Bungie releases DLC that is universally loved and critically acclaimed...and people still think they're lazy, incompetent or bad at making video games. Oh, and that's after a $3 billion sale price. With an extra $1 billion because Sony wanted Bungie employees to be part of the deal. But ya, they're lazy, incompetent and bad at their jobs.

  • Fake. It's not universally loved... It's universally left in the rear view mirror. If it was as good as you few 70 IQ kids think there would be more people playing it. You just have no self respect.

  • False. The reason more people aren't playing is either burn out or other interests. It has nothing to do with Bungie as a developer or anything objectively wrong with this game. Most haters are short sighted entitled little cry baby posers who troll the forums of the game that was frustrating to them because of their lack of skill. I imagine that describes you.

  • But they are. The DLC wasn't 'universally loved and critically acclaimed' - it was okay, but a lot of the good elements were kind of overshadowed by over sentimental bad writing and downright terrible game design. A lot of the reviewers who fell over themselves to praise it have already stopped playing it with any regularity two months after launch and are walking back a lot of their original statements when they realised that once you worked past 4 hours of fan service, there's nothing really there. You seem to forget that Pete Parsons didn't spend that $1.2 billion on cars (no matter what some might tell you), that was spent on the employees, who yet somehow still managed to deliver us Lightfall and then The Final Shape four months late (which I personally still don't think is a patch on expansions like The Taken King in terms of design or Forsaken in terms of scope). They are currently still -blam!- overstaffed (producing a live service game plus an 'in-flight' project using nearly twice the staff that Zenimax Online Studios and nearly three times as many as Digital Extremes have to achieve exactly the same goal, and yet both of those are going to bring a second game to the table long before Bungie do, despite starting on them later and have a better player engagement with their current live service offerings) So either they're lazy or they're incompetent or they're just bad at their jobs... or a combination of all of them.. and making excuses for them isn't going to change that, because the first step to solving a problem is to admit that you have one...

  • Ummm, Lightfall didn't suck (despite what you may have heard). It was a pretty robust offering with very cool aesthetics, new subclass, new world, new events, and gear...none of which was undercooked or overcooked. The story was nothing different than what was considered well done before. And besides everyone's fascination with The Veil and what it was (still don't consider it a MacGuffin) and people's hate of Nimbus (for no reason other than a general hate for LGBTQ) it was well liked. Missions were fun, Raid was a blast, and nothing they did was boring or lackluster. It was polished and interesting, and actually brought more fans into the game than any expansion before it. Critics who panned it were doing so for click bait, because that's what critics do these days. Their integrity is bought by their corporate overlords who want click bait hate to sell advertising. Final Shape really pissed them off, because there was nothing anyone could reasonably complain about, and that has in turn caused media outlets to scramble for ways to get click bait hate on other things, like the layoffs (which have been very common in the industry for reasons linked to the post-covid world we've created). And Lightfall was a DLC created during a time post-covid when everyone was figuring out work-from-home (not a great and productive way to work collaboratively) and this new world we live in with AI being a cheap alternative to real people (which is going to end up diminishing the feel and quality of video games for the foreseeable future). So, if seen through that prism, Lightfall was another success in a long line of successful content. No one else is making a game with the quality of Destiny 2. No one. There hasn't been a single game released since Destiny 2 that is even close to its polish, presentation, and feel. No other game even tries to mix PvE and PvP without one or both being complete s💩hhhit. So, comparing the studio to Zenimax and Digital Extremes, or anyone else, means very little when we compare the final products they created. As a matter of fact, your whole argument about other studios makes little sense. Name one multiplayer game ANYONE has made that comes close to what Destiny does in terms of quality, inclusion, variety and depth. Destiny stands alone, and Final Shape was an amazing capstone on the light and dark saga. The game may not be bug free, but it is a triumph. I'd say the worst thing the company did is outsourced the QA dept., instead of curating one in-house. But they could have discovered that good employees are hard to find, and they weren't getting any better results with expensive in-house employees, so why not try a 3rd party. Who knows. The QA segment in the industry is so awful, they feel the need to unionize left and right. Just to try and save their jobs, instead of just working hard and proving yourself. But that's a subject for another day. All we actually KNOW is the quality of work done over the past 7 years is unmatched, and have satisfied millions of players doing something considered rather repetitive! That is amazing when the alternatives are boring Survival games, Battle Royale games and Extraction shooters that still can't compete with GTA V, League of Legends and Valorant for sustained enjoyment from their player base. Sure, many single player games have come and gone and done extremely well, but they aren't doing Live Service. Live Service is something only Bungie has been able to get right, and for that, and everything else I've noted...they deserve our praise and Sony's money. They've earned it!

  • TFS didn’t sell nearly as well as expected probably because Lightfall was so bad. Several outlets have stated that TFS missed sales marks and one went so far (Game Post) to claim it sold worse than Lightfall. If Lightfall was so good why did TFS not flourish with extra time, mandatory crunch, streamer feedback, and then streamers getting it free to pimp it on their channels? Yes, Bungie will always do layoffs rather than fix problems, but they wouldn’t have had to do them all if they had focused on making good games rather than monetizing an ok game.

  •
Ummm, Lightfall didn't suck
Oh, it absolutely does - it sucks -blam!- HARD! I'm about to complete that campaign for the third time on my Hunter in order to unlock Strand but I can barely bring myself to do it because it feels like my very soul is being ripped from my body. It is truly, truly awful, so much so that if they hadn't kept Strand locked behind it I would never have played any of that content ever again (but they have, because they know that's the only way to force people to play that garbage). Numbnuts is just so unbelievably -blam!- annoying - you wouldn't even bother trying to stand up for a character that bad if they were portrayed as straight (in fact making them non-binary is just an insulting and obvious way to try and avoid criticism). Between that, Osiris' whiny tantrums and Rohan's pontificating it's a wonder I haven't launched my controller out of the window in sheer blind rage at how badly conned I feel in buying it. As for the rest, you really do need to remove yourself from the echo chamber of your own delusion and try experiencing something other than the Bungie Kool-Aid. Seriously, from the kneeling position you're in, your view is severely blocked.
Live Service is something only Bungie has been able to get right
Holy crap, can you even hear yourself??? You can try looking here just for PC alone https://steamcharts.com/top At least 10 of those top 20 are live service in one form or another and one of the ones I mentioned, Warframe, is at number 25 (at the time of writing, Destiny 2 was languishing down at 52, just in case you're looking for it) Practically EVERYONE does live service better than Bungie! There are non-live service games that do live service better than Bungie!!! The mere fact that D2 content creators are leaving in droves to cover other live service titles should be testament enough to that.

  • Nope, you're delusional. The steam charts shows what people are going to after exhausting all the Destiny content over a one month long play session Probably needed a break. Kind of like you. Are you having a tourette fit or something? Can't seem to speak sentences without random cuss words popping up. Must be that, or maybe you're 12. Or have the emotional and cognitive intelligence of a 12 year old. Either way, nothing you said sways me at all. No game in the steam charts have anywhere close to the universal appeal as Destiny. It's the only game that tries to give us a little bit of everything we could want in a game, does it in 1st Person, and crushes the graphics, the sounds, and the feels. There is no comparison. Now go lie down and rest. I just whooped your 🍑. Or go have a glass of water and a Rx pill. You'll feel better.

What I am is a video gaming veteran, with over 40 years of experience in all manner of gaming, from 8-but through until the present day. What I am is an IT professional with just over 20 years of experience dealing directly with software developers. I know games and I know garbage and I especially know where Bungie fall on that spectrum. I also know people in the recruitment sector that have said if they saw a C.V. crossed their desk with Bungie on it as an employer with more than 6 months in the role, they wouldn't even read it and they'd throw it straight in the rejected pile, because they'd rather not harm their reputation by getting them a placement (prior to 6 months then they've probably worked out how much it would harm their career to stay at Bungie). I watched Bungie rise with their cheap, Mac-only Doom knockoff (the same one they're currently banking their survival on) and I'll watch them fall with it too. And when they're gone, those clueless, brain-dead cult devotees like you will be wondering what's going to give meaning to their shallow, empty lives anymore. But the rest of the world won't even care enough to laugh at you. So run home to Mommy, or Bungie, or whoever is willing to put in enough effort to pretend they care about you, child..

  • Whatever, employee. You are a good example of the level of talent at Bungie. Clueless, lacking in intelligence or vision, and convinced of your own self-righteousness regardless of all the evidence to the contrary. Enjoy the unemployment line.

  •
When you have to cite inclusion as a success metric everyone knows you don’t have anything good to say.
When you have to point out one portion of my entire rebuttal as proof I "don't have anything good to say"...that says WAY more about you than me. Inclusion in games is about equal representation to minorities and accessibility to those with special needs. You are the problem with America. Hope you never lead anyone anywhere.

What problem do I have? Don’t recall saying anything negative about the inclusion aspect to begin with, just made fun of you for using it as a metric. Imagine telling a minority they are the problem because they find the vacuous pandering to be laughable. People like you are the problem with the world. Virtue signaling busy bodies who take any disagreement as proof of the person being less than. Inclusion apparently doesn’t include opinions anymore… That’s why countries are starting to jail people for having differing opinions. Heck the UK is even talking about extradition for mean tweets now. Cause of people like you. Not people like me.
