I posted this in another forum, and was promptly kicked out by a ninja and told to come here....
I'm really asking your opinion here, because I don't think anyone can say for sure.
Why is it that the Halo can kill all life 'with enough biomass to sustain the flood' if it isn't a weapon designed to be used against the flood? It's designed to kill their 'food' source, but not them. It would seem to me that these would go hand-in-hand.
What do the rest of you think?

its what makes us such a great species, we have to know everything, the forerunners wanted to know everything, and it got out of controll.
-
The Forerunners made the Halos to control the Flood incase there was an outbreak. They studied the Flood since it wasn't known well.
-
ur right.... why don't they destroy the flood ? why didn't the forerunners just build the halos... then put all flood on it then blow the halos up like MC did, MC destroyed the halo and killed the flood, so why didn't the forerunners ?
-
thanks guys, but back to the topic...
-
Yep, Kudos to AoG...

Wow, not many people (on these forums, anyway) would admit defeat like that. ... Horray! EDIT: Oh, and I saw that info on either halo3.com, Wikipedia, or Halopedia. One of those. That narrows it down. [Edited on 06.23.2007 3:54 AM PDT]

AoG..look at the halo 3 page under the gravemind description
Posted by: mattroe29 AoG Apolcalyptic - Graveminds DO die in the Halo blast - except another was made. A Gravemind is when a Brain form reaches a certain mass and becomes sentient. So there may be more than 1 Gravemind as of Halo 3...
this sounds very interesting, but for curiosity, where did you see this?

Flood are the cockroaches of the universe, ultra resistant to everything, :O
-
in server five on the record sheet it says reset numerous times it could be that the systtem was designed to blow up the flood aswell but it wasnt going to work for some reason and the one who was activating it realised it and tried to stop it but was too late

The Halos don't even work for crying out loud! The stupid forunners fired them once and guess what? The flood didn't starve to death! If the halos are fired again more intelligent species will eventually evolve and the flood are just gonna be sitting there like last time, alive. So of course we're not going to fire the halos- stupid worthless pieces of junk. [Edited on 06.23.2007 12:30 AM PDT]

No, they didn't build the halos in a day. They had to have been doing some planning during that time And they were storing spores and infection forms for study. That had to be for a reason. They settled with taking down any life with "sufficient bio-mass" to host the flood. They didn't come upon this strategy easily or use it lightly. And no; I do not believe we are descended from the forunners. I think they looked at humans more as favored children. 100,000 years ago all fossil data shows mega-fauna across the globe dieing off. At nearly the same point in the fossil record mankind begins appearing in multiple parts of the world.
Posted by: Colichemarde There's nothing that says the forunners weren't trying to have the halos kill the flood outright. They may not have had enough time to set up the rings to target the flood in all it's forms. The complex life that the flood targets as a host may have simply presented an easier answer. Hit the nervous systems of these and take the flood down the hard way. They (the forunners) seem to have activated the halo network out of desperation. They were still studying their enemy up until they pulled the trigger.
actually, i don't' remember if it was the book or the game, but 343 told mastercheif the purpose of t he halo was to wipe out all sentient (meaning life that can think for itself) life in the galaxy, which would then starve the flood
At the same time they actively worked to preserve the younger races; knowing that they would have to initiate the containment protocols themselves if need be.
so by this you mean, you think that the forerunners are still alive, and we don't evolve into them?
-
Halo destroy's all sentinent(Intelligent) life.
-
Posted by: Snowman I don't really see how an activation of the Halos would stop the flood. Do infection forms really die after awhile without any "food?" And if the flood are the antithesis of life, aren't they already dead?
ok, the flood is a virus, not an "antithesis of life" that theory is from a game, comepleatly separate from bungie. my point being, that the flood lives, by infecting other things, they have to infect something, its their "food" so when they have nothing to infect, they don't get what they need to survive, just like any other paristie ae:tick, ring worm,: they die.

AoG lol, it censored your scientific name for humans... hahaha.... good point though
