The Official GRD/BoB Helmet Thread. Updated Rumors and Possibilities.

If you haven't heard of the GRD helmet, then you are definitely new here. So far dozens of threads have been posted about the GRD helmet, and I do believe dozens more will be posted. I'm starting this thread due to the lack of updating from the OP of the original Is BUNGIE Telling us how to unlock the GRD Helmet?! Hopefully this will become the official discussion thread of the GRD Helmet, and with any luck, won't become another Secret of Sandtrap failure. I will be breaking this down in to sections and it will probably be laden with paranoia and crazy non-nonsensical conspiracies along the way, but digging up the truth is never easy.
Where it all started:
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... I mean... A long time ago, on these forums, a rumor surfaced about a helmet seen in the Defiant Map Pack trailer at a few different points as shown in this video. As soon as this picture was posted, the battle was on. Everyone was talking about the newly deemed "BoB" helmet, and many were trying to figure out how to get it. (Although most were too lazy to even search for anything!) At some point BS Angel, from the Waypoint forums, said "telling us how to get the helmet would take all the fun out of finding it." Summed up of course. This of course sent people into a frenzy of copy pasting that eventually died down... until July 7th that is... On Bungie day, 7/7/11, many people said that Tender Loins searching through the armory was seen quickly switching over what looked exactly like the "BoB" helmet, actually called the GRD helmet as he passed it. Recordings of Bungie Day have surfaced! Available here, feel free to comb through them! After Bungie day ended, Bungie had left this paused screen up for over 24 hours. A screen focused on a hole found on Countdown. As people are naturally curious and paranoid of Bungie, they quickly went to check out Countdown and Long Night of Solace for secrets. It was then discovered that Countdown has SEVEN holes altogether and people have been speculating that as the IWHBYD skull required you to jump through rings in a certain order (4654534 specifically). Oddly enough, there are signs located on both Long Night of Solace, Unearthed, and the Package that show a code featuring the letters GRD and a code following afterwards. Here are two of the pictures: LNOS: UNSC GRD M142008 Unearthed: GRD M01408-G Other codes include: UNSC M0000813, 8475-191, and M0000817 Now that you are up to speed on the subject, I have a long list of theories, and you can bet most of them are probably nothing. But first... If you believe hackers would have found it on the disc quickly, consider this: Halo 3 had a secret that was estimated to be found around 2010 by Bungie. This secret was the IWHBYD skull. Hackers found the skull and quickly discovered the combination that was required to get it, a combination that was supposed to be undiscovered for years. Obviously Bungie had to of been cheesed off at said hackers, and either hid this helmet much better, or it is unavailable at the current time. Now for the theories.
Countdown Secret Combination
Ever since this photo was left up for more than 24 hours by Bungie, people have been discussing the possibilities that it is somehow linked to the GRD helmet seen earlier on Bungie day. Once it was discovered that there are seven holes to go through on Countdown, people have linked it to the Halo 3 IWHBYD skull secret in which you had to jump through rings in a specific order. There is only one small problem in testing out this theory... There are over 800,000 possible combinations of a seven number code. I don't know about you, but I really don't have to patience to try out every possibility. Also found on Countdown is a lone voltage meter seen here
Possible link to Bungie day team name?
L.Y.D.T.T.C.T.S.F.A.D.I.T.G.B.O.E.V.(t) was the Bungie day team name and so far no actually connections to the name have been made. It is either a secret, or nothing.
Long Night of Solace Connections
Found all over the inside of structure just before you take off into space are signs that contain the code UNSC GRD M142008. GRD is the newly deemed name of the BoB helmet, so it is indeed intriguing. As for the code, it is speculated that it is a date. May 14, 2008 to be specific. Or March, as I've been told. No important dates seem to have occurred on that date (other then my uncle's 53rd birthday), so it is currently not known if it is applicable. Some have suggested setting the Xbox's date to that time, but no reports of anything special happening have surfaced as of yet.
Posted by: TrustySnooze
Posted by: RigZ Boi Pics/vids or GTFO.
Posted by: TrustySnooze So I was searching aroung on Long Night of Solace on Legendary, when I found this strange Marine who just stood over by the Pelican pick-up but never got in it. He just stood there not moving so I decided to push him over to where the guy is in the webcam. Then he started walking! He jumped down to the bottom floor and appeared to just be walking around in a random pattern, when he suddenly stopped in front of a white dooor like thing.

Best I can do for now. I'll video tape it tommorrow.

Unearthed Connections
The code GRD M01408-G is found on Unearthed on many signs that feature a man with a construction hat, or a hand. Since Unearthed was a map released in the Defiant Map Pack where the new helmet was spotted, many speculate that the helmet may somehow be found on Unearthed. Posted by Rory 1201:
Posted by: Rory 1201 I was looking on Unearthed and outside of the map, there is an area that says "Out of bounds . . ." instead of "OUT OF BOUNDS". Also, the "Out of bounds . . ." area does not have a "Return to Battlefield" countdown. Does this mean anything? I thought maybe a skull is hidden on the map. Also, there are signs with a picture of a construction worker that somewhat reminds me of the BOB helmet, and each one says GRD below them. But I found one that had only the hat of the construction worker. It was on the left side of a closed door. On the right side there is a UNSC symbol.
Others have been searching rooms with closed doors around the map to no avail... for now.
BoB Elite Connections
There are special golden ranger class elites found on each Halo: Reach level and as of now the reason to their existence is unknown. There have been a few daily challenges that involve these hard to find elites only adding to speculation. The reason they are called BoBs is also unknown, and the only link is to Bungie's Marathon game that contained an enemy known as a BoB or Born on Board. BOBS descriptions tell you to "Wipe them out" "Seek and Destroy" and to simply kill them all. This is a reference to a Marathon Vidmaster, and to the secret of the BOBS, to find and kill them all on Legendary, just as you would wipe them out on Marathon. The Vidmaster also tells us to hit all switches and so on which most likely has some relations to Halo: Reach and its secrets as well. Many believe we have yet to kill all of the BoBs, and that they have some relation to the helmet. Shows the relation between the BoB found in Marathon to the "BoB" helmet. I too believe that there are more BoBs to be killed, but I don't know if they are related to the current subject.
Data pad Connections
Some believe that there is one more data pad to be found and is linked to getting the helmet. Since the screen was left on a hole found on Countdown for more then 24 hours, many have been searching Long Night of Solace for a data pad that could be hidden in the area of Countdown. No such thing has been discovered yet, but with Bungie making the game, who knows what is hidden. Note that the code 48452-556-EPN644 is found on the data pad that is currently known of on Countdown. There is also a rumor that there are voices played backwards in the data pads that need to be played backwards again to understand the messages inside.
Construction Helmet Connection
There are several construction helmets found throughout the game both on signs and in material form. Most notably on the Package, where you can find four construction helmets. Under many construction hat signs is the code M01408-G. The door that opens after you press the switch on the Package also has a material construction helmet beside it, making some believe they hold some sort of unknown link to easter eggs. _____________________________________________________________ I have to end the theories and such here for now due to being out of characters. Next post will contain more in the future, and is saved for such. [Edited on 07.11.2011 2:14 PM PDT]
