And even then, people's beliefs are constantly revised and altered.
These sways have only happened within people who've had ounces of doubt I'm sure, but I'm pretty sure that what I said is true to some extent
Somebody who isn't open to the idea of being incorrect doesn't have a place in a debating environment.
I don't think suddenly not believing in a God that I've believed in for so long would be a good thing, nor would be be acceptable for an atheist to start believing in one after he and his atheists friends had a night out and bashed the hell out of a Jew
Like I said before, it's not a sudden process.

I have and always will be an atheist. My views will never change. Lots of people are the very same. Not everyone changes their views.
-
That isn't the question the OP asked.
-
Yes, it is.
-
No, it's not. He didn't ask if you thought your mind was going to be changed. He asked if it was possible. I already spent a whole subthread explaining why anyone who is speaking in absolutes regarding this specific topic is a moron. I'm not doing it again.
-
Why not? I can't have my mind changed because I am correct. Obviously <__<
-
A year is a short time... at least it feels like it but that's not the point
Somebody who isn't open to the idea of being incorrect doesn't have a place in a debating environment.
And that's just it, I'm not here to debate, and a few other people aren't, either, clearly
-
And that's just it, I'm not here to debate, and a few other people aren't, either, clearly
You aren't required to. If you politely inform somebody you aren't interested in arguing, and the still press their views, fuck em.' And I don't mean that in a sexual manner (Unless you're into angry sex, I don't give a shit).
-
I don't think I'd like angry sex Especially with Black women Thanks for that tidbit though Luv u
