So all the other expansions where they basically throw the entire story in your face for the reveal....suddenly they can't show anything because "spoilers".

Agreed. They revealed Cayde's Forsaken death and TFS return well in advance. If those weren't worthy of keeping secret then I can't imagine what national security issues might be at stake for EoF.
