Pros Of AE: 1. New way to differentiate Exotic armors and weapons without changing "base" values (certain Exotic weapons can now be used in the air, Stompees nerf, Peacekeepers buff) 2. Indirect nerf to HCs, Hunters, "Ape" playstyle (all were dominant at the time) 3. Allows us to specialize in AE (Weapons with high AE are more accurate than weapons before the introduction of AE) Cons Of AE: A. Introduces RNG when shooting weapons with a low AE stat B. Few realistic ways to build into the stat Conclusion: Bungie should keep the changes, but offer us additional ways to spec into AE.

  • I think there are implied cons that you missed, such as slowing down the game and making the meta become what it is, but I agree with the conclusion. It wouldnt be as bad if you could actually spec into it, perhaps make mobility correlate some way to AE or add armour mods for AE so that theres a tradeoff. Thats how I thought it was going to be when the changes were announced so I praised them at first but theres no "building into it" at all.

  • I think the stat may have gone too oppressive the other way. Not that I jumped around all the time, but on occasion. Where the problem is currently no matter how much you build into it a weapon will never feel like it did before. I like that different weapon type have different AE values making it more of a tactical decision. If you know you’re gonna need to take to the air more, pick at least one weapon that performs better in the air. They could make AE a bit more dynamic, where it ramps up and settles based on hang time. So a single jump doesn’t reduce accuracy as much as a double jump, but the longer you’re in the air the more the accuracy settles to reduce the RNG of your shot. It puts AE on a bell curve when taking to the air. Where your AE stat dips each time you hit jump, and is at its lowest right after you hit your double (or triple) jump. And exotics that keep you in the air longer have greater benefit as you may be able to reach ground levels of accuracy and for longer.

  • Every single shooter I've played your COF (cone of fire) increases to some extent or the other when you're jumping around. Only on D2 was this absurdity allowed to continue for so long apparently. The best compromise clearly is to restore hard SBMM to PVP and then revert the AE changes. But the sweats will never go along with that. Isn't that interesting?

  • I can’t say I’ve played any other game that lets you teleport, go invisible, fly, dive from the air, lets you preform an action unique to sliding, throw flaming swords, make a nigh impenetrable dome, has a hit-scan weapon that insta-kills anyone near you. You get the idea. This game has too much movement for shooting in the air to not be a viable option. You’re better off being in the air while playing COD rather than in Destiny

    Oh I'm all for the "space magic" argument except the very people who hate the AE change are the same ones trying to get "abilities" nerfed to hell and back and are always claiming gunplay is dead. So F em I guess. You can't pick and choose. It's either realism or magic.

  • That is actually correct, the cone should be wider while jumping, but AE works differently. Even if the cone is wider, if I correctly aim someone I should be able to hit him. AE makes your shots totally random, you can aim perfectly but you aren't still able to hit, is totally RNG. And ok, there are things to build AE, but still you don't hit your shots in air. Knowing how bungie is actually bad at fixing thing, removing it is the fastest and better solution. They can keep SBMM i don't mind, but don't limit the skill of people(and the possibility for people to improve learning things like jumshots or sliding shots), and mostly don't limit the fun that this game can give us.

  • Um what other arena shooters have you played like that? In jetpack cod, which is the most comparable to destiny, aerial space played a huge role in engagements and guns had pretty much perfect accuracy in air. Even in non jetpack cods you are accurate, thats why jumpshotting is popular. And what other fps arena shooters are there, halo? Which also has perfect in air? Dont say counter strike or R6. Not fast paced, movement heavy arena shooters so they are apples to oranges with destiny.

  • Any game where youre on a small, usually multi-elevationed map, the movement is fast paced and "arcade-y", and most modes are respawn based with simple objectives like controlling zones or just out slaying is generally considered an arena shooter as opposed to a tactical shooter

    Unfortunately the last thing you said in the is the main problem, right now is a mechanic that forces u to stay at the spawn for the entire match, building around a stat makes the game even more complex(not in terms of skill) just to play a few matches in PVP. Yes, they give a lot of exotics AE increase when you use it, but are exotic that are not worth using in pvp just for 10AE with a specific weapon or in a specific situation, and mostly because the rest of the exotic perk is for PVE or simply useless in PVP, in fact most used exotic in are still Calp for hunters and Dunemarchers for titans. Not hitting in air is just a useless nerf(energy or primary weapons), why my shot should go randomly if I'm aiming a spot only because I am in air? Exotic weapons still have the same problem, the mod just does something different, but you still can't put it in exotics.
