Fortnite tends to have more people playing it. It's also fully congruent with what people show up to play it for and doesn't have to explain to people why they're there. This is also one of the games where people of all skill levels will be treating rewards like they're real for better or worse. That means it has to balance having rewards for all skill levels and making all rewards for everyone harder.
Fortnite is casual by default. Destiny PvP would be one of the least casual games by default and somewhat by accident (halo was also somewhat of a beautiful accident) So fortnite doesn't succeed as a pvp only because it's sbmm.

It's not about SBMM the topic explains everything and my comment is something I want in-game

It's always about sbmm. Unless the true casuals are knocking at the door and demanding a fabulous prize giveaway for their time. At which point it's also about sbmm. SBMM in trials is a strange subject because the point of trials is not for most people to win every week and if you're not that good you may only win once a season or so even though you probably wouldn't if it was as ruthlessly fun as it might have been. And that's one way you can tell it's not necessarily only that pvp is despised by the people that it should definitely matter if they despise it. This game could have had some nastily hardcore aspects like power leveling stuff and the original no excuses mercy IB mode. But that's just not what enough of the population shows up expecting these days. 10 years on, all different players should be able to show up and get at least some of what they're expecting. Then when they get the surprise parts they stay. Or come back enough to think about shopping at the eververse.
