I don't have a well thought out post, but echoing the sentiment around these forums, there's something that has been bothering me. Bungie justified adding microtransactions in Destiny 1 by saying they were used to fund the "live team", and we got SRL, April Update and some minor stuff which was lovely. The purchases were also inoffensive - just emotes.
Now, we get two broken halloween events that are supposed to be paid for by mtx, but, we can't really see where the money went. And they added event passed. Secret missions were said to be funded by mtx, but it's been years. While the base game expansions have a limit to how much they can rake in, Eververse is an endless source of income, and more or less the only thing in the game that is never broken (well, apart from bright engrams giving duplicates for the past few months).
We are way past the line of needing to break even, way into extra income that doesn't feel like it's going back into the game. Said monetisation is also negatively affecting game design on a fundamental level. The wonderful game about earning and collecting loot now feels like a glorified mobile game skinnerbox. Vault of Glass' re-release sold raid shaders for real money, and you can't get them for, you know, doing Vault of Glass?
I don't have solutions or nuanced points with this, just wanted to shout in to the void.

3 RespuestasIn my opinion, this was a lie from day 1 when they said it.

3 RespuestasBungie has massively expanded, become independent (and just recently bought out), bought out the rights to D2, built new HQ, expanded thier current HQ all off of Eververse. D2 is the only real imcome they had a for a while, aside from the odd injection here and there for side projects like the one with tencent, and the company has never been more 'sucessfull' Bungie don't release much in the way of figures but I've seen a few industry experts take a stab at what Bungie makes and even if they are only half way right, it's a sickening amount. That's where your MTX goes. Not into new content. Not into game upgrades.
-
I feel bad for those this is not obvious to. They're not the only devs, but it's getting old. Won't change until enough people roll out on these models.

1 RespuestaOne of the first of many lies
-
If they were used to actually fund live content the game would flourish. No. The money we give them is used up elsewhere, meanwhile the game is literally dying.
just wanted to shout in to the void
People like us, who see the game for what its worth and want to see things changed for the better are often met with hostility on the platform but don't worry, you aren't alone. The forums are an echo chamber for Bungie cultists, at least we can laugh at them
-
Yup nothing but lying 🤡
-
I would rather Bungie take the mtx out of the game and place all the items in activities to be earned, while doing away with the rinse and repeat events that they're supposed to fund. Just me though. I don't buy mtx anymore. Not that I ever bought many to begin with, but especially since Bungie went with the whole "free to play but not really because it's $100+ every year to get all the story" business model.
-
they never were it is all just decision from the owners about how much they want to provide player value vs how much do they want to continually increase profit margins game has always been plenty profitable just corporate gouging and deflection that's like buying that inflation isn't connected to 70 year high corporate profits
-
It clearly does pay for live events. Just last week the dev team were spotted at one of watering holes with the poles and live dancers and they were throwing money at the stage.

14 RespuestasRemember them saying Whisper of the worm ornaments paid for Zero Hour. I don't know what eververse pays now but I don't see it in game.
-
At least they made an effort to lie Don't even remember what they said about Dungeon keys and event cards
-
Yeah, it’s just that the live content is going to be in Matter or something else. Not D2.
-
3 RespuestasWhat's interesting is looking back at how the D1 wasn't built around the shop and we were able to acquire most of the items simply by playing the game. D2 the game was built around the shop, and since D1 the number of players that buy cosmetics has tripled and no Activision to take any of that money either. Bungie makes decent money, but how they manage it is another story.

2 RespuestasEditado por Scratch: 11/14/2022 10:23:55 PMThat was just to get you used to the idea of MX Their 'foot in the door' Kinda like televangelists telling you to send in your 'seed' money, and god will give it back ten-fold in return. The bigger the seed, the greater the bounty you will reap 😉 Gospel according to Luke-"Ye shall throw thy money at the screen, and ye shall be rewarded. In the name of Bun-gie" 🤔 Tried warnin y'all, only to get 'Don't gimme that slippery slope bullXhit, ya moron' We, as a community, had our chance to stop this as long as.... Ooooooh, emotes...take my money ...wait,...what was I saying? Oh, yeah, Dances! I shouldn't.... It's over priced.... I know [b]"[i][u]rhythmic physical expressions won't win a fight, but they feel good. I always took that with a pinch of salt.

3 RespuestasThe void has acknowledged your shout. The void will proceed to consume this shout, as it has with all the other shouts, for that is all what the void consists of to exist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Specifics micro transactions did Not the whole store The store was always to support the game itself It was 2 special ornament that did that And I'm pretty sure the free sections of events are paid from the paid parts like how the 39th anniversary was mostly free but paid thanks for the paid pack
-
Did they put new ornaments in the shop? I need several seeing Starfire Protocol and Wings of Sacred Dawn look awful but are great exotics. If they look cool I’ll pay double.
-
Did they specifically say to fund secret missions or for dlcs?

5 RespuestasEditado por $hirtless Captain Kirk: 11/14/2022 3:00:05 AMFree reprised raids...that nobody ever says no too and asks for. People ask for recycling all the time and then get mad when they use dev time for it.

1 RespuestaIt did, they hiring all kinds of people to work on the next game

Editado por Mark, Scholar of Stars: 11/14/2022 5:10:19 PMIt's all irrelevant. All "you" need is a SLA who covers your actions. I'm not against Bungie, they only make video games - that's nothing really essential... but it's a good thing that people start to realize how bad they construct their communications.

1 RespuestaEditado por xbroggiex: 11/14/2022 1:13:58 AMGotta consider that they are working on seasons, expansions, dungeons, raids and events all at the same time. While D1 had a sizeable april update that was because there was no other Destiny development going on besides events and the annual expansion and D2 I guess. I think its more that the MTs are just to keep the game running and afford some free content like reprised/updated raids, seasonal events and other QoL updates. Also, about the whole Whisper ornaments affording Zero Hour I think they said that but didn't mean that it would be a constant thing that the ornaments would afford future secret missions. Also, lest we forget the hordes of people complaining about not being able to beat the timer or complaining about having play at certain times to do a secret mission and we now get more watered down exotic / "secret" missions.

Yeah, righ. 😅
