When you claim a color as your favorite, you aren’t just displaying your preference for one particular color. You are making it YOUR color. Oh what color do I buy this sweater in? MY color. It stands as one of the columns that build the temple of my personality. But how do you choose? Nice try fungus bungus, you don’t. The color seeps into the back of your skull and corrupts your mind. You won’t even notice how much you like it until it dominates your wardrobe, clutters your desk, decorates your walls. It shouldn’t be a conscious thought, but a later revelation. An example is in order. Around 12 favorite colors became a stupid thing that kids do. I would not be defined by a single color and therefore embrace them all. Except pink because who needs that noise. Two or three years later, I was conducting one of my typical interviews with my little siblings where I ask them every kind of question they can possibly answer. Why do you think it takes so long for trees to grow but so quick for our tomatoes? What’s the strongest dinosaur? What kind of ice cream tastes the worst? What’s your favorite color? As per usual, they sat their rattling off answers and firing my questions back at me. I couldn’t tell them what my favorite color was, so I asked what they thought it should be. “Well, you wear a lot of yellow.” Gotdam I totally do. 3 dresses, 4 tshirts, 5 button downs, 1 pair of pants, 2 pairs of shoes, 3 hoodies, 1 giant ridiculous beanie. I wear quite a bit of yellow. But everything I surround myself with seems to wear yellow too. The vases on my shelf, the pins on my guitar case, my own paintings on the wall. My wardrobe and decor mixes several carefully selected colors, but distinctly favors yellow. Even my gotdam pfp on this awful site is yellow. I now know to look for yellow. It looks great on me, it evokes a sense of peace and vibrant serotonin, it feels like a living color. So now I spread the gospel of favorite colors. You need one, and you already have one. Unless you’re the most boring person alive who doesn’t put any effort into their appearance or room because mommy picks it out. Get some individuality you scrub.
