I think they are just burned out on the franchise. Bungie has never been a studio/dev that wanted to make a single game for a long time. Microsoft basically had to pull teeth to get more Halo made and then Bungie left because they wanted to start a new project. Personally I hope they decide to not continue the franchise after Final Shape because it's pretty clear at this point they aren't interested in actually putting in any effort for the Destiny franchise and I'm fine with it just coming to an end so they can move on to work on what they want.

I am not surprised by the direction the game is taking atm. It’s quite clear resources have been reshuffled and some of the major creative talent has been re-tasked to Marathon and the ‘as yet’ unnamed other project. D2 is also starting to look dated - this is natural for a game that’s been out this long (props to bungies team for how long graphically it has held its own for all this time). The core playlists have also remained stagnant and as we have now learned, will get little real investment going forwards. None of this will really be a surprise to many - burnout has been a natural occurrence upon season end for a while now. It’s good to take breaks and play other things (I have been playing DMZ recently and honestly I think the extraction shooter is a good direction for Marathon - lots of longevity - also played Diablo 4 like many others but levelling past 60 is killing me in season 1 lol). Deep down we all know eververse is there to bankroll this game and other projects - but they cannot come out and actually say that. Luke smith tried the now infamous ‘throw money at the screen’ line and look how that worked out for him… it was probably one of the most candid and open/honest responses bungie has ever made but caused a real backlash at the time (from myself and many, many others). I do in all honesty feel quite sorry for the community managers who have to bear the brunt of players frustration and try and placate the state of the game by using word-smithery and redirection to keep things in perspective. It’s a real shame that this has all generated so much ill-will in the dwindling (faithful) population but I do understand the sentiment. Personally, I feel some of us need to realise that bungie is a business at the end of the day and that we really do need to keep a degree of perspective. Yes it’s unfortunate we can’t have what we want - but it’s also healthy to just let go when we don’t! Sadly some of us seem to be truly addicted and cannot even conscience playing anything else. There is also so much loot in this game now none of it really matters… I have fully recrafted god roll succession, forbearance and every exotic with catalyst unlocked. I’m good thanks. The grand purge helped to reduce the games bloated feeling - but as those guns have been reintroduced season-on-season as part of the ‘recycling’ program we are back to the same situation we were in before with arguably far less incentive to chase new roles of guns we probably already have the best versions of. In summary, I do feel the final shape may also be my final participation in D2 (as I do want to see the main story out) but honestly if bungies way of delivering that story for me is through a log that I need to press ‘X’ to read each week I would rather just watch one of byf’s lore videos instead…

When this place and Reddit realize they are in an echo chamber the better you will sleep at night. A minor fraction of the playerbase comes here to complain. I have 5 friends that play this game and the only reason they ever know if something gets nerfed or buffed is because I tell them cause I read the notes. They all buy cosmetics and they all buy the expensive expansions for them and their kids. Why? Because it's a damn game. Get off your high horse and find another game

It’s bigger and it’s either going to get bigger or smaller it’s on bungie. They don’t care about a few hundred players they will lose some of you right ? Than release some content for free to collect new players and new players who don’t know about old things won’t care and will replace you. As long as they stay in the top 10 most played do you think they care ? It’s a corporate company it’s about money not your happiness. It's not shocking, it's the norm with this business to lie to you guys. What's worse is knowing that there are a lot of players that believe this lie. I have never seen any business go out of their way as much as this one has to lie to their fans. Mind you, they abandon this forum months before they did this. Look at the date and show me where they have been claiming they did this for the fans. Since they were always a private non public company, no one externally really knows how much they're spending or bringing in. They were bought for x billion, but unknown how much of that was to cover underlying debt. I'm sure they're doing decently well... But 800+ employees isn't cheap as well as server and office costs. Anyway I stopped playing cause we know most resources are going to other ip and I got bored with the seasonal model after 4 or 5 years of grinding.

Bungie has a lot of money but not for Destiny 2, which can be expected for an old game with a declining population. They are just going to spend enough on the game to keep the lights on at this point. It's something people are going to have to come to terms with. Nobody is thrilled with it, but it is what it is.

If you are going to say you are not a pvp player you should probably be asking yourself how the pvp got here more than anyone else should be. The game didn't get a ton of pvp stuff because it was free and it got other things instead. Things that people who don't play pvp wanted instead. The fact that so many people that don't or barely play pvp are now mad about the lack of pvp is one of the problems with not having just truly let it stay a side mode that only a small portion of the playerbase could even do, apparently.

Yeah maybe Bungie should stop trying to make games and go back to what they do best, game mechanics. It’s obvious that their hearts are not in it, they feel it’s too hard and the community asks too much of them for their free to play ( no it’s not ) game. Time to go into another line of work. Perhaps , used car sales or being a loan shark maybe even a casino as they have a talent for predatory gambling tactics ( RNG ).
