It is not the intent to kill the baby, it is only a side effect of saving mother's life if she is having problems related to the pregnancy.
Now follow my logic. No religious concepts are used.
Let's start with something that we can all agree on.
We have the rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
At what point do we receive these rights?
When we exist.
When do we exist?
When we are alive with our own set of unique genetic code which defines us as individual people.
Webster's dictionary definition of life:
n. Condition of plants, animals, etc. in which they exercise functional powers.
A single cell divides.
Mitosis is a functional power of an organism.
Therefore, the single cell which contains your DNA and starts to operate is the exact moment you are alive (Conception), and you are endowed with the rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
The only reasoning for ending this life is if it is a byproduct of trying to save another life, the mother's. (Removal of cancerous fallopian tube).
The woman retains control over her own body; however, she does not have the right to end a separate human's life.

Did you read the OP? You do, only if it threatens your life. And why abort when adoption is available?
-
No. Women have the right to get as many abortions as they want, as often as they want.
