Just get good at the game mode? Using your brain for once is not much of a challenge.

Rift does nothing but promote the very thing Bungie swore to rectify since D1. -blam!- holding and camping. Rift should be it's own playlist plain and simple. There is nothing competitive about ability spamming and holding what is obviously tiny pee pees. If they were big they wouldn't need to play up their teammates -blam!-. TBH, competitive didn't need to change from survival. The only thing they needed to focus on was balanced matchmaking. No one ever complained about the game format. Bungie needs to stop focusing on fixing things that aren't really broken.

You are delusional. You think no one complains about the "game format" yet people have been doing that since years on the forums here. If you can't stand team-focused tactical game modes that reward brain over mobility, that's your call to avoid it. Not cry for changes because you are not good at something.

You're delusional to assume that because people dislike a game mode, they are automatically bad it. The majority of the posts that were negative towards the survival mode were oblivious to the matchmaking being their issue. I've been reading the forums since d1, and in most cases, the person faulting the mode usually flipped after reading comments from others, agreeing it may not be so bad if the matchmaking were more balanced. ALL of the game modes, with the exception of rumble, are team based. So your argument about playing smart and working as a team isn't exactly a special tactic specific to rift. The difference is, rift promotes the camping and ability spamming that bungie claimed they would work to lessen by making changes to supers, abilities, and weapon balancing. Two seasons ago, before adding rift and showdown things were actually pretty good. Yes, the matchmaking wasn't flawless, but it was moving in the right direction. It seems to me thr smart move for bungie would be to offer two competitive games modes with their own matchmaking. I'm sick of only getting rift on certain maps even though the map and mode rotations are supposed to be random (i.e. I have yet to see showdown or survival on convergence).

That's where the "regular" team play differs from Rift team play. 2. Rift IS good when you play with a pre-made team. 3. If you go into competitive solo and get Rift and lose, you shouldn't blame anyone but yourself for your gradually worse chances to win, because you intentionally went into that competitive playlist without communication and players you can rely on by playing solo. 4. Rift promotes SLOWER gameplay, not actively camping and ability spam. Ability spam is no more different than in regular crucible, just used smarter. Camping is the casuals definition of "playing slow and tactical" in comparison to the other extreme "play aggressive like a monkey". 5. Countdown was a game mode that was also pretty good with the right players in a fireteam, yet people complained til it got removed, simply because they couldn't adapt their social interaction and team play accordingly to the mode to actually have fun.

That defeats the purpose of having the solo playlist. If it's there, it should be playable

It is playable. Just not as easy to win as playing with a team using voice chat for communication.
