Agreed that it looks like a run of the mill AR with a bayonet, but if its an exotic weapon, it must have some sort of special trait. The Thunderlord has electrified rounds, and given that the description above mentions "you will be well on your way to becoming legend when you find this gun" I am assuming they wouldnt offer an exotic weapon near the end of the game that didnt have something special about it.
Lastly, did no one read the disclaimer and paragraph after? They are giving us a glimpse into the creation of the Red Death which very well may be in its infancy. On the other hand it could be finished, yet im sure we know nothing of its skill tree and potential 'hidden powers'.

Also, I see a good amount of references to borderlands. While I agree that this may look like 1 (or more) of the millions of guns in borderlands, what game from here till the end of time wont make a gun that slightly resembles a gun from Borderlands? That being said, none of the guns in Borderlands had a real story behind them or any relation to the game other than that it was used to shoot at your enemies. Given what Deej said, this gun will have a back story all its own, which makes it different than any gun in Borderlands.

ALL of the high raritys(legendaries, exotics, etc.) weapons in borderlands had a story behind them or were Easter eggs.
