Opinions and desires aside there are actually things from stopping from being able to use the console, regardless of whether or not I want it.
Offline Restrictions
I live in an area in which I have bad connection issues, I can barely watch YouTube videos in default quality and I still have to wait several minutes for buffers. The internet goes out from time to time and as a User of Satellite Internet, my connection can go if there's a storm and it'll be out for several days while stuff is fixed. Also, I'm not a wealthy man, I'm a common person and my internet does go out, for days, weeks. Sometimes I just let the month swing by.

Kinect Mandatory
I have a small living space. I use a desk and my single console is on that desk. My desk also takes up 3 monitors so there's not much space for peripherals in the first place. It would be redundant in my case where I can't use it, have no place to put it. It's just ending up a big headache to me for a peripheral I don't want in the first place. That thing is huge.
The other issues aside (which are indeed a big deal), I can't actually make use of Microsoft's console. They aren't future proofing anything they are moving to what they think is the future but they are backing themselves into a wall by making all this stuff mandatory. THey are pushing Cloud and that's fine but that isn't too much on the hardware's side, these things that are mandatory for XBO which they are saying is for the future, Sony can do.
Sony has Cloud services and will be using them heavily as well. Sony can/will move forward to have the 'cool concepts' Microsoft is 'envisioning' for the future, while keeping the consumer happy. Kinect is a peripheral, making it mandatory for use, doesn't do anything for them or us. Sony has Eye, does similar things and guess what, it's not required.
Last thing I wanted to address is the 'future proofing', in particular, the 'future' part. We do not yet live in a world where there is readily available internet, so having something like this, it doesn't work. Also, you can't pay with cash on a digital system. They are saying they want to move towards the future but what they are going for is 20 years away. Fiber is only just starting. They're maybe 2 generations early, internet isn't widespread yet and we won't be in a digital world any time soon. Even then I don't believe physical discs are a thing that will go away.
It's a scary thought of the future they envision, where you only get the products through them? Isn't there a name for that? Or a board game about it? I don't know. Anyways, those are just my two cents on the whole situation.

You should buy the PS4.

3 RespuestasThen move and buy internet. Join the 21st century. Simple.

3 RespuestasThe quality of your internet shouldn't matter, the authentication process only takes a few kilobytes of data. If you can download a single page Microsoft Word Document, you can probably authenticate just fine.
-
1 RespuestaFortunately a product exists that caters to you. It is called the Xbox360
-
I'm surprised you weren't concerned about backwards compatibility.

Then buy a PS4? I don't see the big problem. Unless you're a diehard xbox fan and you're so totally cut and depressed from the news I don't see the drama. Most of the good games are multiplatform and PS4 has some sweet exclusives itself.

1 Respuesta1. The 24-hour check is not set in stone. It's likely they'll let you play offline with the disk in the tray. 2. The Kinect has to be plugged in, but its use is not mandatory.

4 RespuestasBoth companies need to rethink the HDD size. If your going to move to digital you need a large HDD. Right now my steam folder which has 27/90 games installed comes out at a whopping 398GB. 1 or 2 of those games are in the hundreds of MB range. As we progress to better hardware the games will get bigger. 500GB isnt large enough. Anyone who buys the consoles should immediately start saving for an extra HDD. Heck you probably really starting with a 450GB harddrive once you get everything installed OS wise. Kind of silly for both companies to jsut offer 500gb but oh well.

Editado por Bistromathics: 6/15/2013 1:02:31 AMYeah, if you don't have reliable internet, you will not be buying an Xbox One. An internet connection is as necessary for the XB1 as electricity. For those of us who do have reliable internet connections, though, the unique cloud features are pretty nice. I'm looking forward to sharing games with friends and being able to bring my Xbox experience with me, even if I'm on another system, thanks to cloud data. Sony doesn't have the infrastructure to support the kind of cloud connections that the XB1 has, and if they do decide to go that route, they'll have to start from scratch and change their model. But the PS4 is definitely a better console for non-connected play. It's very much a "traditional" game console, with upgraded specs for some great performance.

I used to live in an area like that. I moved.

Editado por Gi Bad Dog: 6/14/2013 1:32:56 PMYou connect once every 24 hours which takes kilobytes of information to do this. You can even use hotspot from phone. Kinect can go on top of your TV/Monitor. I am sure it will come with an attachment accessory or you can buy one. Sony's Cloud isn't even at release and is only slated for US at this time, who knows how long it will take cloud to get to other places if they can't even offer it at launch in US. 35% of the world uses the internet. Now that may seem low but you have to think of places like Africa and Asia which has large populations and most of them can't even afford a system. I would say Nearly 75% of users have internet on where the Consoles are being targeted to sale. This is while the use of Internet is exponentially increasing. Just look at computers. They are always connected to internet to play games. I personally don't know anyone that has a console and doesn't have a computer. http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm Edit* Majority of Xbox 360 users have online accounts too. And that number is only growing. You also have to think of how many people have bought multiple consoles. I am on I believe my third console, friends of mine are on their second+. I have a few friends that have 4-5 Xbox consoles just to use as media centers. http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/xbox-360-sales-and-xbox-live-membership-numbers-give-microsoft-a-compelling-defense-for-the-always-online-next-xbox/

Editado por IAmMoot: 6/14/2013 10:37:55 AM-You say you can barely connect to the internet, only logging in once every 24 hours is enough. I don't think you need a broadband connection to log in ONCE. -I'll be putting my Kinect somewhere between my 2 screens. I'm pretty sure you could make some room, then again, I don't know how your room looks like. But I also live in a small room with a small desk and so I'd understand at least a bit. I don't think your points are really valid bro, no offence. EDIT: You will use Sony's Cloud services with a bad connection? Good luck bro. You need a good connection for that since it's pretty much live streaming but much more bandwidth eating.

Editado por Swim Good: 6/14/2013 10:41:59 AMThe X1 can do the online check through mobile broadband (3G etc) not just your internet connection so you might be ok. The kinect sensor works with just 1.4m of space from the sensor for a single person and barely takes up any room itself so, unless you live in a box, you should be fine.

Internet isn't widespread yet? Lol bullshit, and MS is pushing the digital world, time to stop slowly moving into the future and get a push, and Microsoft is stepping up to that.

Just get a PC.
