Warlock solar 3.0 first impressions. (Updated)

Not gonna lie, so far underwhelming. The sacrificed warlocks healing flexibility for all classes to have a healing assest of some sort. The ability to switch between using a nade fo healing or damage was extremely good. Not to mention the healing grenades themselves arent nearly as good as old warlock heal nades. Phoenix dive cooldown is ridiculous and the skill itself should be doing way more, in pvp I guess its a decent movement tool but only when its paired with icarus. The animation lock when it lands really holds it back for pvp. The fragments and aspects as a whole in pvp are just lacking it feels. Yea I can make stuff work with just the mobility from icarus, but the rest is just very lackluster. Ignite is almost impossible to get, and it feels like the only thing I can go for properly is a floaty.....healing....dashing build type thing. Idk, just kind of feels like we lost way more than we gained, there needs to be more synchronization for pvp. (Update) Sooo yea I'm not feeling this at all. They focused way too much on top tree and my playstyle even in pve has barely changed. The only real viable exotic is sunbracers and maybe dawn chorus but the roaming super sucks now. I dont understand the vision they were going for honestly, it feels like warlocks shouldve had 2 more aspects to choose from. Phoenix dive needs to be merged with icarus dash aspect, it's way too weak to be used by itself. Ignite is decent in pve, but almost impossible to proc in pvp which eliminates an entire playstyle that we used to have. Which means warlocks lost bottom tree and middle tree and gained what exactly? It needs to be redesigned or have aspects added to it. On a positive note, I do like the fact that they classes seem to have more individuality now, the void 3.0 kind of felt samey to me.

  • I’ve been having a lot of fun with Sunbracers and the new grenade aspect. There’s a lot that also makes getting the melee back easy, like the burn melee recharge fragment and the heat rises aspect. Everything goes boom.

    • The solar rework is only an improvement if you only ever used top tree Dawnblade, Used either of the other two subclasses and you got screwed

        well I think they had no vision. They were thinking that ppl play warlocks a bit too much and only 60% ppl play hunters, so they tryed to fix it... And yea, I wanted to try to make support warlock, but its impossible since benevolent dawn was removed. Phoenix dive should have way shorter CD while providing dmg explosion+heal to make it somewhat useful (not 1hit kill explosion, just spread a fire). Sunbracers looks like good option, but its pretty useless in NF as ur melee deals nearly no dmg. rifts doesnt apply radiant/cure so umm yea... Splitting top solar lock into 2 aspects is dumb move, removing middle solar spec is bad move also. So I guess they rly wanted ppl to play less warlock and play something else. Also tracking on knife barrage on hunter is what? Some1 had too much cocaine? :D Try it at riven, those knifes turn 90° like nothing

          • Probably a Unpopular opinion As well as a strange thing to come from a hunter main,But I kinda miss warlocks Self rez To me when a warlock self revived it felt like it gave the team a fighting chance Especially in raids

            • Only gripes I have is Phoenix Dive should be in the heat rises aspect and enemies affected but scorch should ignite on death, too many things die before the ignition can even detonate making some fragments close to pointless.

                      So far I've only played with Dawn Chorus Warlock and unless you build into the right fragments the super won't feel that great. The Dawn Chorus neutral game feels good with the ignition damage. By itself the Daybreak is okay, but without a way to extend the duration of the super, it certainly feels underwhelming in PvE. Phoenix Dive seems like an fine class ability on first glance. Rift does seem like the better ability though. Without Phoenix Dive equipped it's impossible to dive with the super, which is weird. So now you have to build into the dive to use it more. It definitely needs to be looked at, I feel like the cooldown should be shorter. I have no doubt Sunbracers is great. The two exotics I'm curious about are Starfire Protocol and Promethium Spur (whenever the final fragments are unlocked). Next I'm going to try Wings of Sacred Dawn and see how the in-air effectiveness feels. Hopefully more fragments are on the way, I'm expecting them by season 19.

                    • Glad you warlocks get it as a class ability, it would have been too broken as a aspect in pvp, all the spamming of that crap after a icarus dodge is too much

                        • It wouldn’t be so bad if there was a way to activate the parts they took from the other two more easily. Haven’t tested out fragment ember of benevolence yet, but that’s on tap for today. Warlock would have a lot more going for it if it had one more thing added to an aspect: defeating scorched targets causes them to ignite. Having a simple path to chain incendiary explosions would help bring back that bottom tree Solar feel more, and half the issue is getting scorch to activate against non-boss-level enemies. Since Ignition detonations scorch enemies is already a fragment. I’d suggest putting It in Touch of Flame as an additional effect. That alone would go such a long way.

                        • If it's class item it should have the Burn AoE and Heal AS DEFAULT. It should pretty much have been what it did in the Super as default. I'm not waiting an entire Rift cooldown just to dive for less than 1 second.

                        • Top tree and middle tree dawn have been the best pvp and pve subclass nodes across the whole game since they were introduced if you thought they where gunna get better your crazy personaly I wish they leaned Into well more instead of top tree dawn but either way this is them reigning the class in Thb with the tools they have they will likely still be the top performing pvp class your still the fastest class with the best healing options in the game your newexotic will make icarus dodge give you reload and potential for bonus damage with a veeeeeeeeery nice cooldown makes the hunter dodge look downright weak across all there subclasses And as for pve well will still be well it's always gunna needed or wanted in high end content and damage phases it just won't be easy mode anymore I mean it makes you invincible and boost your damage it trivializes almost all content in the game The subclass still feels effective just not better than everything else in the game it's prob still top 3 if not still number 1 but I feel for you man It sucks losing content especially when it makes the game feel worse for you sorry my dude

                          • Agreed. Too much top tree dawnblade with 3.0 solar warlocks. No one is going to want to float in the air in a GM! The removed everything that made bottom tree dawnblade’s rework in season of the lost special. Maybe if they added a different aspect that was more burn related.

                            After playing Solar Warlock for so long, running bottom tree with Dawn Chorus, this 3.0 update is a hard nerf. Phoenix Dive needs to be integrated with either Icarus Dash or Heat Rises. It has no place as a Rift replacement. The loss of the healing grenade also blows. It needs to return as a function to the Touch of Flame Aspect and be a held charge again and to NOT be restricted but that this charged version can be done with ANY grenade like the original. Furthermore make this the original grenade that provides a full heal and overshield. I will say that the majority of the fragments are fine the way they are besides the Ember of Benevolence. This fragment may need a slight buff to make the -10 Discipline worth the cost. Edit: I'm going to add a little bit more about the Ember of Benevolence for I feel I was rather vague. You cannot even proc this fragment with healing rifts anymore. This is also unfortunately the same to the healing effects with both Boots of the Assembler and Lumina. Not only is this Fragment difficult to upkeep but also to simply activate. This issue kills the capability of a "Healer" class as Bungie themselves have said. The Fragment provides a nerfed effect to a difficult to activate passive with a penalty to Discipline stamped on it. I emphasise "difficult to activate" on a team-wide scale.
