When people hear the word “nerf”, they automatically assume that whatever getting nerfed is going to be useless. That’s not true and has been shown COUNTLESS times in recent history of the game.

No it pretty much does make that item unusable. Bungie has no consistency with nerfs. The biggest issue is bungie has multiple teams that don’t communicate well. It leads to things like nerfs being ridiculous where everyone nerfs something different about the weapon or armour and instead of choosing 1 thing they just do them all.
-
I bet it’s not countless…

The idea of nerfing something isn’t the issue, in fact nerfs are necessary for the game to be healthy, competitive and enjoyable. The problem is how said nerfs are implemented and Bungie does not have a good record on how they nerf things (they either take too long to nerf something or try to implement multiple nerfs at the same time).
-
Oh is that what you noticed? I noticed something else. Whenever Bungie says “nerf”, it means the item is vaulted for the next three seasons at least.
-
It's nerf, or nothing.

1 RespuestaNerf = A term often used to convey a desired outcome like removing or limiting item features. Instead of whining about powerful weapons get a few and have fun, it is a game. BTW do not stand still, NEVER STAND STILL!

2 RespuestasObviously true, but that is not the public's perception. NERF = BAD = less fun = worse to play with = why bother taking it out of the vault When something is used more than other weapons/armor in builds, it is because it works to defeat content. Nerfing said items makes content harder to complete. Bungie is all about making the game less fun, less engaging, and catering to the elite player base and streamers who have been saying it is to easy. Bungie does not care about making the game fun, just a miserable slog, players are leaving and not purchasing. WHY?
-
It's a cognitive bias. They only remember the nerfs that kill something because those are the ones that made an impact. Nerfs that still left the subject intact didn't matter that much, so people don't remember them.
-
Do you feel that way when your parents "nerf" your allowance? Lol.... Seriously, you're right.

Cool story bro

Nerf doesn't mean useless, necessarily, but it does usually mean objectively worse than we currently have. That's bad enough. Add on top of that how often they HAVE made things relatively useless, and add on top of THAT, how often they've hurt something in one side of the game in a desperate attempt to balance it in another. Nerf is a dirty word, with dirty connotations.

You can't blame them though. Bungie has a history of nerfing things into the ground. Still, people should just play the game and see before they start their crying. At the end of the day, you can play the whole game with garbage gear, and it's not like any one thing is actually required for a completion. Is what I would have said 5 years ago. I don't think that's true anymore.
